Fire Thread! - Stoves, Wood, Axes, Chainsaws

Bought myself a saw horse to help with the processing of the twigs on the drive

Had a rummage through them and found a doner stump to transfer the Kindling Cracker to

Found myself a decent chopping log and whipped out the x27

Which given the size and moisture content of the logs was quickly swapped out for the maul .....

After two rounds I'm defo going to have to rethink the temporary storage solution

It’s when the log you’ve just sawn through falls and can drag the bar down with it that things can go pear shaped.

If I had that saw horse, I’d get some of that corrugated plastic trunking used for house wiring/plumbing to cover those horizontal bars.

I nearly got one of those saw horses, but then I found a Y-shaped log like you have in your pile and started using that to cradle logs at an angle and it's been working pretty well.

Decided to just keep that log as my mini saw horse to get the logs enough off the ground to chainsaw through them.

Nice! Suppose that would give me options on the bigger / heavier stuff

Yeah, it was very handy on the super fat or long pieces that won't easily fit into a saw horse, or ones that might screw your back up trying to life

Seemed counter intuitive, but bit the bullet ....

Cleared out the medium store

IMG20230128103637-01.jpg

Moved all the seasoned stuff from the big store to the medium store

Moved the few splits I've done into the large store

IMG20230128142154-01.jpg

Then relocated the bins and made room for any temp storage and likely new large store at some point ....

Weather permitting I'll start on processing the new stuff in ernest tomorrow

Got set up just before 9.00 this morning and fired up the chainsaw :D

Messy job this log chopping malarky ...

Fast forward 4ish hours .....

I think I'll leave splitting them to another day / weekend / series of weekends ....

There were a few obviously older absolutely sodden and starting to rot rogue chunks

IMG20230129123902-01.jpg

And two barrows of fresh woodchip / sawdust ..

IMG20230129124915-01.jpg

Old wood and sawdust were deposited in the "woodland area" and will act as mulch / bug hotels :D

I don't mind admitting, I am absolutely knackered !

Thanks and yes, it's a good size !

The room it's going into will take / need it. The vaulted ceiling at its highest point is almost 5.5m

CGI of the install

IMG-20220915-073850-01.jpg

It is expensive (around £2.5k for the stove alone) but has to be right as it's probably the most used room in the house :)

The reality it's too far from the CGI

FYI you're possibly aware but looks like your gutter is blocked/getting damp adjacent your water butt (or water butt full/overtopping?)

I like the new fire! If that's 2.5k Inc install that's great

It's a mix of the two. The gutter needs clearing out and the "overflow" attachment on the water but is broke.

I'm going to move the water butt and put a new solid length of down pipe in (and clear the guttering) :)
