Forgot how bad job searching was :(

If I don't get an answer here will create own thread:

In regard to school qualifications.
Do you put the highest qualification acheived of a subject or do you list them each year you were awarded.
So if you took Graphic Communication up to Advance Higher (as an example) will you list it as:
School X - May 2006 - Graphic Communication - Advance Higher - A
School X - May 2005 - Graphic Communication - Higher - A
School X - May 2004 - Graphic Communication - Intermedia2 - A

Or would you just list it as one grade, ie
School X - May 2006 - Graphic Communication - Advance Higher - A

I suppose looking at the above example it looks messy with just on grade, and usually when I get to standard grades/int 2 I list it as "various awarded between grades 1 and 2."
But when there's more than just one grade, espeically one taken at avdanced level, it looks odd leaving just three higher grades.

For the english:
advance higher = A2 level
higher = AS level
int2/ standard grade = gsce.

And even more confusingly my school did a mixture of english and scottish.

I generally put the most important at the top if I am required to list them individually - starting with Maths, English and Science and then the rest, if the rest include something that is specific to the role, then that is at the top.

However, nowadays, the majority of CV's I have seen are 8 GCSE's above Grade C including Maths A, English A and Science A etc...

As for qualifications higher than GCSE's (or equivalent) I usually list them all, A Levels then AS etc.

Job searching is hateful. The most irritating thing is having to take on a job that is really menial and that I know I'm too good for. Not to sound like a complete **** and no offence meant to anyone who works in this type of job, but out of desperation for work I took on a call centre job a couple of months ago and absolutely hated it. I tried to stick with it for as long as I could, but I only managed to work there for about a month because it was so mind numbingly boring.

The only positive of the job was that at least I have experience of working in a call centre so I'll never be tempted to work in one again. I'm now back to the job search and looking for something more suited to my skills, but my word is it tough at the moment!
Im like that right now, ended up taking a retail job in a high street shop til xmas, sooo boring and way too easy/not challenging enough, counting down the weeks till I finish, never doing retail again!

Only thing saving me is reduced price food at the end of the day, 20% discount, and afternoon starts which means can spend any night of the week doing whatever I want til 6am

well seems iv tweaked my feet/legs worse than i thought so now waiting on seeing the specialist again see what they say. but in short it seems il have to give up the idea of being in a job where im on my feet a lot.

god only knows what jobs il be able to get now as to be blunt i aint exactly office material guess il just retire and call it a day at 34 years old, :/

In true my-kinda-luck style this job has messed me around. I interviewed for the above, for the technical role, I showed that I could do the technical role. Then for some reason they have no stuck me in customer support, which is what I don't want to do.

Looking for another job after less than a week here, the only saving grace is hearing how Overclockers 'rob' all the stock before anyone else can get it. OcUK is well hated where I work.

Hey

I can't help being good at my job! :D

if you did highers then just put the highest grade attained, employers dont want to read 3 lines of the same course!
same with gcses you should just put a sentence saying the number you had that were A*-C. lists are generally bad in CVs especially long ones.

Thanks! ^^^

Any body else do this?

You've got an application form to be filled out and emailed back, so you fill it in in word. Doing so you may push the boxes into bigger sizes throwing off their page formatting. Or maybe their formatting is off anyway, boxes cut over two pages. So you then spend the time making it all look need and tidy, boxes all on one page, if they don't fit eather shorten the gap from the previous section or bump onto a new page. If you have on tiny line going onto a new page, you have to make that fit the previous page.
If all that makes sense?

For example, this marketing one for changeworks http://www.changeworks.org.uk/jobs.php#Marketing
(one I've just filled in) the obvious glaring "mistake" is the box for describing your previous jobs is on the next page. So that was the first thing to be "bumped" up onto the correct page.
I then managed to get education below referees, then making recent employment and "why do you want this job" on the same page. Previous employed filled a page nicely by it's self, then everything else just settles down nicely and looks a whole lot better!

It just plays with my OCD

I've got to get round to applying for jobs again... but doing nothing is soooo good! Going for an office job this time I think. I'll start after the weekend... wish me luck :D

Looking for advice, found a job advertisted through an agency and it says on it:
Please contact Sarah Leask in the first instance for further details of this position – [email protected]

So I emailed her thinking maybe there's more than just sending off a CV, basically just saying I read that it asked to contact you blah blah blah, I am interested in the job and would like to know more blah blah blah. And I haven't heard anything back. Think I should just send CV off?

Job is here:
http://www.s1jobs.com/job/edinburgh/marketing-pr/digital/426042799.html

I'd just apply on the site to be honest, they always put that in job ads but most of the time there's no real need to contact them about anything, just apply :)

well 6 months claiming now and the jobcenters starting to insist i apply for jobs that just arnt there.

the advisor i saw yesterday was even hinting at getting me on disability as i cant do some jobs at the momener with my leg/foot issues even though i can do office work, but she says "its pointless applying when theres 500+ people applying with more exp and qualifications".

i really am getting sick of this whole sambles of a system id complaine but iv spoken to the manager there before and all he can say is "well you need to get sorted then or you will be stuck on benefits forevere" got to say it makes you feel great when the people who are there to help seem content to hurl abuse and half arsed comments rather than actually help people.

They are all next to useless buddy, you just need to go off and find jobs yourself and ask EVERYONE if they know of any jobs going :)

i know the script, done it enough times over the years. but the problem is living where i live theres not much out there. hell when i left school in the 90's we had more jobs localy. i bet theres a good 300-400 jobs gone from the area.

i just get anoyed as they say one thing and then shout when you do it and expect you to do the oposite. from now on im just going to spam my cv at a couple of jobs per week weather its relevent or not just to keep the jobcenter happy, and if they ask why i applied to a job i dont stand a chance il be honest and say "well you guys threatend me with taking what little i get away so what do i have to lose, if i cant apply for something i maybe able to do what harm is there in sending stuff where i know i dont have a chance" and if they have a problem with that they can jump under a bus :P

So guys need some advice i have a job interview id really like to get and im up against quite a lot its a rather large group interview for apple

I'd confirm this with someone who has worked for Apple directly if possible, but Apple seem to be one of those companies who are a bit more laid back about appearance. I've seen people working in their stores who aren't clean shaven, some guys in their stores seem to have things like ear piercings too. The dress code also seems to be pretty relaxed. It's probably worth asking the question on the forum of an Apple related site though, lots of the Apple rumour sites have forums and I'm sure at least a couple of people on there will have worked for them before and be able to help.

Oh yeah I wouldn't recommend anything but a smart shirt and decent pair of trousers and shoes. It's better to be over-dressed at an interview than under-dressed. I'd definitely get rid of the wristbands unless you can hide them under your shirt and are really desperate to keep them on.

Congrats on the interview buddy :)

I almost applied for a job with Apple a while back, no idea why I didn't =/

I've got a wrist band on currently, nothing wrong with them really...But to be honest, I would try and 'hide' it if anything. I had mine under my shirt at my last interview with no issues.

I'm actually wearing one now at my current place of work, which is a grammar school and no one has moaned yet :o
