Golf Thread

They do this at West Midlands Golf Club. You book a two ball and they add on another two ball to make each tee time a 4 ball. Just to get the money in TBH as it makes play extremely slow and just not enjoyable.

Yeah, it's a bit meh, obviously we were being a bit awkward but even if you just wanted to play a two ball them adding two more randoms onto it both means playing with randoms which personally being introverted/anti-social would suck but also it's going to be a lot slower than expected... Not a fan at all :/

First round of the year on Saturday

Woeful, 94. Good news is that my foot is fully healed so hoping ti get back down from 14.5 I to singles figures over the next couple of seasons.

Everything was going low and I usually generate a lot of spin and have a high ball flight, so that was interesting. Trying to implement a better takeaway which gets my hands in front of the ball at impact, so that makes sense.

2months till the Scotland Golf trip, 4 rounds over 4 days might break me!

Where you playing?

Got a cracking deal at the weekend booked -

"prospective members day" at the Carrick Loch Lomond - Got along, pretend your interested in joining the club - £20 gets coffee/roll and 18 holes of golf!! Happy day. Zero interest in joining up but for £20 - I'll pretend my LTD company might be interested

Hoping to try and get up to Crail to take in both courses one day during the summer. I can get 50% off the green fees so would take it down to £92 for two rounds instead of the £184 so seems like a no brainer - only 45 minutes up the road from me as well.

After watching the Rick Shiels video I'd love to do Crail, can I be nosey and ask how you get 50% off? :p

Also does it work for other members of the group? If so OcUk Meetup?

My mum is a crime scene investigator with Police Scotland so I qualify for all the discounts as well. There's loads of golf discounts but majority of them would only benefit me with everyone else paying full price - we normally just add the cost up then split it evenly so we're all saving a bit of cash. The Crail one seems to be the best offer where everyone in the 4-ball gets it 50% off.

Also get money of a couple of the St Andrews courses.

Knew there were some benefits to living in Fife! :D

Yep :D

Crail is great played at Balcomie Links many times over the years. The newer course (Craighead) is a good track as well but it doesn't have the same character as the old links. Clubhouse and facilities are first class, they do very well with overseas visitors.

I usually try to play their open competition each year which is usually the first Saturday in August. Costs about £20-£25

Also get a cracking deal on the Kittocks and Torrance courses in St Andrews.

£160 for a 4-ball at either course when it's normally £130 per person. Crail courses one day then the two St Andrews ones another day! :D

Sounds good in theory, not sure I could do 2 rounds each on back to back days personally though :p

Great series showing the "grind" these lower player go through to get to PGA etc - literally running from event to event to try and qualify - Really good series

Booked a day off to join a couple of friends playing a course I've never played before.
Probably my worst ever game, mentally. Felt like walking off after the first 9... but then I didn't want to waste my annual leave, so stayed.

Basically, my driver was hooking BADLY off every tee.
My initial thoughts were, "it's fine, i'll adjust and fix it by the next couple of holes"

1st tee, ball OB, re-teed, next ball OB. *mini cry* - no score for this hole.
2nd tee, smashed one down the middle, fine.
3rd tee, hook is back. Managed to find it but was in no shape to get a decent score on this hole, so just played it and moved on.
4th - 9th, all massive hooks if I used driver.
Shot 55 on front 9.
Felt deflated, down and all the time I spent looking for balls, I was spending no time with my mates, so was pretty unpleasant.

Took 6i out for driving instead.
160-170i down the middle every drive. 2nd shot in (approach, just get it close), exactly the same distance and straight down the middle.
For holes I couldn't reach in 2, just got it close and chipped onto center of green.

Ended up with 5 bogeys and 4 pars on the back 9 (shooting 41).
Pretty night and day round and glad I didn't walk off! learned a lot from the experience.

I know the feeling... Well, of the driver playing up, not sure on hitting a 6 Iron 170 yards :p

If anyone is looking for some cheap brand balls American Golf are currently doing 3 for 2 on Wilson Duo+ & Optix.

Just picked up the former as was running low on the TaylorMade Distance+ I have been using up to now. Works out to £1.11 a ball. Will give them a spin tomorrow.
