Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Contemplating sending an email to the director(who first got in touch and interviewed me aswell) asking how my application/tests are progressing. Bypassing the manager who arranged my test. I'm getting anxious :p

How long would you generally wait before following up?

Week or two depending on whether or not they gave you a longer time frame to be honest

Think I may wait until next week then. The time frame was slim, after the interview, they wanted the work done by the end of the week. It was an immediate start they were after, which is why I'm slightly worried they haven't contacted me. They said I'd get feedback regardless, though.

I just get anxious :p

Started my new job this week - it's just IT support for a charity, but nice to be working close to home and not having a 3 - 4 hour commute every day.
I was also offered another job a couple of days after accepting this one, so it seems jobs are like buses, you wait ages for one then two turn up at once.

I start a new job on May the 8th; was at my present company for 4.5 years before this so I'm slightly nervous! Good company though! Woop!

Good that this thread exists.

I graduated with a 2.1 in Multimedia Technology and Design last May.

I have been applying to places non stop and had the odd interview but nothing at the moment.

I'm working at Burger King at the moment which I have done on and off since I was at college. The hours aren't great. The company is struggling big time.

Whilst your situation sucks, it's good to read similar posts on here because I'm in the exact same situation. Well I'm not exactly, I did graduate in May last year - and I got a part time job up until Christmas but I've been unemployed since.

It sucks.

If your not working & on the dole they will pay for certain courses if your dedicated enough up to a certain amount (unless you have more qualifications coming out your bum than the size of a tape worm)
Much like myself, uni experience (although dropped out due to depression, but HND equivalant) plenty of retail and customer service experience, warehouse experience. So plenty experience work and life wise. I always get the "your not qualified/experienced enough" yet job centre think I am.

acording to my jobcenter they will only pay for courses IF you have a job at the end of it and it enhances your current career opportunity's. and the limit is £500.

but they even told me if you do have a job at the end theres no gurantee in actually getting funding as it goes out to some suit to mull over before they give you the funding. and the way things are theres not a lot of people getting funding for things.

for example they wont pay for SIA badges even if you have exp and a job if you get it.

and as for anything IT wise all they will entertain is basic IT courses, anything else you have to sort yourself.

the jobcenters dont do half of what is claimed by mp's.

They won't exactly pay for things like N+ and MCSE's now though will they ;)

On a side note, applied for another job today, looks right up my street as well :)

So my manager, along with 3 other colleagues, are being made redundant as of Monday, cutting the size of our team from 7 to 3. My new manager will only be onside 2 days a week (managing teams at other sites as well).

Now I earn ok money, and my job is enjoyable enough, but what I liked the most was the team I worked with and the general atmosphere at work it caused. This will change dramatically and for the worse, so it looks like I will finally be getting my butt in to gear and looking for something that pays more, as I was only comfortable with my salary due to having so much fun at work.

well just gotten back from the work programme which remploy are running for g4s.

all today was, was an induction for 10 of us (although only 3 of us turned up), they went through the basics as far as they will try and get us in long term work (26 weeks).

they did say some training they run does work towards a btec, when i asked about how far the training goes i got the same ole answer i use to get from the jobcenter that its all looked at on a one to one basis and theres a set limit. BUT the guy doing the induction did say that they are looking at getting that changed so its more down to remploy than the gov on how much they can spend on training. but he says compared to the jobcenter they are a lot more flexible on what they can and cant pay for.

something else he did say was that no one will be forced in to a job they dont want to do, with in reason of course. but he says they wont be shipping people enmass to callcenters just to clear there books.

next apointments monday next week, where i get half an hour with an advisor to go over what im looking for and would like to do.

********...

I've got a meeting tomorrow myself with Ingeus. Do you still have to attend your normal jsa sign ons? my ingeus meeting is the same day I normally sign in for JSA was wondering if I still have to go for that after my ingeus meeing in the morning.

What a joke it's going to be, but i've braced myself for having a laugh as I have done with the job center for the past 8ish months. All I want to do is avoid working for 3 months full time getting "paid" jsa. 2 pounds an hour they can go **** themselves. As I said i'll just sign off 3 months reset it and then go back on if it comes to that.

Didn't get offered that job I was interviewed for :( Email came through on Monday saying they liked my aptitude, character, would definitely keep me in mind for future positions etc but they already had someone in mind for the role.

However, I then get an email yesterday saying a new position will be opening up(someone is leaving) which is a slightly more technical role and so I emailed back with examples. Haven't heard back since, it was a slightly rushed email(had to nip off to work) and I got home feeling I just didn't sell myself enough for the position :(

Well hey shifty, at least you get the courtesy of being replied to in a positive manner. ;) You're not that far off getting a concrete job offer. :)

I'm honestly at the point of giving up on the UK entirely and trying to secure work elsewhere in Europe...
