I managed an 84 last week, first time sub 85 in almost 2 years, so I was delighted, although it was somewhat blotted by a flaming 7 on a par 4!!

3 putted 4 times as well and duffed a chip, so really should've been looking at sub 80, which I have only ever managed once, almost 3 years ago now. But it's nice to get a good round under your belt :)

Well it appears I've finally run into a bit of form of late, it's only taken all season!

I got my first hole in one a couple of weeks ago in a league match :D

And then last weekend I won the September medal with this score.

Could have been so much better too, what with various missed birdie and par putts along with that triple on the 9th!

So after struggling for most of the season and briefly drifting up to 9 it's at least looking like I'm going to finish the year back at where I started, an 8 handicapper (8.2 to be precise). However it's higly unlikely I'm going to meet my target of 6! :o

Yeah 8.4 for me at the moment.

Doubles final a week on saturday so looking forward to that. Not many other chances to play the rest of the year with weekends away/kids stuff/stag/hen do's etc.

well i played my first proper competition on Sunday, after birdying the first i fell to pieces and shot 72 on the front  back nine was much better but it was still horrendous. want to play as much as possible this week as im in for hernia repair on thursday and will be out for a while.

on a lighter note my friend who started playing the same time as me 12 months or so ago won the comp with a net of 64 and a hole in one, im over the moon for him but he is going to be intolerable from now on :D

First ever game of golf on Friday on a par 3 I hit 101, I really enjoyed myself and will certainly go back!
I didnt get the "last hole was good to keep you coming back!" Front 9 where brilliant really didnt do to badly at all, nothing higher than a 6 the back 9 I went to pieces and hit quite a fews 9's.

Invested in a 58 degree wedge as a lot of my downfall was due to hitting the ball over the green when trying to chip on.

Safe to say Im hooked.

^ Glad to hear you've been bitten by the bug, but don't expect a 58 degree wedge to solve your short game problems. If anything it'll probably make it more difficult as they can be hard to hit consistantly.

I would strongly recommend a lesson with a local pro, preferably before you grind in any bad habits. Well worth the money in my own experience.

Absolutely this, it'll help massively with your technique. The short game is a git to master, it really is. After 20 years of playing i'm confident around the green finally and have hit some demon bunker shots lately! Not playing as much as I used to due to my grandad being very ill (only ever played with him) as I've got nobody else to play with and don't fancy strolling out on my own, need someone to push me :p

Im waiting for pay day, then im off to Hoebridge again :D

The lob wedge, tried hitting a friends and loved it, found it much easier than the SW/PW found one on ebay for £15 in my current set style, so worth a punt for that :)

Had another bizarre round - will post up the stats later, Handicap 8.

3 bogies to start. 9 straight pars after that, so still only 3 over after 12.

Then finish, bogie, bogie, par, triple bogie, par, triple bogie!

For a nett 74. Put my 2nd in the burn at 16th and lost a ball off the last tee (none of my playing partners could believe we didn't find it as no-one thought it was near the rough)

Still hit the ball well apart from 2 bad shots - Bring on the club doubles final on saturday!!!

Another round on the par 3 tomorrow at 1, looking forward to it again :D

took 11 shots off my first game on Sat with a 90 round the par 3, still think I could have taken another 5 or 6 off "easily" had I not made silly mistakes, all part of the game I suppose :P

Still, very happy!

lost the doubles final 4 & 2. Foursomes.

Never really at the races, level at halfway but lost 9,10,13 and 14 to be 4 down with 4 to play. Won 15 but then partner carved the tee shot at 16 into the burn off the tee.
