can someone confirm this strange logic given by an employee at American Golf..

I was in about a week ago looking at "ex-demo" although mint, Mizuno JPX 921 Forged 5-PW priced at £559 which I thought was a decent deal, I asked a few questions on them, and he said, that if they dont sell over X amount of days, the price is likely to go up?

Surely if they are having trouble selling they would go DOWN in price? Am I missing something? Or was that just to get me to take a bite on them then and there?

Hoping to try and get up to Crail to take in both courses one day during the summer. I can get 50% off the green fees so would take it down to £92 for two rounds instead of the £184 so seems like a no brainer - only 45 minutes up the road from me as well.
Played it lots of times as a mate was a member for years. It was bizarre at times, if the wind doesn’t blow the old course is like a pitch and putt (about 2 times out of 20!), if it’s blowing it’s an absolute nightmare! :D

Lovely clubhouse and food was good too.

Sounds a bit like a sales pitch "buy now or it'll be more expensive next time", but I guess being generous maybe if they were trying to hit some sales targets they might reduce for a short period? Probably the former though

Yeah, thought as much, they are lovely irons, and the price seemed good, just thought, if they had been then for several weeks, price going up again? what?

Sounds like a classic sales tactic....

Aside from that stonking irons (my currents) - Love them, despite being a "better players" iron - they are super forgiving.

Still seems a little on the pricey side at £550 - Ebay prices seem more around £450 with the jpx 923 forged just out.

yeah, they are such nice looking , and feeling clubs, will keep an eye out on ebay / gumtree then.

Well that has to be the worst demonstration of golf ever seen on the south coast. Course was lovely but I could barely hit the ball and when I did I was losing them left right and centre. Good job I stocked up :p

Another Friday, another round of golf \o/ Did the 'hard' course at Woodlands, did play a couple of weeks ago but it was frozen so was nice to get a proper round in cause we don't play there all that often.

My PB score was a 124 last year, today was 114, pretty happy with that really, some really nice shots and of course lots of terrible ones :p

Got a 9 hole 'comp' (that I can't win...) tomorrow, be interesting to see how that goes...

So did the comp earlier, funnily enough I'm pretty sure I didn't score well enough to even be close to winning anyway :p wasn't that terrible but certainly not my best golf overall.

One thing that was interesting was that I usually cap to 8, nowadays it's not that often I go way over 8 but obviously being a comp/official score no caps in place, which was fine for the first 8 holes, had a few 8's (again, not my best golf ) but nothing higher.

Then on the 9th it kinda went downhill, off the tee I hit it left OB, been a while since I hit one left :p, so fine, 3 off the tee on a kinda awkward par 5, decent second drive though. Then I hit an iron right and towards some people near the tee for the 5th :/ shouted fore obviously and thankfully didn't hit them but into a hedge, didn't take a penalty as it was just about playable but not great and still took two to get back on the fairway. Next shot ok but my short game departed me so 3 'chips' onto the green, and a 1 putt... 11 shots total.

Felt overall like the mistakes I made generally hurt, as in sometimes you can make mistakes that 'work out ok', like my first tee shot was a hybrid that went a bit too far right. Hit a tree, got a members bounce and back in the middle of the fairway. But most of them today went for a loss of a shot one way or another, like a few feet shorter or left/right and it'd be fine but just happens to land in the worst spot possible, repeatedly

Still, 63 officially, tied for me worst score (but that was with capping to 8, and was terrible golf), 44 net for 9 over. Not too unhappy with that really, nice round of golf, some fresh air and exercise :)

Also, forgot to add it yesterday but on the last hole I hit driver off the deck, my drive was meh and was looking at the prospect of having to walk past the ball to the trolley to change clubs and walk back. The ball was on some long-ish grass so was semi-elevated and my playing partners convinced me to give it a try, probably for the lols :p It actually worked, sliced a bit and did end in a bunker but the contact was good if low on the face obviously so was a low flying shot, came out like it could've gone a decent distance though...

@booyaka

have you tried the jpx 919 forged at all mate?

im kinda working to a "budget" and torn between these, and the Wilson staff cb forged atm..

No - Haven't tried the 919, just 921 Forged.

I can't imagine there is a massive difference between the models in terms of feeling etc - just that the 919 will be around 4/5 years old now so whilst that's not a huge issue, I'd a have a small concern about the grooves/wear on the face etc.

Ebay seems to have £450/£500 a set for the 921 Forged depending on spec/shafts etc.

14 hole Stableford again yesterday +5 gross on a mix of full/winter greens. Delighted with that given I've got a stiff back and knee pain at the moment, finished 3rd on 33pts.

So that's 66pts from 28 holes, looking forward to getting some more practice in over the next few weeks

Yet another game today! Weird how much of a difference mindset makes, I went into today really not expecting much, the last few Sundays have been 10+ shots worse than the Friday for some reason and if any of that is phyiscal tiredness then playing even 9 yesterday won't have helped :p Ended up with 6 of us and I got in the chill group, e.g. not with the impatient guy, and then I probably made no friends by making the impatient guy go first

First shot, no real practice, 209 yard drive which is a new PB. Pared the first hole, bogied the second so good start and that put me a few shots ahead of the better player in the group (the other guy is new-ish and struggling a bit) and me and the other player then proceeded to stay close all the way through the round, he'd creep ahead and then I'd have a good hole and get a shot or two back, even on the 17th he gained 2 shots on me to go into the 18th with a 1 shot lead. I then made an utter mess of the 18th

I scored 108, he was 104 in the end. But it was just great to have a nice relaxed and competitive round, really enjoyed that :D

I found out what was causing my hooks. Now it's the battle to fix my muscle memory! :p

What I tend to do is:
  • I have a pretty closed clubface at club parallel, so need to get this square
  • I bow my wrist too much at the top, so flatten that wrist to open that clubface a little.
  • Keep my arms out more in front of me early in the backswing, as I have the tendency to bring the hands in low and across my lower chest, so keep them out in front of me more and I can come down a little steeper.
A couple of minor changes, but all adds up.

Hey guys, quick update, I ended up going back to what I know..

Before I moved house I was using W/S D7 Forged irons, and after I got back into golf I bought some Mizuno JPX 800 which are nice clubs, but miss the Forged "feel", so after some looking about at the 919 / 921 and W/S CB irons, i bought some tonight!

Went for the Wilson Staff D9 Forged, which when I seen today in American Golf sat real nice for me! I looked at the Wilson Staff CB irons, but omg! the head profile is insaley small! So I think I made the right choice going forward! :)

Will post some picks once I get them delivered, cant wait!!

I really should try more clubs, I have no idea what forged feels like, even though I think my new (cheap) wedges are forged :p

Do you guys just go to shops to try clubs occasionally, is that even something you can just turn up and do?

The only time I go to hit various clubs is when I am actively looking to replace something in my bag, so I don't do it very often, but it is very common in the US from what I read on a golf forum I spend time on

In terms of feel, a lot of people will tell you 'nothing feels like a Mizuno', but personally I prefer the feel of Srixon clubs over Mizuno having hit various options when I was fitted, with the harshest feeling clubs being Ping. Maybe that has changed a bit with the recent release, but I wasn't a fan of previous Ping clubs

If I had the chance, I would love to give the Cobra King RF Forged MB blades a try, but finding them at a place where they can be hit isn't easy

Not the same as Irons I know but when trying out random putters the other week I tried the Ping Anser blade(s) that I'd kinda had my eye on and they felt surprisingly harsh tbh, pretty much one of the worst feeling putters I tried...

In other news Netflix has put the first episode of Full Swing on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIEDa8swvgU It's unlisted so not sure if it's meant to be there/gonna be taken down but just watched it, looking forward to the rest of the series now :p
