Games you're playing, and games...

Tried out Redfall this morning and quiet enjoyed it. Not nearly as bad as some reviews would have you believe.
I'm in the opposite camp - think it's every bit as bad as reviews suggest. The game is clearly unfinished with low rez textures, subpar performance, awful AI ( enemies not moving/attacking ), bad default controls and a myriad of bugs. To me, this feels like an early beta.

Anyway, to keep this on topic had a fun time with Age of Wonders 4 yesterday evening, In contrast to Redfall, it's a very polished experience. Fans of AoW 3 will be happy - it's an iteration of the franchise but with greater customisation, UI/QoL enhancements and better visuals. Also, on the side I'm continuing to work my way through Metroid Prime Remastered ( gets a bit tense & stressful in some of the later areas ).

I am currently playing through Gotham Knights.. Its pretty grindy and most of the main characters are pretty unlikeable but its not too bad considering it cost me £8.

Also to be honest i am enjoying the latest update of Fortnite (No builds) with the Star Wars stuff :D

Completed my third run of RE4 Remake and trying out some games on PS Plus Extra but nothing particularly grips me now.

Still playing Ghostwire but mainly for the atmosphere and the fact there's some interesting folklore-related vocab to learn as I'm playing in Japanese, other than that it's very average mechanically.

Fallen Order was pretty meh after a while, it's not bad but feels quite clunky and the parry lasts a lifetime on the second hardest difficulty so it doesn't feel that satisfying. Platforming feels off as well. Completed the second planet and gave up for now.

Tried Immortals but the forced humour and busywork are already starting to grate on me. It's pretty fun in a Ubisoft kind of way and the combat is better than in BoTW, the game it blatantly rips off, but the rest isn't.

I think I'll just go back to Judgment, best game I've tried on there so far, not counting some of the first party exclusives.

Or maybe play Hogwarts Legacy, dunno.

Ok, found something for myself. Kena is really good, great balance of combat and platforming, impressive graphics and nice atmosphere. Will stick with it for sure.

Also installed DMC5 SE, completed the base game on PC on release but I think I'll play it for a while. The only thing is that for the game to really shine, you need to spend time on the combat and it's really damn deep and mechanically demanding on higher levels, don't know if I have the drive for it but when you do get good, the thing just flies.

That's the meat of the game, it won't be too fun for casual play, other than the over-the-top atmosphere and decent OST.

Seems it's Capcom year for me, between this and all the RE games I've played recently:p I only need to get the open world slogs out of the way:p

There's a lot on Extra, way too much for me to tackle:D

Kena is a great game, with one major flaw : the boss fights are insanely hard, which is quite jarring given how easy the rest of the game is. But the animation, audio and game world are top tier. Would have been my GOTY when it came out if not for the boss difficulty ( It was even harder on release, but they have patched some things eg. increasing parry window ).

I've fought two bosses so far on Hard difficulty and they were rather easy TBH so maybe they have patched them to hell or I'm just used to this sort of gameplay having completed quite a few decently challenging games over the years.

Well, unless there's a massive difficulty spike later on that'll take me by surprise, which might well be the case:p

EDIT: Oh, I think I'm on what's supposed to be normal difficulty, I'll have to check when I get to play it but that'd explain it being rather easy so far, will keep it that way anyways as I'm not looking for a challenge in this sort of a game.

What was the last "boss" you fought ? There are several mini bosses in the first half of the game, but they are trivial compared to the proper boss fights later on. When this game was released the whole internet was raging at the difficulty in the later game.

Oh, it's late game stuff then. I'll stick with normal and see what's what, if it's around soulsborne or Sekiro level, I should manage. Otherwise, I'll drop the difficulty.

If it's harder than my last challenge run in RE4, I'll tear my hair out:P

Just beat Corrupt Taro, hadn't died up to that point but he took like 4-5 tries. It's not impossible, at least on normal, but yeah the discrepancy between normal gameplay and this boss is huge. I wasn't even sure when I could deal damage for the first three attempts TBH but figured out later.

Unfortunately, he's "difficult" for all the wrong reasons but still digging the game so far.

Having started Redfall today and putting in a few hours I have to agree.

Gunplay is painful with a kind of negative accel like back in the Deus Ex 2 days. Frame rate is Janky. I also agree it looks pants for a new game and I’m struggling to see why the frame rate is so bad. I popped onto Ghostwire for a quick play afterwards and even on performance mode it looks much better.

Redfall AI is poor so far. It’s a shame the game is so unpolished because the concept is OK - nothing ground breaking but if gameplay was tight and the performance was good it would be a pretty solid game.

Yes, that’s the first proper boss where the difficulty spikes. The developers re- tuned that one to make it easier. Good luck with the rest … they are even harder ! Or at least were … I played the game when it released.

Yeah, I'll do my best:D Taro was still a rather light jog compared to something like even the first optional boss in Sekiro with a lot more to memorise and execute. Heck, the minibosses like the Raging Bull were harder:P I can also always lower the difficulty from Spirit Guide, unlike in that game. The thing is, Sekiro is twice as hard while being twice as mechanically sound so I'm sure I'll die quite a few times to some bosses just from that alone:P But well, nothing can touch that game when it comes to a balanced challenge and quality of combat so I instantly get reminded of it when someone tries to push From-style combat into games unfit for it.

The biggest problem is that the controls feel a bit too imprecise for what they're going for with the fights. Both parry and roll have weird lag to them that throw me off sometimes.

I actually beat Taro without any abilities like Rot Hammer because I barely upgraded up to that point to save up so I'm gonna get everything I can now knowing the bosses are more demanding. I was surprised because the first phase was really easy and then suddenly the camera can't keep up:P Still, his patterns and timing are simple, just the grab killed me two times because the roll has a slight delay and I couldn't always time it correctly, felt like it was homing.

Don't know what's been nerfed but can't imagine them slashing the difficulty by half so it's probably reasonably subtle, I'll try Expert for the hell of it.

Decided to start Judgment this bank holiday weekend, what a game! Yakuza: Like A Dragon was my first ever yakuza game, Judgment is so engrossing! Like a dragon had a sense of silliness about it, this is just captivating in every sense, I cant put it down
It’s brilliant loved everything about it. Sequel is great too.

Yakuza is easily one of the best and most underrated series ever, at least on these forums because user scores on Steam for example are damn high:P As a long-standing fan of those games, I think Judgment is one of the best entries and a very solid spin-off overall.

They're also making a new Kiryu game for whatever reason but I'll take it:P

I am up to Yakuza 4. 3 was just OK but enjoying this one a lot more. Then into 5, 6 and 0 (already played Like a Dragon). I’ll probably grab Ishin! after all that.
