^^ cheers - can;t wait.

Charity day - so includes breakfast, late lunch, prize giving. Free electric trolleys and also got a forecaddie for our group (anyone know what that is without googling?)

Just put three budget grips on my clubs to try them out:

Well I'm chuffed with this - Callaway Big Bertha 454 - paid a smudge under £30 inc delivery from the bay :)

Can't wait to try it out :D

What are peoples opinions on custom fitting? I'm a high handicapper, ill normally go around in low to high 20s. My swing is fairly consistent on iron play, with a slight fade that i've battled for months to try and get rid of but can't seem to.

Went down to AG a couple of weeks back, and really liked the Mizuno JPX800HD, seem to get outstanding reviews although a little on the pricey side. AG advised me to go back in for a fitting.

I'm a little worried that if I do get custom fit for some new irons, that if I do manage to nail my swing down that they'll no longer be fit for purpose :(

Maybe it's an idea to take a few more lessons before taking the plunge.

Hi All! Probably will be posting in here a bit, different realise there was a golf thread until now :D

I wanted to ask about my swing. My swing is all over the place, but the major concern for me is that I'm hitting the ground before the ball by quite a distance and it's killing my consistancy.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing it? It's likely the downswing, but I just can't seem to fix it. This happens a lot more often with 6, 5 and 3 iron. My 7, 8 and 9 irons are generally pretty good and I don't suffer from the problem much with these.

On a side note I bought some Black Widow OVERSIZED grips for my clubs this weekend, so hoping this will assist me in my general game. Also found out the golf glove I had was too big for me and I'd be using it for a while. Strange changing from normal to oversized and found that I was gripping the clubs too hard, which was evident on the glove! Grips looks like:

Are you widening your stance too much? Sounds like you could be, especially if you strike the shorter clubs well. Try narrowing your stance a little and see if that helps.

Try this .........

Update from yesterday..

Hit the ball much better, but still a couple of 'duff' & 'fat' shots happening! Think the new grips are taking a bit of getting used to it as you don't have to squeeze as much.

Focused on weight transfer as per the website, which I was definitely not thinking about when playing shots. Narrowed the stance a bit and watched my head for any dip and it definitely helped. Was hooking it at first, but again I think that was adjustment to the grips.

Driving range tonight to work on the 'fat' hitting issue. Think I will try the drills from the website and hopefully eradicate this annoying problem :p

Try concentrating on keeping your head level. A common fault made by a lot of amatuers is their heads pop up slightly at the top of the backswing.

Have a look here at this slow mo of Bernhard Langers swing. Notice how relatively level his head stays throughout the swing.

Thanks for this, took a look before I hit the range last night.

So I identified the 1 problem that completely fixed my swing and I ended up hitting the ball almost perfect for 95% of my shots!

I looked at that video on the free-online-golf-tips website about the hands in front of the club at all times and really push through the shot... well it enabled me to hit it perfect for a lot of shots, tonnes of height and loads of distance! Amazing how 1 minor change can alter everything!

Thanks guys

Awesome :D

Went to AG today and got a few rude comments from the "salesman".
The top was "are you sure you could afford this club?", needless to say I didn't purchase anything.

Bear in mind I am fairly well spoken and was wearing golf gear after coming from golf, I was fairly surprised. I put it down to a general lack of intelligence.
He also claimed that tour pros are told not to hit their 3 woods' farther than their drivers' as it would destroy sales, but they all can.

Unfortunately it was Slough, last time I go to that branch.
