Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Heh his current (old) employer is a secondary school, the very school we both went to in fact! So I can confirm his feelings on wanting to leave :p

Edit*
I start on 10th April, long way to go :)

Ahh okay, im in a secondary school now...not sure what im doing really...

I'd stay if it wasn't for the pay...And people say Public sector gets more money? :p

My new employer took an additional week to make a decision and I got the job.

Sometimes employers use Valve Time :p

Haha well they finally emailed me at 6.30pm...had to wait the whole day :p

Was a good email as it offered me the job :) Start on 2nd april, basically on a helpdesk for a company that provides online casino games etc for a number of websites. £22k starting which Im very happy with as a few years ago I had a role on another helpdesk and it was £17k starting.

I now have a problem though...while job searching the last couple of months I managed to get a contractor role for IT support at events.. but as its on a 'as and when needed basis', so 0-3 days a week, and no guarantee of x amount of events per month I had to keep looking elsewhere as I really need more money than that. So now I have this FT role Im going to have to try to juggle the other role on my days off..could mean 6/7 working days :o Will be tough, but money will be great, although Im not sure how long I could do it for hmm.... or I could just not do it...Ive got a tough decision to make!

I know it's wrong but I'm holding out all hope for this apprenticeship, so much so I've been disheartened to apply for other jobs that would've given a good career start, or atleast experience.
My mind has been set on this and as such I've been trying to think of temp summer jobs to apply for. Being in Edinburgh I've tried the festivals, even the one where I've worked for previous 4years. But I haven't heard anything. I don't feel inspired for the likes of call centres, and shops with my physical issues would be hard to do.

Went for an interview on Wednesday for a County Council position as a Trainee QS, offered the job today, well chuffed. Now I just need to inform my current employers...

I've got a first class honours degree and still can't find a job after 4 months :(

I worked in the public sector with a 1 year part time contract while I was at uni, and the plan was to offer me a role at the end of my studies... however recruitment freeze put an end to that :(

Had an interview last week (passed the phone interview, so was invited to office interview) then I got turned down on Friday... gutted :(

Sky turned me down for their graduate scheme and BT wont let me in there's as I don't have 300 UCAS points from 3 A-Levels...

Really starting to get down over this.... I've seen some UK web hosting companies that I would love to work for, but they are all down in England and I don't think I could move away just yet.... :o

....... fml ......

What types of jobs are you looking for?

I have been looking for jobs and there is literally 2 junior entry roles for software dev in the whole area... and they ask for experience.

I don't see how there is a skill shortage, maybe skill shortages for 4 years experience in x technology. Maybe the reason for the shortage is because they don't take on juniors...

I looked after a web hosting infrastructure and supported clients for two years and loved it - I would take my old job back in a second! But I'm really not too fussed - I love technology..

The job I got interviewed for was a field service engineer which was basically setting up systems for users. I also had another interview for a web filtering company and they said they were going to make me an offer, then emailed saying they couldn't get clearance for the funding :(

Dell also turned me down for a Linux administrator job... and I got turned down for retail / kitchen jobs as I'm "over qualified"....

Bit of a noob question here, but if a company said " Applications are invited in writing with full CV". What are they looking for? What is considered a "full" CV?

Offer letter for job stated £22k starting salary, which I emailed back saying I accept. Received contract which states £21k starting salary. I have asked them to clarify and I am waiting for a reply...but in the mean time I was wondering what you guys would if they say the offer letter number was a mistake?

Im pretty sure they would not have sent me the offer letter without being 100% sure about the salary on offer! It works out at £60 less per month, but it would be more about the principle, offering less after I tell them I accept...

They have been good so far so I'm hoping the contract figure is just human error...

In this day and age and with what the job market is like, can you really afford to be picky over £1000 a year different. Principle over income, i know what id choose.

Well after looking for IT related jobs for months on end now, I've kind of given up and started looking for retail stuff again.

Had an interview at Wickes today. Whilst it's not what I really want, I know plenty of people that would be happy with it and at least I can keep searching whilst I earn money :)

Usually figures stated in adverts I consider to be "up to" figures if you as a candidate meet every single tickbox on the person spec.

The job I landed was advertising £3k more than the offer they gave me but having seen the path they are offering career wise and the benefits package, it would have been crazy to decline the offer and it's still more than what I was on with my old place :p

Check out Marks and Spencer, they update their site with vacancies all the time and they have loads of stores, and all you need to do is answer a few questions online to get an interview, which is very easy to pass. Thats what I did for last Christmas to get some retail taste. Never doing it again! :p

They got back to me and said it was human error on the contract. :) I know I doubt I would have rejected them just because of £1k, but I'm a man of principle :p

Meh, I worked at Wickes for six months in the delivery vans, not bad really...especially when you aren't the driver!

I definately have a placement year! albeit got an offer from one in glasgow, waiting to hear back from the one i really want in london!

Just over 2 weeks until I start at my new place, already had emails from 3 or 4 people there saying hi and offering any help and advice etc I might need.

Got nothing for them so far but sure I'll have plenty soon :)
