Fallout: New Vegas

Hey folks!

So I've been reading through this thread and generally researching things and I just want to run a few things by you before I go ahead... I've owned Fallout NV for ages with the first 3 bits of DLC, and just recently picked up the final DLC and the Gun Runners Arsenal pack (so I believe my version is now the same as "Ultimate")

I've done one partial playthrough a while ago now, I did a fair chunk of the main story (couldn't tell you exactly how far but I certainly made it to the strip) and played totally through Dead Money plus about half of Honest Hearts, at which point I sort of lost interest (not completely the games fault, think I just got distracted by other things etc)...

But this thread has inspired me to give it a go installing some mods and start a new playthrough - problem is like many in the thread I'm trying to settle on what mods I should install. I've watched that Gopher guy's youtube videos and definitely like the mods he showed in there, plus a few others I've seen in here... I think I want to more or less preserve the actual original game as much as possible (as I've not played the whole story to the end yet!) but I could tolerate things which add extra sidequests, and I'm not looking for mods which give me ridiculous amounts of extra stats + perks and stuff as I don't want it to make the game any easier (I didn't find it too tough when I played before anyway)...

So here's the list of what I intend to go for, with comments, any suggestions or comments would be really helpful:

### Based on what I remember of Gopher's Videos ###
-DarnUI
-One HUD
-Mod Configuration Manager
-Project Nevada
-NMC Texture Pack (maybe medium, not sure)
-Poco Bueno Textures (applied on top of NMC)
-Nevada Skies (in the vids I liked the 0.63 very dark nights type one)
-Electric City (to go with the above mod)
-The 3 visual effect mods (Dynavision, Cinimator and Imaginator or something?)
-There was a weapon mod pack like WMX or WME, not sure about those?
-Some sort of shader mod, I can't remember the name but it looked good to me (added stuff like AO and more realistic looking lighting)

### Others ###
-I've heard a lot of talk about NVEC, but I can't tell how big of a change to the game it is (and is it compatible with Project Nevada?)
-Mission Mojave... It presents itself like a pretty essential set of bugfixes, is it worth getting or is it integrated into Project Nevada or similar?
-EVE... A lot of people seem to recommend it, but is it worth having with the other things I've listed?
-Dracomies "FNV Redesigned 2", which seems to make a lot of the NPC's weird looking faces a bit better - I couldn't tell if this was an old mod that might have been superceded by something better and more recent?

That's about it so far... but I'd welcome any other suggestions :)

Dont know much abouds mods sadly. I've been playing the game without any mods at all in fact. Could use a bit of advice of my own though...

So I've almost got to the end of the main story. Wiped out the Brotherhood of Steel bunker and didn't get offered the quest to save the NCR leader, so all I need to do now is plant the device to divert power from the dam. But before I do that I want to start doing the DLC. What kind of skills will I need to do Dead Money? I'm level 31, so a lot of my skills are pretty high, but some like sneak and unarmed are still petty low

So I started having a go at modding the game at the weekend... not done a lot so far:

- NVSE + 4Gb address launcher
- Darnified UI
- Mod Configuration Menu
- One HUD
- Unified HUD project

So pretty much what Gopher covered in his first video... I like it so far but the next thing he suggests installing is Project Nevada - but should I install some of the other fixes from the nexus first? I'm thinking of Mission Mojave in particular, but do I need that as well? (I was wondering if maybe the reason Gopher doesn't mention it is that it is somehow included in Project Nevada)

So I've been doing Dead Money. Quite a good bit of DLC. Those Ghost People are creepy as hell! Think I'm practically at the end now though.

Dog/God is still alive, with a merged personality. So is Christine. I couldn't prevent Domino from attacking me no matter how many times I tried to talk him down. I made my way down to the vault and now have all the goooold! But obviously the point is to "let it go". But is there a way to get out of the vault without leaving all the gold behind? I mean I have 64k caps, so its not like I need the money, but I want to take it all so I can lug it back to The Lucky 38 and stack it all in my bedroom. There must be a way!

Never mind. It took a number of attempts to sneak past Elijah before the forcefield came on, but I did it :D

LOL I don't want to open the spoiler but that looks interesting :p

Think I'm going to start a new save soon if I can get round to it, probably focus on lasers and guns rather than stealth!

My auto save wont load :( just stays on loading screen for ever. Is that it am I done? Not sure I can be bothered starting yet again, was enjoying it as well :(

Whats the quest lines a new player should start off on ?

Bought this in the steam summer sale and don't know where to begin. I have the DLC'S but you have to be of a decent level in order to do them.

Mine sometimes does that as well. I find that closing the game down and restarting it usually works.

But dont you save manually? Or at least quicksave? I at least quicksave constantly. When I played Fallout 3 my game was prone to crashing to the desktop completely at random, even after a good tip I followed that drastically reduced the amount of times it happened, so I saved like every 5 minutes to avoid losing progress.

Dont think about doing any of the DLCs until your at least level 20! You'll need higher skills than what you start with to have a hope in doing those successfully.

When you start you should get a quest from the doctor guy about the guy who shot you and stole the platinum chip from you. Its probably a good idea to do some quests for the people of Goodsprings to get you familar with the game. Then you can head out and follow the main story.

What I usually do when a save fails is start a new game, then manually load that save whilst im in a 'different' game. Usually works.
I would be worried in your case that it might save over the autosave, since I've always kept a minimum of 3 rotating saves I've never had that issue - have you got any other saves you could load first, then load your auto from within that game? Good luck fella :(

Can't do that as a new game over writes the auto save. Restarting the game (I have to restart comp as can't do anything, can't even alt-tab to windows) and still doesn't work.

Wouldn't loading another save overwrite the auto save. I do have one manual save from my last game.
