Evolution or God

We were having a discussion in the office yesterday regarding the attitudes in the 70's and 80's, particularly around smoking and inappropriate sexual conduct - basically all the things that appeared "normal" or was just tolerated despite the knowledge that it shouldn't be. The question was asked; what will our children or grandchildren be putting forward as examples of this in years to come.

Religion, that's what.

Anyway, the OP question is absurd because evolution is a demonstrable fact; Religion isn't. They are not comparable in any way, you might as well ask us to choose between religion and shoe laces.

More seriously, possibly the damage done to people's health by petrol/diesel cars in urban areas?

Personally I would find that very odd, but then I was raised with no religion and am a skeptic about everything, so I’d want to know what I believed was true. If I was brought up surrounded by it and indoctrinated from birth, I don’t know how I would have turned out.
 
This quote stuck with me. Think it was a little tongue in cheek but its correct

Science adjusts its views based on what's observed. Faith is the denial of observation so that belief can be preserved

I get that. Not everyone is the same and we're all a product of our environment.
Personally, I consider myself extremely lucky in terms of how I was brought up and the (huge) family I have and I put a lot of it down to being raised Catholic.
 
Violent, irrational, intolerant, allied to racism and tribalism and bigotry, invested in ignorance and hostile to free inquiry. Contemptuous to women and coercive towards children. Organised religion ought to have a great deal on it's conscience.

It depends what religion you ask but the one i briefly studied with would answer something like this :

I forget the fine details but the outline i remember is that Satan was created by God and Satan was cast out of heaven ( forget why ) and left to rule over earth for however many years to prove a point that Satan was right and God was wrong ( that man should know good and bad or something like that )

So in short everything happening now is because God is doing F all on purpose, yes God is there but left Satan to do this to prove a point lol.

That is why i stopped the sessions with them, it was all laughable and complete made up stuff from start to finish.
 
In the Bible, Satan has killed no-one but he's the bad guy. It's the other chap who loves a bit of genocide. This chap watches you masturbate, judging you. It is just made up and dangerous and harmful nonsense. Stuff like female circumcision and male as well, is a barbaric practice with a very specific goal for the victim. So many woman who have their private parts mutilated often using broken glass, cannot even pass urine without intense pain.
