Played 12 holes on Wednesday evening, Really pleased with my iron play, managed to drive a Par 4, but my short game was appalling. I seem to have developed a consistent shank with my chip shots. Even though everything was a disaster within 20ft of the pin the bit I'd been working hard on (iron shots) was great , so I'm happy.

More work to do!

I'm pitching and putting very well but my irons seem to want to pull left frequently and my drives are a heavy draw.

Had a round today and the wind was insane. A small squall blew in for 10 minutes and almost took me off my feet. I had a chance to measure my drive from yesterday. 350 yards give or take a couple lol. There was a strong wind behind me today but I pulled the drive left about 310 with zero run. It's fine hitting it far but I lost another ball off the tee today so really its not helping my scoring!

Good drill to help iron out a draw is to go down the range with a headcover under your right armpit. swing back and thru making sure it stays there until you get to your full finish :)

Played on the par 3 at the weekend with a few mates for my birthday. Up to the green I was hitting it really well. Then it all went to pot. Could not putt to save my life. 3 putted almost everything. Appalling.

Managed to play 3 times over bank holiday, scratch matchplay on Saturday morning, lost the first 3 holes, managed to at least make a game of it, getting back to 1 down but eventually lost 3&2 in the end to one of our scratch team members (2 handicapper) so happy with that really.

Then played on Sunday morning in one of our memorial tournaments, 120 entered, and for the first time since being a member at CBGC I absolutely tonked it round in +1 (72) wining with 41 points which was just awesome... made the scratch team captain take notice as well which was my main goal for the season. Despite the sunshine, it was a fairly windy day and any score close to your handicap isn't bad going around Crowborough.

Got to have a think about what to spend my winnings on now in the pro shop!

Finally forked out for a PowaKaddy this week - with the various niggles I have with my shoulders, and the fact I don't play as often as I like, I'm hoping it will make a decent difference to the 2nd half of a round :-)

Does anyone have a putter they swear by? It's never been something I've spent much (any!) money on - I can understand the tech in a decent set of woods and irons, but a lot of the putter stuff sounds more like snake oil, or does getting the "right one for you" really make that much of a difference?

2 Ball Odyssey putter works great for me. Making a practice putt above the ball leaves a white tracer of the markings on the putter and it helps me figure out if I am aiming in the right place.

Scotty Cameron - end of.

Costly but I've had the same one for 6/7 years now and it's the only club I NEVER see me changing in my bag.

I have two putters at the moment, an old Ping Anser and one that's a lot lighter - I'm generally using the lighter one but I might try the heavier one and see if that's any better/worse.

Couple of weeks ago I signed up to The home of the Ryder cup for £400 till the end of March 2014, finally committed to a course and my play has got better. Last 3 scorecards are 107, 104, 102 so definitely improving. Really need to get my driver under control but today hit some 270 - 280 yard drives and quite straight shocker! My putting has vastly improved as well mainly 2 putting holes occasional 3 but yeah that'll get better. Aiming to play about twice a week up there which with the summer coming will be quite easy. If anyone wants to come for a round if you are in the Weymouth / Dorchester area give me a shout on trust and I can get you in for £20 as a guest :)

Played in my first medal of the year on Saturday. Played on friday to get my swing back in order as i hadt played for a while, managed to shoot 89 (SSS 71) which included playing the 2 par 5's in +4 each......! :0 So i was hopeful of a good result. Off the tee in the medal i was shocking, topping it, slicing, snap hooking, i ended up playing the round out and sticking in the card, but a 110 gross/92 nett left me propping up the leaderboard.

Dont know what folks think, but my mates were all telling me to just NR the round (like a few others had done) so it didnt show up, personally i think people should put in all the scores, good and bad.

Anyway, birthday has just been and gone and as it was the big 4-0 the wife has offered to buy me some new irons. Saturdays round has me wondering if they would be worth it!! :D

I would go for lessons before new irons :)

I had a Newport 1.5 for 3 or 4 years. Got rid of it though as I needed a face balanced putter for my straight back and straight through putting stroke.

I've now got a cheap and cheerful Cleveland CC 5.5 centre shafted mallet, complete with an ultra slim Super Stroke grip.

I've learnt that as far as putting goes it's all about feel and not necessarily how much it costs.
Who can forget Todd Hamilton winning The Open with a $50 Ping putter he got out of the bargain bin!

That's my concern with putters really, I can try a club out at the range and hit 20-30 balls with it and I'm quite happy picking the right club, but not so sure I'll get the same with trying putters out on a practice mat as it's not really that good of an indication and I don't really want to keep swapping for swapping sake :)
