Far Cry 4 due this November

I've got a really old system, but I've gone from low all the way up to ultra settings and it seems to make no difference. It runs the same on all. Playable, but not smooth.

Finally finished this tonight. Managed to sort the shadow glitch that returned in the north part of the map, blitz the last few outposts and fire through the final missions.

Overall I'm very happy with the game but don't think I could score it at better than a 7/10 until the issues are resolved.

Minus points for:

1. Stuttering (no more words needed, 99% of people have experienced this)
2. SLI - dreadful!! Ran on Nvidia settings at a good solid framerate but never felt smooth, plus the dark shadow problem.
3. More of the same. Could have been Far Cry 3.5 as people have already pointed out. Also way too many animal attacks.

Other than that though, thoroughly enjoyable for the most part. The free roaming aspect remains the best thing about the game.

I dropped my system from 1920x1200 to 1260x900 or whatever the next one down is thinking it would help. I barely noticed a difference! :o:confused:

Mines been running well on old system with Q6600 & GTX580 settings at mostly high several medium, shadows low & with only very minor stuttering at high speed car driving. Upgraded to a GTX980 & ramped all my settings up to maximum & everything looks much prettier but with same minor stuttering.

I loaded AC4 Black flag to show someone a sea battle & it ran like a dog & started stuttering  so i went back to FC4 & it ran like a dog as well, really bad & for the first time for me it was totally unplayable

I started looking at everything & discovered my memory showed as 6GB - 2 usable although checks showed the memory was o.k but seemingly windows didn't want to use most of it, I found a fix on the net where you type msconfig & then select boot, advanced options -maximum memory & there I discovered it said just 2GB  I altered it & restarted & FC4 ran superbly. How this setting altered to 2GB I can't imagine

I enjoyed FC1, skipped FC2, and bought both 3 and 4, personally I think 3 had a better story, at the moment, I like 4, the helicopter is a nice addition, but as someone said above, it's more of the same, go here, kill him, go here, find treasure, kill this animal, repeat

You running a 980 with a Q6600 Usher? What res are you playing at out of interest?

playing at 1920X1080,
the 580 was the worlds fastest card when I originally bought it 2or3 years ago & it & it played every game very well until Wolfenstein new order & it stuttered for the first time

now playing FC4 with MSI 980 & with most settings at ultimate except I lowered shadows to high to suit my taste

So I did some benchmarks with Fraps. Its clearly CPU, RAM, or somthing else limited, and not graphics. The difference between everything on and everything off is negligable, to the extent I can't tell. Its all not very smooth.

Code:
nVidia [COLOR="Red"]Avg: 26.100[/COLOR]	[COLOR="red"]Min: 18[/COLOR] [COLOR="Red"]Max: 34[/COLOR]
Ultra Avg: 26.371	Min: 19 [COLOR="Lime"]Max: 75[/COLOR]
Very High	Avg: 30.116	Min: 20 Max: 50
High Avg: 29.940	Min: 21 Max: 46
Medium Avg: 32.384	Min: 22 Max: 53
Low [COLOR="lime"]Avg: 35.058[/COLOR]	[COLOR="Lime"]Min: 24[/COLOR] Max: 60

Going by this, I think I'm going to bosh it on Very High and leave it.

I'd advise taking great care when changing this option (and the option next to it to do with the number of CPU cores) as it can mess up your computer/windows settings and cause it to go into an endless restart loop or BSOD. You cannot even get into Safe Mode so the only option is a restore or last known config from the command prompt or recovery console.

My understanding is that the options (cpu cores and memory) should NOT be ticked and left greyed out. This defaults windows to use max cores and max memory. Entering your own number could screw it up. These options are only meant for debugging purposes. I'd advise anyone that has these options ticked, eg enabled then untick them so they are greyed out and let windows control it.

If it keeps resetting to a ticked box and a figure after a restart then there is a software/setup issue that is telling windows max cores or max memory cannot be used. Eg, a bios setting is incorrect.

Going by my system spec and how badly it runs I would say it's not a problem with CPU, RAM or GPU. It's just poor programming.

Jay794 (it's more of the same, go here, kill him, go here, find treasure, kill this animal, repeat) It is a bit like real life do you not think. (Wake up fight your way to work, Half kill yourself trying to do the job or some one else, then fight your way back home and then back to bed again. Repeat. :D

I get a pretty constant 60fps in this game with textures at very high, and high all other options but Trees relieve off @ 1080p. only when driving do i get the occasional dip into the 30's

I did find that performance was more consistent with hyperthreading disabled or when i set the affinity for the farcry process to the physical cores

5820k @4ghz
16gb ddr4 @2400 (tight timings)
290x gigabyte oc card
Latest ati beta drivers made a massive difference to stuttering with Aa enabled
Windows 8.1
Crucial mx100 ssd

this game is quite good now, much easier than 3 days ago....the Buzzsaw is amazing it kills everything instantly, but it has probably made the game too easy..

poor coding? this game is very similar to the 1st Crysis, juddery and jerky, but it looks better than Crysis because the grass, trees, shrubs look far better, better movement due to the wind and better texturing as well.

Interesting thought, I like it
