Hard working normal people are getting totally screwed by tax bands.

Fairness would be the same tax band for everyone.

Yes, it would.

The problem is that fairness is not present in other parts of the system.

One thing I learned recently, is that when the banks printed more money (QE), if it had been distributed evenly, every person would have received 25k.

As it happens, 95% of the QE money went from the banks to the richest 5% in society.

(source: BBC)

So where is fairness?

let me guess, you work really, really hard and you could do your bosses job in your sleep. You have no idea how he got the recent promotion ahead of you..

Am I close?

Hmmm...no where even close :D

I'm self employed (ergo no boss) I've never wanted to or have 'worked hard' in my life (I prefer to work intelligently) have an easy work life with loads of free time now and % wise am in the top 20-30% I would say. Perfect for my wanted work/life balance ;)

Luck, nepotism, connections, intelligence, birthright all play more a significant factor in someones success than just 'working hard'

Grats, but I didn't mean physically work hard. Connections come from networking, intelligence comes from education. All require you to put the effort in and work hard at some point in your life...

I just tried one of those salary % calculators... apparently im in the to 15%... seems too high for me... http://www.theguardian.com/society/datablog/interactive/2012/jun/22/how-wealthy-you-compared

EDIT; damn people who don't go through PAYE ( like yourself ;) ) skewing the figures I would imagine.

It's hardly shocking though is it?

I doubt those percentages are correct. It's putting me way too high and I'm certainly not 'rich'.

That isn't just a gross salary comparison though tbf, it is trying to take into account your expenses, especially children, and give a more disposable income comparison.

With that it says I'm in the top 7%....(as my 1 child is now over 18) but I certainly don't feel that rich! lol

:p I do have a part-time PAYE job as well (still my own boss in that though and do my own hours) which I took for some socialisation hours, as I was working from home all the time I started to go a bit stir crazy not leaving the house for days :D

There was a more accurate one somewhere.. Can't find it though.

I honestly don't know who to vote for at the moment.

Labour can't change the economy for the better and would possibly make it worse.

The Tories are eroding public services from many angles - from teaching, the NHS and the emergency services.

The Lib Dems attributed the good things that happened in Parliament to them and blamed the bad things on the Tories.

UKIP and Greens are both the same - pressure groups for the Tories and Labour who are both unprepared and unwilling to govern the country.

I'll have to wait for full manifestos to be released as well as the debates. Someone give me a party to vote for!

Lib Dems down to 5th place, behind the Greens? I guess nobody agrees with Nick anymore :p

On this forum, which is entirely unrepresentative, just look at the ratio of Tory to Labour. In the real world Labour just scrape above the Tories on popular vote

+1.

The media onslaught over the last year against UKIP really has made some think they are just a rebadged BNP

+1.

UKIP != BNP.

To be honest, callmeDave made a big mistake with the whole UKIP thing. He should have been saying "Ok, I understand that you have concerns. I'm gonna listen". But instead he was busy calling any UKIP supports 'closet racists', 'fruitcakes', and 'loons'. Insulting people is not exactly the best way to go winning them back...

The media attacks all parties. If UKIP is getting a greater relative amount of bad publicity it is due to their candidates acting inappropriately.

UKIP if you want to!

Not 100% sure I'll vote for UKIP yet, but with Labour helping the right-wing press do their jobs so much it's hard to see me voting for them.
