Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn

i don't think server makes a difference to pc/ps3. i'm on Odin i like the fact i can play on the pc then log of and log back on same char on the ps3.

ps3 is great for bimbling around or even questing, not sure i would like to do dungeons on it though as targeting could do with a bit of improvement for controller imho, also I definitely need to pick up a keyboard for ps3 as trying to use chat is a pain on the controller.

The servers are shared between PC and PS3 so there isn't a "best" one. I have noticed many English speaking EU people are flocking to the Moogle server. There is no fixed end to beta so far as I can tell, we're in phase 3 at the moment and we have another phase to go. However it can't be that long because the game comes out in 2 months time.
if i was to guess i would expect the next 2 weekends to be part of beta phase 3 as i read somewhere about beta phase 3 tests 1-4. Then onto beta phase 4 where they are not wiping the chars into release as long as there are no problems

Compared to the PC how does it run? I keep hearing that it runs either very choppy and slow, and some people say it runs perfectly.

I never got a PS3 test code but I'm really interested in seeing how it performs as I'll be using that version when I'm not able to use the PC.

on my pc it seemed very smooth with everything on max at 1080p
on the ps3 it seemed nearly as smooth when it was using wired internet from what i remember, however using wifi there did seem to be a bit of lag sometimes and loading times seemed a bit longer (i am using a virgin media superhub and i don't normally play online games on ps3 when i'm using wifi)

to be perfectly honest i preferred to play it on the ps3, even over wifi.

I think during the next beta i will test 720p on the pc and also test how big a difference using the ps3 wired or over wifi makes.

Couple of questions which there may not be any answers for:

1) If i get a ps3 copy can i play it on pc too ? (didnt have v1.0)
2) same as above but will i need to re-buy for ps4?

I believe if you buy the ps3 version you would also have to buy the pc version and link them both to be able to play on either platform.

The ps3 to ps4 I'm not sure about I think I read something about been able to upgrade not sure if this will cost.

if anyone would like to try the beta out there are beta keys available on the computer and video game website :) the client is 28 mb and the download for game is around 5gb i believe.

I didn't realise it was lifted, i'll check the beta forums later. Also here's a spare code for someone to get onto the beta;

RBWE-WYMR-7SLE-SM87-8EL5

The NDA has indeed been lifted for various things. Beta P3 screens are allowed so here's just a few randoms screens, nothing exiting though.

Like I say a bit boring, but the detail whilst in game is excellent!

Everything is maxed in the screens @ 1920x1080 - i5 2500k @ 4.2 - 670GTX - Fps never seem to dip under 70's really pleased with the performance it's fluid and runs extremely well.

some nice screen shots there :) im not sure if it ff14 has been confirmed for ps4 but i would certainly pick it up if it looked similar to pc.

i have put a few hours into it tonight on ps3 i find the combat very good even with a pad the main thing i struggle with is typing in chat box and it not remembering what i have typed :( there was also a fair bit of lag but it ran smoother after 9pm.

does anyone know a rough price on the subscription for this ?

It has been confirmed for PS4 :)

I think the subscription starts at something like £7.69, but I think that's without character services added (like in the previous Final Fantasy MMOs).

Put a lot more time into this today, really enjoying the game. I wish I could post some screen as it looks absolutely incredible at maximum.

only thing you can't post is videos and no pictures from before beta phase 3

Hopefully they make the AA better so the flora etc gets properly anti aliased, maybe it will come with the dx11 engine they are bringing which they said will allow them to use higher res textures

I think the default is 8 characters per server now which is more than enough for anyone and you can switch jobs/classes on your character after you do the lvl 10 class quest anyway so multiple characters I can't see the point of it.
The LODESTONE will probably be extra like it was in everquest2, I don't recall ffxi having any lodestone website?.

I'm Struggling to force my self to level tbh right now. I'm sure that will change come the head start though when I know my progress won't be lost.
Hopefully there's a lot of grouping once you reach high enough levels for tam tara and after because I find solo boring.

Please tell me there are areas with group mobs that people farm in groups like the good old days. or is there only dungeon runs?

Chains are in so I guess there must be? and why don't goblins seem to drop coins or gil like in ffxi? :(
