Golf Thread

X14's (the ones before the X16's) were one of the best irons ever made. I've not hit X16's, but the legacy is there for a very good club.

The only complaint I have now having moved on several levels in my game is that I find I couldn't work the ball left or right as much, and they didn't quite have the legs my MP67's had. I'm sure you will enjoy them quite a lot :-)

Well they had there pluses and minuses. I was managing to nail them a good distance further than my old Blackcats. However I was struggling to get a decent accuracy with them, maybe something I will work out with practice. If I can get used to pushing them in the right direction, I'd imagine they will knock of 5 or so shoot off a round.

Callys are designed to get the ball into the air and heading it the right general direction (made for mid to high handicappers who have bother getting the ball into the air), accurate, they are not unfortunately. A good compriomise is the Titleist AP1 range, I use the AP2s and play of 7.8 at the moment, was down to 6 a good few years ago playing with Mizuno Pro 2's before giving it up but have been back playing club golf for a few years again and wouldnt change my titleists.

After posting on MickeyFinns thread (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18451191) on GD, I thought some intrepid golfers on here might fancy this one...

I posted on this thread some time ago about suggestions for new clubs (thanks everyone). Unfortunately golf has been stop/start for me because of a neck and then a knee injury but finally managed to get out on the range with my new RBZ irons on Sunday. They've been sitting there for three weeks mocking me and finally my knee was up for trying them out. I'm hopefully playing on Saturday so looking forward to getting out there finally!

Have to be honest, I found them to be very accurate. Because they didn't work the ball left or right that well I felt it made straight shots easy to strike. Just felt a bit dead compared to a modern cavity, and certainly a Muscle Back blade (MP67) - agree entirely though that they are a mid handicapper club, great for gaining confidence, and thus bringing that handicap down... :-)

A bit of an update as this thread is slipping down the pages:

Spain trip

Played a week fo golf in Spain. Stayed at Almenara golf hotel and played all the courses and then 1 round at La Duquesa.

The Almenara courses are made of up of three loops of 9, i.e. to play 18 you pick two.
The hotel was easily hitting above its 4star rating, the rooms are mini houses with their own terraces overlooking the valley. You get to you mini house via a cobbled "street" so you can drive your golf cart up to your front door to put your clubs in.

The courses are very well kept (as most are in Spain). It is rated as the second best resort in Costa del Sol behind La Cala. We also managed to sneak into Valderamma and saw the range but unfortunately couldn't play it due to the expense. I would recommend Almenara to anyone looking to play lots of golf. I would recommend a resort nearer Marbella for someone who wants to go out big in the evening as the area was a bit quiet (even for the off season).

My best score was a 7 over through the hardest 9 including a triple on the last day.

La Duquesa was pretty average, nice course but backed onto the A7 which is a fairly busy road and spoilt the experience somewhat.

Club update

Pre-Spain I switched out my Mizuno fli-hi 4 iron for a TM Burner Superfast 2 rescue 4 iron which I find much much easier to hit. I get a nice high flight and average carry of 180yards off the deck so it is very useful.

Now need to sell my Mizuno CLK and think about a 5 wood/ 2 iron replacement.

Slow motion camera

Also just bought a high speed camera (Casio EX FH100) to take videos of my swing over the winter and generally make sure everything is in good shape.

1:54 shows Paidraigs swing in slowmotion and what it is capable of. Anyone in the Windsor area is welcome to join us for a range session if they want to have a go.

Winter

What are everyones' plans over winter?

I ventured up to Donegal yesterday to play Portsalon with a couple of mates. First time playing it, 15 quid inc entry into the open comp running. Very hard to beat value like that considering the course was in such good condition as it always is according to my mates though that said it is a links course after all.
Second hole is a cracker 480 yards par 4 with a carry over the beach and second shot to carry over the burn to the green. Excellent signature hole. Parred it too with driver and 8 iron :). Great course in fantastic surroundings, if yiu are in Donegal to play some weekend, take in Ballyliffin, rosapenna and Portsalon, you wont be disappointed.

Looks like a bit of a scam site to me. Let me know if you get anything.

The address is "London, UK"

and the contact email address is a gmail account.

No chance it is legit. The fact that they sell Ping equipment at near half price is a dead giveaway, as Ping are extremely selective on who they allow to even have stock of their gear.

Answer irons are £199 compared to £879 on American Golf too. Definitely a scam site, and if you actually do receive something it will be fake.

I took the sport up about a year ago from fresh, currently full membership at knighton heath in dorset

handicap 18
swing speed with driver 105-110 measured by ping last year
in the bag
g15 driver serrano stiff shaft
g15 4 wood serrano stiff shaft
i15 3iron hybrid tfc stiff
4-U i15 irons stiff awt shaft
tour s 56 degree wedge
karsten ansr putter

As you can tell got a ping thing going on, as said only been playing a year but missed a lot of summer due to other commitments and only get out once a week in winter cause of bad light, oh well theres always next year

Got my first video with the high speed camera

Known faults:
Over swing
Static lower body on down swing
Slightly across line at top.

Your back swing is quite good, big issue is that you are casting out on the downswing and not retaining any lag in your wrists - I have the same gremlin ;)

This should help

Thanks, yeh I cast when I am swinging badly like above. It causes the flap on the follow through as well.

First thing I want to stomp on is to stop overswining.
then lower body
then follow through
then lag

it is going to be a long winter :D
