Drive re-gripped......
WHAT
A
DIFFERENCE

I do not know why I waited so long, was very difficult to hold/grip now it is effortless. really nice :) May get the rest done over a few months, cant really take the hit for £90 on grips that I dont really need.

Keep an eye on the American Golf website, I picked up 12 Golf Pride VDR grips for £1 each a couple of weeks ago.

Also you chaps should do your own regripping , very easy to do.

These Tour 360's are quite a nice looking pair of shoes. Was looking at them a few years back. Instead waited and last year whilst in Florida brought a white pair and a black pair of the TW 13 shoes. Best shoes I have ever had so comfy.

well........?

You were right :p The front 9 wasn't too bad but the back 9 we had to play past maintenance teams on 6 of the 9 holes.

The greens were pretty inconsistent throughout as well.

It was great to have been able to play there though before the Ryder Cup next year. I can imagine it would be a fantastic course to play in top condition and will be very jealous of them when they do.

A few of the par 4s were a little long for me and my fade/slice drive. I really lose too many yards off the tee to stand a chance with those holes. Managed to get around in 95 but it would have been over 100 had I note have parred the last 3 holes.

All in all, still a great experience to have played the hole but could have been much better.

I just had a brand new set of DG S400 sensicore shafts fittwed to my Titleist AP2 heads, new Tour Velvet grips, some of the cheapest grips around been about years and still the best for my money. Cant wait to get out tomorrow evening for their first run out.

Regarding shoes, I'm not a great fan of Adidas shoes anymore especially after my pair of Sambas split on me last year!

For this Summer I bagged these,

Last years model, but at the bargain price of £69.99!

Still got a pair of black Ecco Hydromax for the Winter.
Eccos are without doubt one of the comfiest golf shoes available imo, although these Pumas so far are proving to be pretty good.

Can anyone recommend a driver for a relative newbie?

Got some vouchers from work to use with American Golf, can probably go to about £80. Maybe more if there's a good deal on.

£99 - Please be aware I am a newbie myself and am only going on reading lots, have only played 3 full rounds on the "big boy courses"

edit

Also maybe this @ £89

Steel shaft so less flex and more control.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not sure on the adjustable head thingybob, I'd end up with it set badly :p

Never heard of Benross. They any good?
Cheaper end of the scale but do still get the occasional nod of approval from the mags. Similar sort of standing to MD though MD make fantastic wedges.

Seems everyone from motors is coming here now :p

Gilly - honestly you're better off not bothering with one if your starting out. Best to practice with a 5iron in my opinion and until your comfortable with that, then get some some woods.

As above, If you do decide to get one though, go for a high loft angle, say 12.5

Initially I'd join the nay Sayers and go don't bother, but there's nothing more satisfying than striping a drive down the centre of the fairway 200+ yards! Your young enough to have the mobility needed to get through the ball, just make sure you get lessons to help along.

Personally I'd look at second hand G10/15 or Titleist 909/910 drivers, For that price, I know you can't use the vouchers on eBay, but there's plenty of golfers who will buy the vouchers off you to use.

If you want a game give me a shout, I play at Garforth so not a million miles away from you, could make it a 'work' outing :D

I've got another voucher for a couple of lessons but I wanted to take a driver with me so I could be sure on technique.

I was offered a Ping G15 for £60 before I knew what was what and because I'd seen the price of clubs at Sports Direct I thought that was a lot.

Seems I was mistaken!

Will call into AG and see if they have anything second hand. I'm sure they'd take vouchers for them.

That's a good price. My dad uses that driver and gets on with it well, but then he's a 10 handicap
