Games you're playing, and games...

I dunno how far through I am with Ragnarok, but I find it dire. Same issues as the first in terms of pacing, actually worse. The story is drawn out to the point of it feeling like watching paint dry. And the combat and loot is meh.

I had the same sort of experience. I'm not sure I really enjoyed it all that much up until the final quarter of the game and once I'd completed it I kind of wanted more.

GoW is rather uneven and I've always thought it was a bit overrated but I started to appreciate it more after playing Ragnarok which not only repeats some of its mistakes but also adds a fair share of new ones, including incredible amount of hand holding, treating the player like a dumbass, weird level design with completely nonsensical puzzles repeated ad nauseam and plot problems.

Yeah, it's easy, cinematic entertainment, you just push through, unable to die when climbing massive walls (which was supposed to be exciting I guess) because the game doesn't let you put a foot wrong outside combat, command jumping, command everything, some combat in between, walking sections, marked paths, yeah, been there, done that. Some cinematics bits, good graphics and there you have it.

It has its moments but 2018 is stronger, I could give it an 8/10 overall whereas Ragnarok would need major changes to half the game to jump from 7/10 to a consistent 8/10, let alone a 10/10 masterpiece. There's a lot that could be said about its problems, though it does have a few very good moments I liked.

Overall, I find it hilarious that the original trilogy were just hack'n'slashers but had deeper mechanics, puzzles and gameplay choices than the new games.

I loved GoW 2018 : great pacing, cinematic, engaging characters, an emotional story and a real "weighty" feel to combat. Only thing that annoyed me slightly were the frequent puzzles that made the middle-to-end part of the game feel a bit like a theme park. But hey., we all have different tastes when it comes to gaming, or anything in life. GoW Ragnarok was more of the same, but in contrast the combat lost some of it's oomph and the story/characterisation wasn't as compelling. Still worth a buy if you own a PS5, but it's not quite the masterpiece the 2018 version is.

Anyway, I'm currently bouncing between games impatiently awaiting D4 and FF 16. On Series X I'm dabbling with Like a Dragon:Ishin ! and Midnight Suns. I enjoy both of them, for different reasons, but neither are groundbreaking. Both provide plenty of content and are good value if you go in knowing what to expect.

On the PS5 still chipping away at Octopath Traveler 2. Higher production values than the original with an art style I really enjoy. A long game with plenty of content, but for some reason I'm finding it's something I can't dig my teeth into for long play sessions. Perhaps I'm a bit burnt out on pixel-art games after Chained Echoes, Triangle Strategy and Tactics Ogre:Reborn.

Finished RE4 Remake and now going for Hardcore S+ rank with pistol/knife only which will be hard AF. Whatever, I'll probably play it like five more times as it's probably my GOTY 2023 as far as remakes go and probably overall as well.

A game that wasn't really like classic RE got at least a bit closer to it while getting big improvements in overall tone, atmosphere, exploration and gameplay but half the game wasn't removed in the process, unlike RE3.

Insane replayability as well, considering its length and content on the first playthrough.

Other than that, playing Hogwarts Legacy enjoying the atmosphere and being annoyed by the lack of dynamic hud.

I am undecided on the Burning Shores DLC for Forbidden West, in the process of pondering I bought Dredge! It's a fishing type mechanic game with a mysterious undertone to it, little fishing mini games aswell

What a awesome game this is, super chill, great gameplay loop and quite addicting really, has that "one more go" type feel. Nice to slowly get the upgrades as you go :) Anyone played it?

Yup, picked it up a couple of weeks ago and finished it after about 20 hrs. Enjoyed my time with it ; will look out for future games from the developer.

I loved Dredge I've fully upgraded my ship. I'm stuck on a couple of puzzles but don't want to look them up. For the money it's a cracking hidden gem.

Just started Dying Light coop with a mate, also shocked to see from the running total I've spent 218 hours on SP!

Just finishing up stuff in W3 blood and wine. Man.. I haven’t played it for a few months now and every time I go back to this game…it’s just a masterpiece in RPG’s.

Edit - and the extra added music for the skellige deck in gwent is absolutely fantastic.

Interesting, whacked in the disk this evening, installed and excited to play and then greeted with a 150GB download... turns out, in small print on the box there is "Download required" - May as well bought the digital version

Completed my Hardcore S+ run with handgun/knife only in RE4 Remake and ready for my third playthrough. Really getting my money's worth out of this game:D

Also tried Far Cry 5 for some braindead Ubisoft fun as the game's free. Won't be able to complete it most likely but I'll wreak some havoc on cultists before I'll get burnt out on it. Probably within the next 5h or so:P

I've just started Elden Ring on PS5. Is it worth getting it in PC instead? I have a 3090 and 4k screen...

Absolutely, I love the game but the PS5 version is disgraceful. PS4 version on PS5 is the only way to get more or less consistent 60fps but with much worse foliage and some visual hits here and there.

On a 3090? PC no doubt.
