**Gigabyte Super OC GTX 480's - VERY LOW PRICES!**

Thanks for earlier offers of testing in another pc may take you up sometime please when
I have some more free time

My SOC is really picky best I've managed with small bump in volts is

750/2020 mem which was stable no artefacts of 20 mins of furmark

Any higher than 780 and needs loads of volts
And even them not stable - even if I downclock mem to
1850

Really don't understand what's different with my mobo vs gbs who tested it Stable

My mobo is only pci-e 1.1 but that should not matter

Wish I'd kept my MSI 570 :(

ok, lets see what else could be wrong. Have you run memtest?
Try taking everything out apart from the essentials.

Are you sure you can't test it in another system?

And have you got any ATI drivers on there?

Cheers for reply

Did a sweep to remove all ati drivers

Have tried lower CPU and mem overclocks

Tried lower mobo nbridge and higher nbridge volts

No difference

Thing is my 4890 and 57O on this mobo were fine without any tweaks

Both 20 30 min plus occt stable even at high overclocks

Posted on my iPhone so please excuse some oc my formatting :)

I think the only course of action is to test in another system and get some screenshots from there.

Cheers

Perhaps it's some weird occurrence of pci 2.0 card on a 1.1 mobo

I think 2.0 provides more power on it's pcie slot

Perhaps the sophisticated vrm arrangement on this card relies on this extra power ?

Anyone else running this card on a pcie 1.1 mobo ?

Wiki just states all pcie 2.0 cards GENERALlY work on pcie 1.1 mobos. ....

Could be that it isnt geting enough v's on the pci 1.1 (just speculating. I dont actually know for sure)

Have you not got a hard drive lying about you could hang and install windows on and see if you have better luck with a fresh install JUST to see if somthing else is causing it

My replacement GTX 480 SOC arrived... and I’m a little disappointed actually. I barely notice any performance increase over my 8800 GTS 512

I thought I'd be able to play pretty much any game on highest (or close to) settings. But I still cant max out F1 2010. I get the same FPS as my old card, albeit with a slightly higher min fps. If i apply the fix so puddles don’t disappear then i get a max fps of ~27... same as my old card again)

Metro 2033 on highest settings I get 16-25 fps. Portal 2 looks slightly better (i think...).

got ~5800 3dmark11 score on the performance test and 2339 with the extreme test... The rest of my system is kinda old so maybe its holding it back? Or perhaps my expectations were just unreasonably high?

system:
Q6600 @ 3.25Ghz
2GB GeIL DDR2 PC6400 800Mhz
Asus P5B deluxe motherboard
antec 750W PSU

I'm guessing there's a bottleneck. More RAM?
I noticed large differences between this and 5850

If buckster has no other machine or knows anyone near by with a machine that he test on then he wont be able to test on another machine will he

Buckster are you in the essex area ? colchester to be more precise ?

You should be getting more than that I would have thought. It should be smashing an 8800.

Watch this video and skip to the parts when he benches & shows game play FPS to get an idea of what your card should be capable of.

Got to be the RAM, your system is not too disimilar to mine and my 480 SOC obliterated my 9800GTX (which is an 8800 in disguise). We are talking at least half as fast again in everything I threw at it.

Cheers guys, yea I think the RAM might be holding me back...

I have an extra 2x1 GB GeIL pc5300 333mhz... but I'll have to lower my CPU overclock. Do you think that'll help things? No harm in trying I suppose...

I’m hesitant to buy more RAM... I only bought this RAM a few weeks ago (by accident - I thought I already had 2GB of the same stuff). Dunno if it’s worth spending £90 on 2x2 GB ddr2 RAM for my system or just wait and spend £400 on a proper upgrade, i.e. new motherboard/CPU/RAM.

What do you think?

Wait IMO. especially considering 4gb of DDR3 is only £40!
