Golf Thread

Tempted to head to American Golf this afternoon and see what ex-demo drivers they have so I can finally get shot of the hellish thing I have now.

Might do the same. I'm using an old Donnay Slammer and it's absolutely atrocious. I don't have the fastest club head speed but even so, the Donnay turns to spaghetti.

Apparently they have had some crazy cheap deals.
Mate of mine got the 2022 Cobra Forged Tec copper irons for £489 instead of £900, and that's 4 iron down to pitching wedge. He said they've got loads of ex-demo clubs that still have the wrappers on the head - I had my eye on one of the Cobra drivers which are down to £180, again, still wrapped up. Hopefully they've got some left when I head!

I'd imagine the sales are the same nationwide but some of the prices I've seen here are insane for a club that's effectively brand new and sealed.

For £180 you could use it for 6 months and still get most of that back on ebay!! I would be totally tempted were it not for the fact I can't hit a driver yet and really want to get something fitted for me in due course so that I know it is right for me.

I'd be selling my old driver as well which could probably recoup quite a bit of the cash as well. Most of the ones they have in store seem to be around the £180 to £220 mark.

Check your emails too if you have an American Golf card. The 10% off emails went out this morning too, although whether they can be applied to sale items I'm not sure.

That seems like a pretty good deal...

This was at American Golf right? Might try and pop in tomorrow before playing a round at those prices :p

Yeah, it was! No harm in going for a look - got some really good deals on pretty much everything. Almost picked up a new 52 and 56 wedge as well but they didn't have any that were an inch longer, probably going to have to go for a fitting in a couple of months.

at £599 it's a no from me

That's fair, kinda crazy prices...

Keep going back and forward about new clubs/fitting, seems a no brainer on the one hand but if I wanted to get say a Driver, Fairway Wood and a Hybrid or two it's gonna be up near £1500 at these prices, that's a bit mental.

About £529 once it hits stores according to a couple of Youtubers. Even so, still way out of my range even if I needed it.

Booked a PXG wood fitting in a couple of weeks whilst it is free and prices are low.

I do agree it looks lovely but some of these prices are just silly high. Especially for just one club.

£1500 isn't too bad though. My breakdown in clubs last year as I've been fitted for all new is in the region of £2300. Minus selling of old clubs I've spent about £1700.
T100s Irons - £1100
LTDX-LS Driver - £399
LTDX Hybrids 3+4 - £398
Vokey SM9 Wedges - £449

Whilst the prices look high. The last time I'd properly upgraded was over 7 years ago. So if I keep these for a similar period it's a cost of £27pm. Less than a round of golf.

I was talking more it'd probably be £1500 without irons or wedges, so add another £1500 for them it seems, and some for a putter, £3k+ which is a little crazy :p

I'm kinda expecting the other drivers/brands to adopt the same pricing, at least initially...

that's excellent. Which version?
Did you hit it first?
Just the standard LTDx.

Only on a sim - they don't have a range at my local store but the guy in the shop said they've got a return policy if it's not really for me so not the end of the world. Was hitting it pretty straight most of the time - the mis-hits seemed to have turned into more of a safe cut than a slice which is helpful. Taking it to the range tonight to see what it's really like, I'd imagine I'll get on better with it seeing as I'll actually have my golf gear on and not a pair of skinny jeans with full pockets and a pair of converse! :D

Yes I imagine they will.

Personally, because last years models were so good. Cobra, Stealth etc I would look for a deal on those as prices have plummeted.

Also some of last years Irons are also being slashed. I reckon you could find everything all in for £1500

Yeah the difference in clothing does help. Especially shoes.

The club is quite adjustable and placing the driver into STD Draw would help with the miss rights

Yeah, closer to the time, thinking March/April, I'll talk to my local shop with fitting, they seem to show a cost of £25 (maybe 'per club'?) for fitting which is then deducted if or when you buy. If I can get a fitting for a general idea of what type of club/shaft/lie angles etc then go either last gen on sale or second hand but with a better idea of what I should be going for.

Decided not to go to the American Golf before the round today, partially cause my bed was comfy :p but also partially because I felt I should just keep practicing/playing with the clubs I've got for now, new clubs might be shiny but they're not gonna change too much...

But the game! Weather was lovely really, bit windy towards the end. I hadn't played that course (Signature at Woodlands, the 'easy' one :p) for a good while, since before Christmas and my record was 115, par is 70 so 45 over.

Today I scored 106! 9 shots better than my best, and I didn't just play consistent, had some awful shots in there but also some great shots, so happy with that overall :D

I think part of it was the playing partners, just the two of us today and without any of the impatient ones so it was a really relaxed, chilled round and just felt 'better'...
