Golf Thread

Todays LV interviews were awkward. They all seem slightly embarrassed when they was getting called out for taking the money.

I've no great morale issue with them taking the money - but just say that....

Hate this "grow the game" / "unique opportunity " garbage they are coming out with..... Just say that it's more money than I could turn down.....

Rumours are that as soon as a ball is struck at 2.15pm tomorrow - PGA Tour will issue lengthy bans/suspensions and the Masters will follow suit.

Also that Bryson /P Reed and Rickie are going to LIV at the next event.

It does come across as super cheesy at the moment and kind of made up as they go along..... the teams / draft thing are just awful. The "clip art" team designs etc

Team "Smash" - Sihwa Kim, Scott Vincent, Jinichiro Kozuma and Itthipat Buranatanyarat.....

Seriously who???

But I guess with no cut and around $125k for last place - why wouldn't you go across and try it for a year or two as a relative unknown/journey man pro.

McDowell’s “we’re golfers not politicians” made me cringe. It’s the most ridiculous excuse ever. You don’t have to be a politician to stand up for what’s right.

I've only seen some highlights from the press conference but OMG it's so cringe worthy.

The level at which this golf event is being billed is simply embarrassing. You only need to look at the team names to know it's a billionaires play toy without a clue on how professional golf should conduct itself. Those who have signed up are after a last minute payday as they know they won't win on tour again

There are a few signing up now that actually can still win though. DJ and Bryson for example.

I think more top names will follow, which will ultimately hurt golf in my opinion. Splitting the talents across 3 tours now won't do viewing figures any favours.

PGA Tour have suspended the 17 players playing in the sportwashing event.

No surprise - no other option really.

Watched 5/10 minutes of LIV - broadcast/scoring is fairly competent, production is good on Youtube.

Aside from that - all the build up and crazy antics/will they/won't they was the excitement..... Not that bothered about the actual golf....

If professional sport had even an ounce of integrity I would have more sympathy for the likes of PGA tour. They are all out almost entirely for money. The athletes are the same. Just own up to it and say you don't give a ****. World cup is being played in a country with a horrible human rights record. Formula one goes to plenty of abhorrent countries. Its all about money.

Won my tie tonight 6&5. Forward tees so apart from 1st and 5th, I hit 3 wood off the rest of the longer holes and hit it very well. Putted well as usual. Giving 6 shots away so pretty happy to win so convincingly.

Driver has been very very erratic recently so the 3 wood was the better play - keep it in play. But I don't want to start the slippery slope of hardly using driver! Fine balance I guess. Also being the forward tee's I could get away with it tonight.

Anyway - Tuesday next week for Club Champs KO starting - I'm seeded Number 1 playing Number 16 qualifier.... Might try and get a few holes on Sunday some time and see if I can find anything with the driver

Get back to half swings on the range, and work on getting longer throughout the session...

Had to walk off the course earlier. Lone player but still taking over 2 ½ hours just to get through 9 holes. Constantly waiting on every hole and fairway.
No etiquette to allow through.
Made a complaint to the pro in the clubhouse after but with no marshalling how do you fix it

Got two free tickets to the LIV event tomorrow thanks to Ian Poulters give away, looking forward to watching some, hopefully, good golf.

Not interested for the after party and all the associated "Americanised" crap there but going to take my old man and see what's doing.

Andy Ogletree finishes last in the LIV tournament, 31 shots behind the winner Schwartzel (+24) and picks up $120,000 for that, tripling his lifetime earnings on the PGA tour. You'd be bonkers not to join that if you're a journeyman and get invited.

Totally get it for people like that - 100%

Rumours that even the standard 10% win fee the caddie picks up which is usually paid by the player, was infact funded by LIV... So Schwartzel's caddie got $475k from LIV, not from the player. Caddies were treated like players all week - all travel, food, accommodation etc was funded by LIV according to online reports.

Crazy amount of money thrown at this - Will be interesting to see how the American press get stuck into the players at the first event over there in a few weeks time.

I read that about the treatment of caddies too and tbh I'm glad they're being treated well. Looking at the value of assets that the Saudi backed group has, it's all chump change to them.

It's difficult isn't it really. I watched very little of the LIV event but what I did watch it felt like an AM AM round with very little spectators, a not very spectacular course and no tradition of the game giving it the hype.

Whilst right now I'm sat glued to the Canadian Open, the fans, the players, the rivalry. It has it all.
For me no amount of money in the world can replicate that

I watched a fair bit of the LIV coverage on Thurs/Fri and found it pretty uninteresting. The final day of the Canadian Open on the other hand was riveting with perhaps artificially low scoring but it was very exciting.

Mcllroy, Thomas and Finau were on form from the start.

Rose had an amazing round too. Just so competitive from the start. I hope the American Open is as exciting this weekend

Rose - 60 with 3 bogies!

Great final round at RBC - the whole shotgun start thing at LIV does condense the action but you get no "feel" for the ending/build up etc.

US Open looks brutal.

Great videos on RGC channel - Can a single digit handicapper break 90?

Competition question:
Texas Scramble rule - putting out.

I was in a random comp with my club last weekend, we were a 4 ball and we were on the green.
One person putted it to an inch. He marked it and picked it up.
I said he should just hole it and that could be our maximum for the round. (a 2-putt)
He disagreed and said it has to be played in order, otherwise the rest of the players wouldn't have a chance to take their putt and the hole would be over if he popped it into the hole.

My brain was fried.
To help with the pace of play, surely if there's rule that prevents that, I'd be gobsmacked. What do your clubs say about this type of thing?
