**Gigabyte Super OC GTX 480's - VERY LOW PRICES!**

Just out of interest, I took my artifacting 480 SOC out and had a good look at it. On the heatpipe there was a very small (say 5mm by 5mm) piece of masking tape stuck to it!

I'm going to RMA mine, and hope that the replacement actually works! I have tried to eliminate every other possible component, but am convinced that these cards may be too good to be true. If so, I might look at a 570.

PLEASE PLEASE RMA TO GIGABYTE!!!!
it seems maybe OC can't find faults for some reason.

no :) mines grate
errrm, bit late - but thanks :D

no- I don't think so anyway

mine certainly seemed brand new - from the contents of the box to the card itself which seemed mint

Same with mine

The SE's are fine, I haven't seen anyone with an SE that has had a problem.

It is purely the SOC's that are not capable of doing their advertised OC speeds.

Seems so.

If Gigabyte find it faulty then will i be allowed to claim all my expenses from OC?
Didn't the 460s have problems where they weren't compatible with some mobos?

I don't think there's a hard rule, but when I RMA'd a card back to EVGA and it was found faulty (after OC said it wasn't) they refunded me the testing and shipping costs.

gigabyte forum

hi i have being trying to get on to the gigabyte forum for a week i am trying to register and it says a email has been sent but no email was sent is there somethink wrong with the site

I have and received an RMA number

I hope they have 480 SOC boards left - as I can't see how you can repair a GPU that won't reach the right clocks - that said worried a replacement could be a 570 - which I personally wouldn't be happy with as sold a 570 to get a 480 with the additional memory and memory bandwidth

but we'll cross that bridge if ever gets there - hopefully a direct swap or perhaps ther eis a tweak they can do - perhaps something is wrong with the power phases etc - who knows - I'm no GPU expert

also I'm going to put a note with the card to ask if they have forgotten to put a pad on some of the memory chips lol !! it doesn't seem right thats for sure

I have to additionally note i spoke to OCUK today - to ask if any problem RMA'ing direct vs to them - have to say they were very polite and I got through quickly so hats off to OCUK.

one thing to note if you send off to Gigabyte you only send the card - so its quite a bit lighter ... - well obviously the card well packed in a box etc - but still lighter than whole SOC box - which when I put in a 2nd box took it over 2kg - which was going to be 20 quid via RM SD

also note Gigabyte Warranty is 3 years from date of manufacture ... not an issue with this card mine was week 45 of 2010 - but something to watch

that said I personally think any Graphics card warranty over 2 years is not really needed as would be so out of date anway- I'd pick a decent (Gigabyte meant to be very good for RMAs)- quick RMA service over a long (say 5-10 years) slow one :)

Could you also go onto the gigabyte forums and link them to page 9 of this thread. Thanks

I hope they run out of the SOCs and replace with a 580 :D

I used Gigabyte a few years back (well about 5) on an RMA and they were superb

so fingers crossed

I would have tried for a swap at OCUK but concerned that another brand new out of box one could be just as bad (not OCUKs fault)
