Anyone here doing the Macmillan longest day golf challenge? 4 rounds of golf in 1 day!

Did it last year, raised about 1600 quid, was about 6am start and finished about 7pm with 30 mins for lunch. Top tip, sort out your clubs and take a half set each in 2 bags and 2 trolleys, save lugging 4 sets.

Did you just do the one course? Thanks, i will bare that in mind, will have to play along side another lefty though! the question is... did you get better or worse with all that practice?

Yeah just the one. Too much hassle to do 4 different ones as I was the only driver and a lot of clubs weren't interested despite being for charity

The course my dad is a member at are doing no green fees to anyone doing the challenge, including non members. As long as the weather picks up it should be a good day

Played Yesterday, got woken up at 7:15 after a few beers and my dad telling me I was playing part of a foursome at 8:45 due to one of his friends having a bad back.

Hole number 1.....13!
After that it got much better, only the 3rd time I had played a full course and shot 126, last time was 142 so quite a big difference. got a few pars but some terrible driving and 2 OOB's (both by a matter of inches) killed me.

Lessons booked.

Played Royal Birkdale yesterday. Being set up for the senior open and was in great nick, though the greens were a little on the slow side for my liking. Managed to shoot my handicap which was kind of happy with, though I dropped an easy 6 shots on the 17/18 to bust my handicap (9 iron shank for my 3rd shot into 17 resulted in an 8, I'd been hitting most greens to about 10ft a putting was good, so potential birdie. Then 3 putted the last from 10ft for a 6!!!).

Off tomorrow to my local American Golf ( an hour or so away ) to get myself a driver and possibly a recovery wood. Been looking at That Offer and I may as well go up there to try it out on their indoor range. While there might get some more Srixon AD-333's as I'm running a little low on them after the last week or so. Anyone got any other idea on what drivers I could get? Don't really want to go over £250.

Snainton Golf have an offer at the moment.

Buy the new Callaway Xhot Driver and get a free Xhot hybrid of your choice. That would fall under your budget and appears to be right up your street! Saw it pop up on my Facebook news feed today. You should all follow them on there if you're on it. You see quite a few deals.

Offer can be seen here on their website. At the bottom of the custom fitting options there is a special offers field. Click that to choose the free club.

Generally always cheaper than American Golf :)

As said above though, hit a selection at American Golf first to see what you like.

I am a high handicap player as well should have said that :P So gonna head up there and have have bash around and see what I like the feel of :) Ideally I want to get it all tomorrow so I might quote Snainton Golf and try and wrangle a discount :P

We were talking about the x hot deal on Monday, the guys I was playing with we're all ravig about how much if a bargain it was with the free hybrid, 3 are golf pro's and were very surprised Callaway were doing it when it was such a good club anyway, probably more to do with trying to take sales from taylormade with the rbz which is just outstripping all other driver and fairway/hybrids at the moment.

Anyone know a good place in the south east to get properly fitted for some some woods? I'm a low handycap and hit the ball pretty hard so need x-stiff(custom?) shafts but there are so many to choose from I want to try a few before splashing out. From what I can tell American golf and Direct golf only do "off the rack"?

Wentworth have some good facilities, you can usually go onto the main websites of the big names and find a place that will do a few manufacturers through their fitting centres.

this - check most manufactures websites as they will list demo days/fitting centres etc.

Titliest for instance

St Ives (Hunts) Golf Club, St Ives, Cambridgeshire, England
- Kings Acre Golf Club, Lasswade, Midlothian, Scotland
- G.U.I National Academy at Carton House, Maynooth, County Kildare, Ireland
- The Celtic Manor Resort, Newport, South Wales

etc

Cheers for that...

Seems to be hard to find a place to try clubs that doesn't involve a simulator. I'm never sure how much faith to put in those things. I'm sure they're very accurate but you just can't beat seeing the ball in the air.

After going to my local AG store and trying out a Callaway X hot driver, Titliest 913D2, Callaway Razr X Black and a Taylormade Rocketballz. Ended up getting the Taylormade and the matching 3 wood for £250 next up.. Save for irons.
