I'm heading to Three Hammers American Golf tomorrow for a Driver Fitting. Curious to how the hype around the new Cobra and Callaway hold up against my current driver.

I'll bet very little improvement. Always fun to hit new drivers as I did a few weeks ago - Maybe a few yards here in extra distance - but for amateurs get them to look at the dispersion of the shots - NOT the distance - way more important.....

Have fun

exactly why I'm going. I want consistency not distance. I don't mind having 20 yards between shots as long as each shot is in the fairway

This was pretty cool new bit on the coverage the other night.

Max Homa talking though his hole/play/clubs etc - Not a walk and talk about kids/golf but an actual proper discussion about his thoughts in the middle of the hole. Really enjoyable and hopefully more of this to come.

I do have a man crush on Homa mind you - he's such a nice guy, funny, brilliant on twitter, and a golf game that's on fire just now.

I liked that. Need more of this

Why clean your ball every time before a putt guys? Is it because mud on the ball can affect the path of it?
Another advantage is that you get to see if your ball is in any sort of pitch mark (which you can repair, if you are), which can severely effect how the ball starts on its line. You don't want it bobbing as soon as you hit it, the quicker you can get it moving smoothly the better.
This was awesome, agree, more of this please!

Looking at Open Days for this season.
I can see a bunch of them locally, but I don't see anywhere for prizes. Does anyone know what kind of prizes you get for winners of these types of tourneys?
They seem to fill up fast, so whatever the prize is, it must be good :)

Usually up to about £100 for opens, due to amateur's status and all that.

I know our clubs open is generally -

£100/£75/£50/£25 for 1 to 4th in 3 categories - Scratch/0-10 then /10 - 24 handicaps.

Local opens around here fill up fast as it's a great way to play other courses for very cheap. Signed up for one near me last night - £65 for a round normally on a saturday, Open comp - £15. Even if you don't play well, it's £15 for a round of golf.

Got Dundonald booked for May (Texas Scramble) - £200 for the 4 ball (£50 each) - never going to win anything as the scores are usually ridiculously low, but for £50 it's a gem of a course.

Had a simulator session today, was quite nice again getting those numbers but also using more clubs/trying different things without being the lesson. My 7 Iron was 'ok' really but mostly I wanted to check my Hybrid and Driver, for the Hybrid I think I improved a bit with a few tweaks and the Driver which was shocking last Friday was exactly what I expected, Out-to-In path and an open club face, may have improved it a bit but not overly confident really.

Afterwards I tried a bunch of new putters as I've been thinking of getting one. I dunno why but online I've been drawn to the Ping Anser series (I like blades) but trying them they just didn't feel right. A few of the Odyssey ones felt good, same with TaylorMade, but the standout had to be a Scotty Cameron blade which did feel really nice, but it was also £349 ('reduced' in a sale)

Also just booked Sundays golf and we're heading to a new course, Thornbury Golf Course, should be fun :)

Thornbury is a nice course, you'll enjoy there. Played it once in the summer and it was beautiful.

I have a scotty blade, love it and wouldn't change it for anything! Very pricey though.

Had my Scotty for 16 years now - Love it. Looks like brand new still. Incredible putter. Totally worth the money. It's an investment almost. Wife bought me it for my 30th...

However I can see how it can be fairly "unforgiving" if you are struggling with putter etc.

I'm not really struggling, if anything my putting is one of the better points of my game it feels. Last game was 1.9 putts per hole, which I'm happy with, one hole was a 3 putt and one was a 4, the rest were 2 or 1 putts so happy days.

I'm only really thinking about putter because my current one that I got with my cheap package set I left in the same 'pocket' as my 60 degree wedge but as I walked around my local course they bashed into each other and now the face of the putter is marked up/the paint is scraped off. It feels like it shouldn't work properly like that but like I said it seems to, or maybe I've learnt to adjust to it or something.

Just returned from Three Hammers after a very very good driver fitting.

After warming up I went into my driver to get some base numbers. Dispersion is what I was after as my miss is right and my driver spins up and spreads the ball far wide right.

Heads I tried with various shafts were:
Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond - Amazing Head. Dispersion was 20 yards right to left. Looks from address were just lovely. Tried 5 different shafts with this.
Callaway Paradym Standard - Not as good numbers here. We quickly moved on.
Ping G430 - Hit 4 shots and put it away. Reminds me of a 21 year old Halford designed Citroen Saxo. Just horrible to look at from address.
Stealth 2 + - WELL. This gave me the most fargiveness. Dispersion was off the scale. But distance was some 25 yards shorter. We couldn't work out why. Shame as it was arrow straight but I can't loose that many yards. Spin was high so probably the cause. Plus the shape for me was slightly off putting. It appears to bulge at the toe so I didn't like it visually.
Cobra Aerojet - We put in my shaft and played around with it but it still span up too much on miss hit shots. Distance was great and feel was lovely. Just need tighter dispersion.

Finally we went back to the Triple Diamond with an AV-Raw White X-Stiff. 9deg Driver +1 deg in Draw setting (to help close the face a little) and the numbers went off the scale. Club head speed went up by 0.9mph. Ball speed 152.4mph Distance av 268y rolling out to 286/290y.

The club felt so nice off the face and looks at address were just lovely.
As you may have guessed I've traded in and parted some hard earned cash and expect delivery around 24th Feb for the Triple Diamond.

Nice - was this on trackman?

Seems a massive amount of roll out? Getting 30 yards of rollout seems excessive ? Normally that means it's coming in very "flat" and running a lot. Caused by lack of spin to get ball airbourne/ launch angle etc.

Not picking holes or anything just a data geek when it comes to clubs etc! :D If it's good , it's good!

 spot the error. Carry 268y. Spin was between 2400 and a miss hit @ 3200. Yes all on trackman into a range

Launch was sweet. was such a lovely flight

Just out of interest given that you are looking for consistency and dispersion are you seeing any changes with trying shorter shafts? E.g. 44.5 inches Vs a stock length say 45.75?
