Played a foursomes scratch league knockout match today against the 7th lowest hancapped player in England today... he plays off +3 and we Lost 2&1.

Pretty pleased with that because we gave away a few holes with stupid shots and could have run it closer... but in honesty the guy always had a little extra up his sleeve. He was a pure gentleman with it and great company to play with.

Still great to pit yourself against the best and put up a good show...

This is why I love golf. Everyone is so friendly/helpful anywhere you go!

Went out today and although my score was'nt anything to write home about I did have a great time with the driver. As documented in this thread my weakness has been a slice, but today...
Used my driver 13 times and I hit 10 fairways. The ball was flying straight like an arrow from a bow :)

Snapped the shaft on my 8 iron last week and my local course cannot find a replacement shaft. Does anyone have a Wilson Di9 8 iron they no longer use?

Have you tried contacting Wilson?
A mate of mine had an issue with a Wilson Carry Bag and he said there customer service was excellent

Plenty of single DI9 irons on eBay.

I'm sure you could buy something like a 6 iron off there and just shorten the shaft slightly to suit.

EDIT - scratch that, apparently the only way to have them repaired is send them to Wilson. See this thread here... http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/273462-wilson-fat-shaft-replacement/

Yeah, def has to go back to Wilson... http://www.wilson.com/en-us/customer-service/

Asked instore at my local AG and they reckon it would cost between £35 - £40 to send the iron to Wilson and have it repaired
Not sure which way to go...Sell the irons as is and upgrade, or send the iron for repair.

Fantastic day out yesterday at this place

The Renaissance Club

It was a member and guest day that my boss had won in a charity auction - he couldn't go so asked me to take a couple of clients with me instead.

Arrived thru the massive gates that welcome you to the The Renaissance Club. Parked the car outside the temporary clubhouse and was greeted by one of the assistant pro's who lift my clubs and bags from the boot and straight onto a couple of electric trolleys.

He advised us where the lockers rooms where and where to go for breakfast. The temporary clubhouse was like nothing i've seen before - -amazing. Great breakfast - anything you could think of from full english, muffins, as much coffee as you could drink!

Anyway - after a good feed - lets head to the range! Fully stocked with pro v's - it was like something from the pro tour. Lovely pyramids of balls and the abaliay to just walk up and hit away down the 400 yard range!

A few practise putts on the largest green I've seen and we then got strarted at the 1st. Team event with best 2 stableford scores counting on each hole. Each team also had a yellow ball and that rotated between the players on each hole. If that ball was one of the 2 best scores then you got double points for that. If you lose it - that was it - no more double points.

Of course - in front of the crowd at the 1st tee - it was me who had to hit the yellow ball (awful tee shot - down the 2nd fairway - but hit a beauty of a 5 iron to the middle of the green for the 2nd shot and managed a good 2 putts for par)

Course was superb, green like lightning and very very undulating - very tricky. That's where Davie, our forecaddie came in - he was great - tell us the lines to putt on, where to hit from the fairway, all the yardages, what club to hit - a great laugh as well.

After a good team front nine - refreshements at the 10th tee - again amazing spread of food and drinks to take with you.

A poor start to the back nine ultimately cost us but the rest of the course was stunning - great views over the North Berwick coastline.

Finished 6th out of 22 teams - we managed to keep the yellow ball all the way to the end.

Another fantastic 3 course buffet lunch/dinner was had - all whilst the clubs and shoes where getting cleaned and placed back in the boot of the car.

From start to finish the staff were superb - courteous, helpful and wonderfully attentive. All in - a stunning day out and I can only hope to return again some day. I did swap numbers with one of the assitant pro's who said he should be able to get us on during the week sometime hopefully!

Only 198 members of which 90 or so are american. If anyone has a spare 75k they could lend me - that covers the initial debenture payment!

A decent round finally - strange hardly played in 4 weeks apart from wednesday there.

Lost a ball at the 1st and a ball at the 13th - 3 putted from about 50 ft at the last. 79 less 11 for 68 nett.

Playing off 11.0 so should get a 0.8 cut as CSS is normally 72

Cool, if you look at the shaft it should have a sticker on it which says who makes it.

Contacted Amer Sports who are the UK contact for Wilson. Anyway, they recommended American Golf in order to return the club for repair because "they dont deal with the public directly" After American Golf quoted between £35 - £40 they charged £25 when I took the club in to them

£25 sounds very reasonable for a proper manufacturer repair. Nice one :)

Oh and had a lesson tonight, been struggling a lot lately since trying to follow advice from friends (mean well I know, but still ) and suffering from horrendous amounts of shanks.

Anyway, results of lesson as follows:

1 - Distance from ball problems: Too close to the ball by half a ball on short irons and a full ball on long irons/woods
2 - Grip problems: Tiny bit too weak on the left hand and way way too weak on the right hand
3 - Backswing problems: Hinging the club too early, resulting in loss of natural arm extension

Having made the changes it really felt very very odd. In fact, so much so that the first dozen or so balls I hit were all shanks  However, once I realised how to work with the fixes I began striking the ball really well and ended up walking away a happy bunny :)

I've lost a little distance, but the pro advised that should come back once I am comfortable with all the changes, but like everything new, it will take some time to adjust. What I did notice before I left was that my driving was as good if not better than it has ever been and I was getting a really nice low penetrating flight with a little bit of draw - awesome!
