A decent round finally - strange hardly played in 4 weeks apart from wednesday there.

Lost a ball at the 1st and a ball at the 13th - 3 putted from about 50 ft at the last. 79 less 11 for 68 nett.

Playing off 11.0 so should get a 0.8 cut as CSS is normally 72

Well done. Shot a personal best today when scoring a 94. I had 2 penalty strokes and 3 sand saves in my round, really chuffed because I didn't realise I had scored so low.
I have scored less than 90, but that's on a par 64...

Played Wednesday and Thursday at Cray Valley in Orpington. First round was +5 after ten but then joined up with a fellow single golfer and immediately played rubbish! Thursday stuck to myself and managed a 79 which included a triple chip seven. Short game still has now touch at all but long game was mostly on song.

^ was the other single golfer not good? I often find I play to the standard of those I'm playing along with. Play with good golfers = play well, play with bad golfers = major frustration :p

I've not hit the course for over a month now and don't plan to do so for another couple of weeks, or at least until I feel comfortable with the fairly big changes my local pro made to my swing.

Went to the range on Saturday and hit some poor ones, some huge pull hooks, an odd push or two, but some huge high draws too - draws were never my shot before, so loving this part! But it's going to take some time for consistency I think. I barely hit 3 similar shots together which is mighty frustrating, but I know if I stick with it the long term results should be really good, which is what it's all about :)

Looks like another weekend of golf ruined by the weather! This is getting depressing now :(

Here here, hate being typically English and talking weather, but when you have two seasons all year (cold wet winter and cold wet summer) it does get a touch boring... Especially when you switch on Sky and see those bu**ers on the PGA Tour playing under blue sky after blue sky, oh how golf can be a hard life sometimes...

You may of heard/read this before but I just LOLed and got lots of funny looks from colleagues in the office so I figure you should suffer the same fate :)

Ed and Nancy met while on a singles cruise and Ed fell head over
heels for her.
When they discovered they lived in the same city only a few
miles apart Ed was ecstatic.
He immediately started asking her out when they got home.
Within a couple of weeks, Ed had taken Nancy to dance clubs, restaurants, concerts, movies, and museums.
Ed became convinced that Nancy was indeed his soul mate and true love. Every date seemed better than the last.
On the one-month anniversary of their first dinner on the cruise
ship, Ed took Nancy to a fine restaurant.
While having cocktails and waiting for their salad, Ed said,
"I guess you can tell I'm very much in love with you. I'd like a
little serious talk before our relationship continues to the next stage.
So, before I get a box out of my jacket and ask you a life changing question, it's only fair to warn you.
I'm a total golf nut, I play golf, I read about golf, I watch golf on TV. In short, I eat, sleep, and breathe golf.
If that's going to be a problem for us, you'd better say so now!"
Nancy took a deep breath and responded,
"Ed, that certainly won't be a problem. I love you as you are and I love golf too; but, since we're being totally honest with each other, you need to know that for the last five years I've been a hooker."
Ed said, "I bet it's because you're not keeping your wrists straight when you hit the ball."

Can anyone recommend a drill for stopping an open shoulder golf stance at address?

I have a tendency to move my right shoulder forward (rotate) when addressing the ball and opening my shoulders causing my alignment to be all wrong.... I figure this is causing a slight slice on irons, and sometimes a pretty big one with a driver.

I'm trying to get the feel of moving my right arm over whilst keeping my shoulders still and feel my right shoulder 'dip' instead of rotate if that makes sense? It's easy in front of a mirror, not so much when you're stood on the course :(

Dont look at the Green / Fairway while adressing the ball...

Pick a target 2 foot in front of your ball that is inline with your target.
(When practising you can drop a tee on the ground)

Walk in to your setup from behind the ball and aim your club face at the close target then set your body up to the club face/close range target.

Then swing and hit the ball over your target point without ever looking at the long range target "Green / Fairway".

You will find that you are opening your shoulders because your looking at a target that is a long way away, by bringing the target much closer it is much easier to align square to it.

Another simple thing to do is provided your not playing in a comp is to get your mate to stand behind and align you up before you hit the shot...
dont worry he will be very happy when you return the favour...

Thanks mate, will give this a blast.

Last two rounds have seen me hit scores in the mid 90's ok, nothing special, but I have improved a lot over the last 12 months. Anyway, today I hit the range and selected my 9 iron. To my surprise and frustration I shanked the first dozen balls I hit, I only stopped once I changed to my hybrid
After that my ball striking improved and I cannot fathom as to why I couldn't strike the ball cleanly with such an easy iron...

Anyone else suffered similar problems without an obvious reason?

Yes, it's happened to me a few times, there are a number of reasons why you would shank a ball.
Take a look here for some ideas - http://www.free-online-golf-tips.com/golf-shank.html

Btw you would be much less likely to shank a rescue than you would a 9 iron due to the form of the club.

Broke my Chinese knockoff one wood at the weekend...what should I be looking at for around £100 second hand? Thanks.

Take a trip to your local golf store and try a few out. Once you find one you like, ask if they have a second hand club. If not, try phoning a few golf clubs. You usually find they sell member's old clubs for them.

Assuming you are looking for a driver (1 wood) in that price range I would think Ping G15 / K15, TaylorMade Burner 2.0 / R9, Titleist 909 D2 etc.

But it's really down to you and your swing and what you feel comfortable hitting. What's good for me and someone else may not be good for you at all.

I've had some lessons recently and I'm starting to think seriously about getting some new clubs once I feel I'm swinging well. Getting close now I think! I'm going to try some out in the next few weeks but wanted to get people's opinions on where to get some clubs.

I live near Wolverhampton so can anyone who lives nearby recommend somewhere in the West Midlands to get clubs? I want to get custom fitted and was looking at maybe The Three Hammers (where I'm getting my lessons) or The Belfry but I'd imagine that they'd be pretty expensive!

Obviously getting clubs online would be great price wise but wouldn't give me a custom fitting. I was planning to avoid somewhere like Direct Golf as I don't want a pushy salesman trying to selling me John Letters but is this justified? Any experiences with Direct Golf/American Golf?

Most half decent courses will have pro shops where the pro will be able to custom fit you. If you have the money the belfry would be an excellent choice I believe they charge around £50 for a fitting session but if you buy the clubs from them then they take that off the price of the clubs.

What ever you do.... get custom fit its definitely worth it
