Forgot how bad job searching was :(

I imagine it's contracted somewhere but I'd say yeah, if you're being paid by your employer then you're still employed by them and bound by that contract?

Can't you opt out of those 3 months and not get paid?

Alternatively poo on his desk so you get sent on your way early :p

Surely being paid in lieu of notice means that instead of being given your 3 months notice and then working it you're told leave now but as we haven't given you your 3 months notice here's the cash? You normally get it in one payment that's taxed and NI'd.

That's how it worked at my last government job when they were making people redundant.

To give people an extra 3 months salary as a sweetener they were fudging it so they were only officially telling you your leaving date 2 weeks before hand when contractually they are supposed to give 3 months notice for it.

So people were getting 3 months pay in lieu of notice as well as their redundancy.

I left earlier on a VR scheme so didn't affect me, but of a swindle though that I'm sure the public wouldn't be too happy about :p

Can anyone verify this statement, or call BS on it: if I'm paid 3 months payment in leiu of notice, am I, as my manager has said to someone else, "not supposed to work for someone else during those three months"?

In lieu of notice means instead of notice, so you're no longer employed once they pay you. Otherwise it's just notice with gardening leave. I would certainly assume that to mean that I can sugar off and work for someone else, but it depends on the contract and what documents they give you concerning the notice period and notice pay.

Tomorrow I'm back across to FMC cause last week I was an idiot and got the wrong day!
I also meant to email a contact at an other place for advise on a current opening, he's offered to meet over coffee after my last application if I wanted it for future applications, but even pointers via email would be enough.

Yay had a phonecall the other day offering me a permanent job. Working as 3/0 for Swire Pacific Offshore, flying out to Singapore next month for a few addiional offshore courses then joining the ship straight after that.

Was starting to get worried

Today was the 1st interview phase at my current workplace for my replacement. My mate who I forwarded the CV on to my manager for was one of the 5 candidates being interviewed.

All I know is that one of the 5 candidates were a definite no no, he lost his job when Best Buy closed down and has been jobless since but had no IT skills really. I've been told that 3 people have been selected for 2nd interview so I'm keeping hope that he is one of them :p

Obviously I can't be told any more due to conflict of interest but at least I've done my part by helping him out and putting a good word in :p

I'm on the last 2 weeks of my notice period!

well i was signing on today heard one of the advisors giving out an apointment for 5:15pm, im guessing there opening later now.

Just had a text from my mate, he's been selected for 2nd interview by my current workplace, good on him!

So not only have I got myself a new job but potentially I have got someone else one too :D

Went to the FMC open evening last, found out a wee bit more about the role I wanted, oppurtinities and what the company does, but not the most important thing of money :P Although I doubt anyone would revealed that last night.

It was clear that it was their first time of having an open evening. Place was mobbed! Queue'd to get in, short queue to register, health and safety video and then an other queue to actually get into the where everything was taken place. Spent about an hour on my feet, was close to collapsing due to the pain. And felt lack of communication about events and the scenario from staff. Most stood there clearly chosen just for their pretty smile and fakebaked skin while giving off the aura of "don't approach me"

Once in side and taken down to a room with tables about each post then was left to it without a clue what was happening, and yet an other queue to get into that room! Once inside found the CAD table and had a wee chat with them, wanted a chat about the application process but she seemed avid on ignoring me so just left that room and went off "exploring" the various talks that we passed on the way, not sure what each one was about or if I was even allowed to just join in. Luckily it was a CAD one and across the one was a general "what we do" presentation, where I was finally able to get a seat.

I overheard an employee saying that all factory tours where now only for people interested in applying for the shop apprentices so thought I would just leave it at that.
Passing an other couple of presentations no sure what I was missing out on, but realised I was lucky when I left as I was following a group with an employee letting them through the various security doors. I would have been stuck otherwise.

Applicants seemed a range of ages, but mostly school kids, even heard a couple discussing just sitting their standard grade prelims! (gcse) So guessing I was maybe one of the oldest there.

Wished they had a feedback form as I would have given them some advice. The main one being an upper limit of the number of guests an applicant could bring. Some brought mum, dad and sibling, there was no need for that! Health and safety meant that only certain numbers where allowed in certain areas at a time and by implementing this I reckon numbers would've halved.

In other news I think I was in with there with a Justin Beiber clone! :P
Kept stealing glances then looked sad as we weren't in the same group (standing near to each other and I was more or less the cut off for his group) and I walked past one presentation when I was in my group. Score!.........

Can anyone verify this statement, or call BS on it: if I'm paid 3 months payment in leiu of notice, am I, as my manager has said to someone else, "not supposed to work for someone else during those three months"?
The inference is that I'd be still employed to my current employer for those three months.

He has said this on a couple of occasions.

Payment in lieu - your contract if finished as soon as you get payment, so you can do whatever you want.

It's only if they put you on gardening leave that you wouldn't be able to work for anyone else.

Just had a text from my mate, he's been selected for 2nd interview by my current workplace, good on him!

So not only have I got myself a new job but potentially I have got someone else one too :D

Do you get a referral fee if they choose him? I would check it out ;)

Been looking into a new line of work for a while now and got put in touch with someone who's looking to fill a temp position before doing full recruitment in late April.

Am tempted to jump ship as my current work is boring and dead end as far as I am concerned but the temp job doesn't guarantee getting the position full time once interviews come up as she said the process would be competitive :/

Am torn as to whether to go for it or not - the person has given me until Monday to think it over - I'm just waiting for information on the pay etc later today as that's pretty important if I'm to make a decision!

Haha could do yea but I haven't got enough holiday to take in one go ;)

The job I have now is permanent work so moving away from that is a big risk but I think I need to take the chance if I'm ever to get a job doing what I would rather do - which this temp position is approaching!
