and just like that. Email back from Scottsdale Golf, they've added x 2 dozen ProV1 to my order which will be delivered with the clubs. Great customer service

That's very impressive....Great service indeed.

remember you get 5% or so cashback with topcashback as well....

Jamgolf do 9.9% and found them very good.

Lead time was supposedly around 25 working days. Shafts/grips due in on the 8th October (ordered on 2nd Oct) - so roughly around now should be but will chase them on Friday and get them to call Mizuno hopefully.

Then wait till around March/April for new SM9's and test them against the T22's for a 54 & 58 wedges to complete the bag.

How do I go about the cash back? haven't seen that before!

So fingers crossed the clubs should be with you soon. Having new toys to play with is exciting. Be interesting to see your numbers with the new clubs. Hopefully you'll see a consistent improvement

Never used cashback?!?! WHAT - you monster

I make about £500 a year minimum.

Sign up to topcashback, everytime you go to purchase something, check topcashback (or quidco is the other one) - then just follow the link on cashback website to the place your buying from. buy as normal and usually fairly quickly you get notification of cashback in your account. Depends on the provider/insurance company/ website etc how much they pay back.

Take driver purchase recently. Ping g425, same price everywhere basically. However went to topcashback, Jamgolf offering 9.9% cash back. Go via topcashback to jamgolf, it tracks my purchase and within a couple of hours, topcashback account is showing a "pending payment" of £39.50, becomes payable about a month later. No brainer.

Scottsdale as well for golf.

Currently got about £300 I can withdraw to my bank account from just buying stuff I was buying anyway!

Ball Fitting with Titleist on Friday just past.

Horrendously windy, freezing cold.... It's was interesting, again love my stats (the geek in me) - So asked about my game, ball I generally play (pro v1 normally) and what I was looking for. Also since it was the same place I got fitted, he built up a 7 iron and a 4 iron in my "new" spec so we could use that as no point using existing ping clubs if I'm changing shortly.

Hit loads of balls (range ones) - and the trackman data compensates for the data on the various titleist balls etc - Now this is where he admits it does "fail" as you don't get to hit 10/15 pro v's/prov1x/avx/prov 1x left dash etc - He said it would be great to be able to do that but with 10 people booked in, say hitting 20/25 balls that 250 pro v's lying down the range somewhere!! Also the "feel" doesn't really get tested either.

so whilst I took the "recommendation" with a pinch of salt as there was no actual hitting of the balls, it was interesting.

Ultimately it was actually recommended for me to play AVX. Reasons being - still soft feel (which I like) but it's the lowest spinning of the 4 premium titleist balls, which will bring my flight down a little more but still spins on the shorter shots and feels soft. He said the only way you get to "properly" test the balls is the main Titleist performance centre at Woburn.

Got a nice Team Titleist Mug from it so not all bad! - I've got about 40 prov's that I'll use up and might give the AVX a go at some point.

Aside from that - chased up my Mizuno irons - still no sign, and heads now out of stock till mid December! - Unlikely to see them this year....

Seems strange you were using range balls on a ball fitting!! to me that gives you no real data at all.

Annoying about the new clubs. Fingers crossed they arrive soon.

I had my lesson on Friday morning. Very interesting indeed. Found with my driver my back swing was really flat and then I'd massively come over the top.

Also with my irons, I was swinging too deep and then coming over the top.
Difficult to watch the flight of the ball as there was a 30 yards left to right wind so pushed the ball a lot. but with trackman normalised it made more sense.

Few fixes to work on before the next lesson. but now I know where I was going wrong I know what I need to work on

I've mostly played AVX since they came out because I heard they would lower my ball flight which is naturally high.

The above link is to a giant robot test done with premium balls. There is a chart where you can put in your swing speed (high, mid, low) pick a club (8 iron, driver, wedge) and see the data for the ball. For an 8 iron and mid swing speed, the AVX has the highest peak height

However, I have still been using the (yellow) AVX because my subjective perception is that the AVX is very stable in windy weather. Just recently bought a box of Titleist Tour Speed which are 3/4 of the price but seem very decent.

This is really interesting. Didn’t know different balls had so much of an effect!

i think at my newbie level, any ole ball is decent for me right now, else it’s a bit steep in the pocket with the quantity of balls I lose, especially during these months with the leaves situation.

Maybe next year I’ll start switch out my balls and see how it goes.
Do any of you switch balls depending which hole ur playing? Eg. Par3 vs par5

I don't switch if I can avoid it. If you are a beginner, the ball is not particularly important as your swing is probably too variable for the ball to matter much. As you get better, control around the greens and on full approach shots start to matter and having a single ball in play means you can at least expect the ball to behave consistently.

The biggest no-no on balls is something I see often with golfers standing on the tee of a par 3 over water. "Time to play a lake ball :D " I hear time and time again. This is bad for two reasons:

1) the golfer is expecting to go in the water
2) lake balls are proven to be affected by their stay under water with a typical 10% reduction in performance making it even more likely to go back to its watery grave

Play whatever balls you find or can afford. Beginners lose so many balls, cost is important. If you're lucky enough to lose no more than a ball or two in your round, play with better ones.

Funnily enough the "winter ball" the Titleist guy suggested was the Tour speed ball. I said I tend to go with AD333 srixons or something like that in the winter time.

Like I say - got 30/40 Prov's knocking around and they will come into play again in the spring time so not going to change anything just now.... Will have a tinker at some point.

Same as above - no don't switch balls at all. Even play off 8.8 handicapp, I like to stick with a single ball/make mainly for feel around the greens and putting. I hate anything with a clicky sound so softer the better for me

Decent but semi cheap ball is the AD333 Srixon - get some "decent" 2nd hand ones from ebay or local facebook groups. Mate of mind who just start last year plays with these and likes them as you can get 24 balls for around £18/£20 etc so good quality ball but not madly expensive. As above again - avoid anything that says "lake" balls.

Another good ball I found was the Titleist Velocity. Great feel and ball flight. Cheap too when you're starting golf.

I have mostly played the above for a long time. I then changed to Callaway Chrome Soft truvis (after finding one). Loved the feel and flight but then for some reason they stopped making them so switched to Bridgestone XS. For me this is my sweet spot. Also have 24 Pro V1 as they are so similar it's very difficult to tell them apart. Played proV1 around Celtic Manor and enjoyed every moment with them. They are a luxury ball at £45 but they do the job tbh

The MyGolfSpy test showed that with Titleist balls you do get absolutely consistent quality. Some of the other manufacturers (particularly those that don't have their own factories) can have an inconsistent centre of mavity/

I usually use TP5x/ProV1x in the summer, winter time for me is either the Titleist Trufeels or some Velocity balls.

Bogey golf in the winter, it's hard enough trying to play to my HC in perfect conditions!

Tiger might have wrecked his leg but he's obviously being working out the top half! Damn - Bryson got some company now....

Nice to see him back and smiling again....
