Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Hmm got a call back today saying that company who are interested in me will be making me an offer, just got to go through their internal procedure to get it out but it's all been approved apparently.

Looking forward to seeing what it might be, could either be a tough decision or very easy!

4 jobs in 12 months isn't too much right? :p

Looks like I'll be joining you all soon - there is a push for voluntary redundancies at the company I work for. They will move to compulsary redundancies if they don't get the numbers they need, so I think I'm going to go. I've been working for the same organisation since 1993, so I think it's time to take a step into the unknown :)

First job was redundancy, second job was personal reasons (loved the job), and reason for leaving this one would be it's a massive step up.

All big big companies as well.

Can't help it I'm a man in demand lol, will see how it goes though. Need to see the offer first...

Fair game :)

Would be nice to be in demand!

In all honesty I think I envy most of you in terms of job searching.

In order to get a job (just after graduating) in the field I want to do I have to:

-Write a CV and Cover Letter.
-Fill in an online form often with several annoying competency based essay questions.
-Online numerical and verbal reasoning tests
-Telephone Interview involving competency based questions, technical questions which can only really be answered with actual experience in the field and my opinion (stupid open ended questions) could be done to improve the current situation in the applied field.
-Assessment centre involving more of the same interviews, mock meetings, e-tray exercises, presentations and role play scenarios.

And its possible to get a rejection notice at the end of any stages in that list. So getting up to the assessment centre then getting a rejection is a BIG pain in the backside.

What happened to the good ol CV and interview days? lol
I haven't graduated yet, but when I was looking for my placement job I ensured I saved all my answers for competency based questions so if a similar question popped up on another online form it was quick and easy to tailor the old answer for it.

And should be a decent payout with nigh on 20 years service ;)

Not bad, aye ;)

The problem, though, is going to be finding something in my field, given my location. Something I'm not at all assured of, so a change of career (read: starting again!) might be on the cards.

Kinda looking forward to it, though, I have to say. Check back with me in 6 months, though.....

I hate waiting, still not heard from them yet, looks like another 6PM jobby, if not tomorrow!

Edit*
Nope, they're still deciding so been told tomorrow :/

Jackpot!

I got the confirmation today, been offered the position, several k increase on my current pay, 33days holiday, final salary pension, healthcare, free use of their services (which is VERY good, free holidays/weekends away :D), discounted use of local services so my ferry ride to the new workplace would be cheaper still and some other bits.

I've got to arrange a start date with them after I've signed the forms off and handed in my notice but I plan on giving myself a week or two off in between and will serve out my notice period to finish things off here and also forward a mate's details to my current employer as a recommendation to replace my position here.
He's going through redundancy at the moment where he works and is similarly experienced so would be perfect for him so I plan on spending some of those 4 weeks notice in getting him up to speed should he be successful at the interview.

Happy times!

Thanks! It's been 2 weeks of waiting and wondering but good things come to those who wait apparently so I am thankful for that!

Also, you have an M5 now? details in motors, stat!

Yes and coming up shortly. :D

Have you done the deed and resigned?

I have many things to sort out here first, I'm in no hurry to do it just yet :p My responsibilities need to be closed off properly!

Edit*
*Face palm*

My new manager is called Stuart and my auto-correct changed it to Stewart in the email body when I sent a confirmation email this morning.

A brilliant start LOL.

I get far more nervous waiting for decisions than I do going for actual interviews, hate it! Well done though mrk and that sounds like a top benefits package, final salary schemes being all but extinct now.

well signed on again yesterday and comented on the 5 empty desks they use for sigings and the woman i saw said "yeah its dinner time" which i replied "ahh thought they had gotten rid of more people again" which she says "they are doing".

how the hell is getting rid of advisors going to help a system that is over stretched to hell now. i really do think the drones at dwp dont have a clue apart from how to cut staff to save money, which to be honest its been doing since around 2007 when it cut my local jobcenter down to a drop in office open 3 days a week.

Cheers! I'm looking forward to having a week or two off in between, maybe go do something up Narf or something :D

It's a bummer yeah but as I have seen this very thing happen in my current place over the last 24 months I can confirm that it needs to be done as much as we all hate it.

Think of it like an inclining line graph, the incoming money line has to go side by side with the outgoing money line otherwise bad things happen and the only way to get both lines going the same direction the same distance apart is to drop a few people and once things pick up staff numbers can increase as well.

Advisers get dropped because they're not making any money as employers aren't hiring, it's a vicious circle :(
