Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Well job offer details came through today, almost certain I'll be taking it as it's a better job, better benefits, better salary (37% increase by my maths) and from speaking to various people in the industry at a company with a much better reputation/status.

Out of the country until next week though so can't do any of the paperwork until I get back.

Exciting stuff.

Nice work mate :)

Got my interview today...Not used to 2 hour interviews :o That and a test =/

Had an interview Tuesday, not really sure how it went :(

They want to hire by the end of the month so should know if I get second interview sometime at start of next week.

Job offer came through today!

However I'm in a bit of a pickle on how I raise an issue regarding salary. The ad stated 17.5-19k and they've offered me less than that. What's the best way to raise the issue without being pushy? It's a 6 month contract with the option to extend and a probationary period of 3 months.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Wait until you see the contract, then call them up. That's not on really, unless the ad said rising to 17.5-19k

It might be you'll get this amount after the 3 months probationary period, but really it's usally you get the advertised rate, then can negotiate an increase after the 3 months.

That was my thinking regarding the advertised salary, that it's followiong the probationary period.

I hate trying to negotiate at times, worst part about jobs.

Been unemployed now for 3 month after qualifying as Deck Officer in the MV. Seems all companies want experience in the rank or on the vessel. Starting to really get me down now! Cant even find work as a shelf stacker!

Got a job interview on Monday, for Marketing Assistant at Capabalitity Scotland. Thing is I was really looking forward to the FMC apprenticeship and the oppurtinities that hold. And got my mind into the idea that I would get a temp summer job in many of the different Edinburgh festivals and then start FMC, not that I've even applied yet and it would be pay depended as college 5days a week will be expensive and most likely in Fife.

Well, had the interview yesterday. Never had to do a test before :o

Interview was odd, went okay in general, they seemed chatty and nice enough. Sadly I screwed up a bit as usual as I'm all giddy if I'm talking to people I don't know in those types of situations, which makes me come across as a right **** :(

Got the paperwork and stuff from Capability Scotland, had a quick flick through and they're asking some indepth health questions, one being have I ever experienced breathing problems, well 4years a go while at uni I had to call an ambulance as I was up all night only able to take shallow breaths come 7oclock in the morning it was really affecting me, think it was due to an infection. Do I include this?
And ever been in in/out patient, loads of times!

And a disclosure which is £50 I think, one that the job centre won't pay for.

why wont the jobcenter pay for it ? as if it helps you get off benefits its in there intrest to get you sorted.

Don't know. I really should pull that finger out and email chris gayling, or what ever his name is. I'll do the interview tomorrow just in case the place will pay for it.

You may also know how I've been looking into training to be a CAD technician/draughstman? Found one job today, for qualified and experienced, £33p/h! £60k per year! Now there's temptation there!

Right, I dont want to start a new thread for this so hoping someone can answer this in here. I have had a part time job for 6 years working in retail, but ive just started a full time job with a different company and am going to keep the part time job until im off probation. Do I need to inform the tax office that what they will have listed as my first job is now infact my second job or will it not make a difference?

Thanks guys

Can anyone verify this statement, or call BS on it: if I'm paid 3 months payment in leiu of notice, am I, as my manager has said to someone else, "not supposed to work for someone else during those three months"?
The inference is that I'd be still employed to my current employer for those three months.

He has said this on a couple of occasions.

I call BS on that. You can moonlight all you want so long as you declare your income etc surely? Unless you work for the government in some way i would expect...

I have an interview today, I have been covering maternity leave for 9 months I only took the job because it was double my last wage. This job will not be a fix termed contract but I only just relised that It was only for 30hrs a week.

Is it a good idea asking why they have advertised the job at this? and see if they would take it to 37.5 hrs a week?

Also this is slightly lower paid job but isnt that much of a drop, I just think that the day I loose might make a difference now :(
