Granted, would imagine that's pretty rare however? I've played probably 20 courses around here, I don't think i've ever come across a Par 3 that long.

I have played a number of courses with long par 3's (and I mean 200yds+ from the yellow tees, so even longer from the usual white competition ones)

But check out the back tees for this course - Rockliffe Hall

Some par 5's that are well over 600 yards and a par 3 that is over 240 yards

Does anyone have any experience with either the Titleist RC11, OGIO Kingpin or OGIO Assassin?
Looking for a decent trolley bag for the days I cant face carrying and these seem to be top of my list so far.

Not got experience of those bags, but if you don't mind spending extra then this Adams bag is very nice. I didn't pay the full price for it as I had money for my birthday

Wouldn't fancy that too much, any loose drive and you're talking serious trouble.

I have only played there once but it is still a relatively 'young' course so you aren't punished too badly, unless you put it in the water, but the worst thing we found was the wind - the par 3 5th is only 160yds but due to the wind blowing against and slightly across a few people were hitting woods off the tee and aiming well left of the green to try and land it on there....only 1 person in our group managed to get away with not putting a ball in the water

Give it 10 years or so until the trees are more mature and it will be more of a challenging course

Played there a few times last year, if you missed the water you could really lash the nuts off it and afford to be a bit wayward. If you also remember the rule about being able to take a free drop if your ball goes into GUR (inside a blue line for protection of young trees) of which there is a lot then you can even lose balls without penalty! Haha.

5 off again yesterday so from never playing ive gone from a par 3 101 to 85 in 3 rounds, im happy with that :D Should have taken a lot more but had a mini crisis over 3 holes grrrr

What's the par of the course?

Sounds to me like you're ready for a proper course now :)

Par 3 so 54, need to learn how to drive as there are a few big'uns on the main, and I dont think irons will be enough!

edit

There is a 9 hole "inbetween" course so will certainly move up to that before the main, as 2 long par 4's will be a nice test to see if I am ready for the full 18 :D

Just had a lesson today for the first time in a couple of years. I've been struggling with a bit of a slice and general inconsistency with irons.
The outcome was that I'm slouched far too low in my swing and also throwing my left knee way too far right.
Once corrected consistency improved but it will take some getting used too. Think I need to work more on my core strength as I'm feeling it now!

Played the par 3 again on Sat, feel like its time to step up now Hopefully get a few rounds in before the temp greens come into effect.

Had a shocker over 2 holes, really nice approach shots both times and then fluffed the chip and shot the ball into a bunker and what seemed like a lake (waster logged bunker) first mess up really got in my head and the 2nd hole was almost certainly bad because of that. Recovered nicely along the back 9 which had always been bad to me before hand!

A very addictive game, maybe its just me being a complete perfectionist!

Well after years of intending to get into golf I've finally done it. It's taken 3 ops on the ankle to make me more or less give up football and follow my girlfriend's advice of playing more golf. She's now regretting it!

Started having lessons in May and am this week becoming a member of Macclesfield Golf Club :-)

I've already upgraded most of my stuff and can't stop looking at new shinies to buy! From shooting rounds of 130+ when I started in May I'm down to being disappointed if I don't achieve less than 100 and am playing off 19 according to Strokes. However I think that was distorted by one incredible round so I think I'm off about 22. So, in the bag:

Ping G20 10.5 driver
Callaway Big Bertha 5 wood
Ping G20 3 hybrid
Mizuno 3-SW MX-19 irons
Titleist SM4 gap wedge
Odyssey White Hot putter

Played Roman Road and the Montgomery at Celtic Manor a few weeks ago. Pity I chose the worst summer possible to get into the game!

Congrats on getting into the most frustrating game in the world!

I've not played Macclesfield, although I've heard it's got some pretty spectacular views. A few of us played The Tytherington Club a couple of weeks ago in a mens open. Not a bad course although very wet....

Yes, yes you did! Without doubt the worst summer I can remember for golf. Unfortunately this Summer combined with the dire economic climate we're all suffering has hit a lot of clubs hard. There's a couple of clubs local to me that are really struggling to stay afloat at the moment.

Contacted the eBay seller about my L-Wedge

"Very sorry I had a personal matter last week and it will be sent out today"

Thats all very well but I won it 2 weeks ago, So I asked if it could be sent first class rather than 2nd as I paid £6.50 for delivery and then he got all arsey about it, first real issue ive had with eBay...and it isnt really an issue, I just want my club so I can hopefully get a round in with it before the temp greens come into play.

Congrats [ASSE]Hinchy on starting properly down the road of the most infuriating game in the world! :D Would expect you may find your handicap going up above 22 initially as when playing club golf you'll be off the medal tee's, had a quick look at Macclesfield and it's 300yds longer from the Whites and the standard Scratch score is 1 shot harder, so would expect about 25.

I'm just in the process of filling my membership forms out for my first ever golf club next year, a place called Garforth in Leeds. Nice course and got an OK deal with it also. Currently play off 16 on golfshake, played here a few times and off the yellows i can usually do a low 80's and off the whites a mid/high 80's (highlights my trouble off the tee!). Getting excited!!

Played a course today that I hadn't played before, Hart Common in Westhoughton. Wasn't too impressed TBH, course was featureless and wide open. Glad I had a lesson on bunker play a few weeks back because I landed in greensides on the 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th  Managed to escape 3 of them without any problem, but I thinned one bunker shot and overshot the green, and another took 2 shots to escape, all good fun though.

Who is going to brave the elements and continue playing throughout the winter months? Providing its not too wet, nor icy I'll play whenever I can.

I'll be playing through the Winter, you've gotta keep the swing in check. In fact the first round of our Winter league starts this Saturday!
