Games you're playing, and games...

It wasn't the storyline that made TLOU stand out, it was the storytelling. Horizon had a better, more interesting story, but wasn't told nearly as well as TLOU.

Which is exactly what I said was overrated in my post:
Sure TLoU had a decent story, for a video game. The quality of the story telling was massively over-exaggerated because everyone rating it so highly were considering video games in isolation, not comparing it to all forms of story telling.

A story is a mix of both storyline and storytelling, of which the former was below average and the latter above average when considering all forms of media. It was praised as being better than an average TV series, but it fell far from that mark.

It was my own fault for believing the hype and not realising that video games have a very long way to go to match the maturity of TV series and film which have perfected the art.

I dunno, I feel the same way about TV, I'm amazed at some of the dross that gets recommended by people :P TLOU was comfortably better than 90% of the stuff on TV. Certainly staying in genre, it's miles better than any of the pulp dross in The Walking Dead.

Fair point about the genre, I can't think of anything that comes close.

Going to give Persona 5 a go, stepping outside of games I usually play and exploring other titles I wouldn't usually play - i've heard good things about it!

Any tips?

I would recommend picking up the Persona 5 Royal edition if you can. It's the same game more or less, but has been tweaked & polished by the devs with some additional content added. However, if you've bought the original Persona 5 don't worry - it's still an excellent and very slick experience.

Be aware, regardless of which version you play this is a LENGTHY game and there are numerous game mechanics to contend with. But don't be afraid to experiment with in-game choices ; you can't really screw up so badly the game becomes unplayable. There are multiple endings and your actions will lead to different outcomes which gives the game replayability.

In the original version the time granted for doing social activities can feel quite restrictive ; these activities are important for raising your skills, improving relationships with other characters ( which can increase your powers, lead to romance and better intra-party performance during combat ) and earning money. However, the devs listened to feedback and have given much more freedom & time for players to perform social activities in the Persona 5 Royal edition - that's why I'd recommend playing that if you can.

Yeah I got the Royal edition, I have to say I am really enjoying it at the moment, even more than I thought I would! Not far in at all yet by any means but my initial thoughts are I think I, gonna enjoy this! :)

Stick with it, it's great, worth it for the atmosphere alone.

So glad that I did stick with it. Was very frustrated with not just the difficulty but also not knowing what to do. I'm very happy I've persevered as although it's incredibly hard (died so so so many times) it's very rewarding too.

I've now got a feel.of the mechanics and have killed the clerical beast on 2nd attempt and just narrowly lost out to father Gascoigne on the first attempt. Just taken a wee break now, just spent the last 4 hours to get that far :o:D

Congrats, it'll only get better from now on:) The bosses are cool AF and the atmosphere is superb, quite a lot of secrets and lore as well so explore the hell out of it. The first area prepares you pretty well so take your time to get the hang of things, there's also a nice hunter outfit there that provides a solid stat boost over the default but most importantly looks utterly badass:D

This game's difficulty level is great IMO, I didn't find it too hard but it can be challenging and it's definitely not a cakewalk, exactly the same as Sekiro which I also loved. And as you say, it's really rewarding.

It also doesn't guide you as to where to go, it's all about exploring and unlocking shortcuts but that's half the fun because the level design is brilliant for the most part.

Grab the Old Hunters DLC while you're at it, it has some of the best locations and bosses but it's like twice as hard as the base game so don't do it in NG+ because it'll do your head in:p If you get it, wait till you're around 2/3 through the main game and then jump into it.

Thanks to PS Now, I've been playing some things I would never have tried. Spider-man is incredible. Xcom 2 I've tried thanks to Gears Tactics and it seems to do some things a bit better. I also fired up The Evil Within, man that is scary. Reminds me of Silent Hill 2 so far. But picture quality on the first one is a bit ropey, that could well be a PC purchase.

Started streets of rage 4 finally only on and off though when I need a break from Bannerlord.

I'm trying to play all the previous games before I have a stab at this. I've got them on Sega Vintage Collection on Xbox.

They are proper hard games to complete but can't put it down.

Just completed Ori and Will of the Wisps, sank 26 hours into the game trying to do all the side missions and rank up. An absolute masterpiece of a game.

Persona 5 is amazing, I have really fallen in love with it! I love the characters, the story, the art style and the music - I can see why people love it so much

I've given up on RDR2, i genuinely think it's a pretty poor game with decent characters and graphics.

On to Plague Tale.

Persona 5 is probably my favourite game of the current generation, I've got Royal waiting to go and I'm looking forward to P5 Scramble which I hope will be out sometime this year.

I'd recommend looking into Persona 3 and 4 also, they're not quite as polished as 5 but the main elements are all there.

It's funny how consoles can breathe new life into games. I've had Titan Quest in my Steam account for years. Years. And I thought I'd try it out on PS4 and was hooked straight away. The controls work really well and the trophies are a nice thing to have. I think it probably would have just sat untouched for many more years in my PC library.

Picked up Detroit: Become Human, hooked already - the voice acting and dialogue and some of the scenes/missions are very emotional!

Took me a while to get into it, as it does feel quite slow and lethargic - BUT once you get involved it feels like you are in for the ride!
Yeah I really enjoyed this too - so much that I put the effort into getting Platinum :)

I wish I understood what's so great about RDR2 - I found it unbearably dull, and I loved GTAV. At least I'm not the only one.

I’m on chapter 3, so far the story telling and engagement blows RDR2 out of the water.

I’m playing it in French as the developers are French.

A Plagues Tale was one of those games where I went in with no expectations and came out loving the whole experience

Superb game
