Fuel up/down again

I've noticed the variation between cheapest and most expensive stations is getting wider and wider. 135.9 seems common anywhere even slightly rural but in town its 126/127.9.

"Cut down on the air-con"

Damnit I really hate it when people spout that drivel, the BBC shouldn't be helping the misinformation cause, modern A/C is so efficient that turning it off and opening the windows on a NSL road will actually use more fuel due to the increased drag. Secondly the systems are designed to be running, if you hardly ever use them you will save fuel yes however you will eventually end up with a big repair bill because the system isn't being lubricated properly.

Apparently turning my headlights will save me fuel.....well yes because I will be dead.
I imagine that you mean turning your headlights 'off'? I also suspect that the suggestion is that you should not have your headlights on during daylight hours . . . however, I do accept that this should be made very much clearer in view of the low intelligence of some motorists :p

Curiously enough, this "misinformation" comes from the motorist hating AUTOMOBILE Association. Added to which, I don't think that the suggestion was that you should turn off the A/C & open the window - it was "Cut down on the air-con".

Actually, they sound pretty sensible (if perhaps blindingly obvious) suggestions :)

I stick to the slow lane, avoid using my brakes as much as I can and roll to traffic lights where possible. Switching my engine off at Traffic Lights will probably add a further 1-5mpg if I could be bothered.

Leaving the Window open will definitely cause drag but I don't have any A/C in my Car. I also switch my heaters off unless I really need to warm up.

Women

"I used to pull up at traffic lights and think they would go green in a little while, and leave my feet on the clutch and accelerator, but now I put it into neutral, the handbrake on and take my feet off the accelerator, which can save you about £10-20 a week.

Also whats a 'Vauxhall Centra'

Is that hovering her foot over the accelerator or revving the nuts off the car waiting to dump the clutch?

The worst part of that article is:
40mph Moron said:
The more you are pressing the accelerator pedal, the more petrol you're running through the car, so if you keep it at a constant speed, at 40mph instead of 50, 30, 60, 20.

So....she's saying do 40mph everywhere?

This is what makes me late to work you cretins! Had to follow a train of cars today behind a small lorry doing 35mph. Fair enough, the small lorry probably had something on board so had to drive slowly, but no one would overtake. And i say this hand on heart - the road is as wide as a runway and you could see for 800-1000 metres quite easily.

People are just so **** scared of pressing the accelerator peddle in case they get below 50mpg and it costs them an extra 3p by overtaking.

So there i was, rolling along at 35mph, unable to do a thing about it.
