No, no, no. I will be getting some dual core goodness now and I will be having a look at Conroe once it's been out a few weeks and people have had a chance to try it out in the real world - then I'll decide whether to get myself one or take advantage of probable AMD price cuts to build myself a couple of decent, cheap foldy machines to add to the farm :D

I think I may go for the P4, I fancy having a play with it and one can always live in hope that Stanford get the new QMDs sorted out :rolleyes:

Tell you what -
If I get my caravan sold, I will be buying another couple of high end rigs.

If and when I do, I will sign my last remaining single core machine over to your folding account (I won't give you the rig as it's my pr0n server :o). It's a 3500 Venice so should about quadruple your output :p

OK guys I need a new rig and I;m going to ask you rather that General Hardware because it will be folding as well as doing other stuff.

Currently I have

3Ghz Northy
1Gig RAM
IT7 Mobo
9800Pro

Thats my bloody noisy main rig

I would like to get another rig for an HTPC, this will need to be quiet and able to decode HD video, it doesn'y need to be fast it won't be used for games, I also don't want to spend much i.e. around £300ish. I don't need anything flash and the current rig will be a server and d/l box in another room. Needs to be of some use for folding too

any ideas?

Pd 805 is best value for folding, but no good for htpc because of the heat.

I would say X2 3800+ clocked up a bit.

Have you considered moving your current one to htpc role and getting a core 2 for a replacement?
 
Matblack wait until conroe, they will be v.cheap + v.cool +v.powerful you will be able to get one of the 32W conroes for under £100 this i think will be ideal for a HTPC machine and they are due out in under a month now

Yep sure does, not sure what's up with Billy this last couple of weeks though as I'm pulling him in like an express train.. should have him in the bag tomorrow unless he's got over 800 points to dump ( I should dump about 1200 tomorrow ).

tis aint it!!! well in 2 months time i shall be investing in a nice Core2 E6700 so hopefully will get some serious stompage done with the single computer lot! poor old 3.2 prescott just gotta last a little while longer! i can almost smell it burning itself to a crisp! :rolleyes:

Its a posibility might have to get a Matx to put the northy in but could reuse the case for a new pd805 based rig
