Well guys..

still waiting for my D9 irons to arrive!

shipped by guess who, Evri :(

had a call from the seller, guy has been real good! Updated me on the situation, and most importantly said I can get a refund if need be, I will give it some time, as I would rather not refund as it’s a cracking deal I got!

so.. when I do get them (hopefully soon) I will update with some pictures! :)

Wet and windy outside so went to CC Golf in Glasgow today for a couple of hours.

Played Marco Simone course on the sim between 4 of us.... To be honest, course looks bang average for a Ryder Cup - Nothing particularly exciting about it....

Nice to be dry and at least get a swing of the clubs today.

Well..update, get strong fee a refund will be issued, still no movement from ******* evri!

I feel bad, as I have popped into my local American Golf a few times and had a gander at clubs..

what would you do get a fit at AG and pay the full whack? Or go elsewhere and save around £200~?

I would love to give the boy who I have spoke too several times the business, but £200nis a lot of money.

and I have asked about price match, but no they don’t do that route :(

personally I would get custom fit. That way you know they're right for you.
Remember you don't have to buy.

But if you do use AG, go to one with a driving range so you can visually see the ball flight etc

yeah, i see where your coming from, only problem is the nearest AG to me has no driving range, just the net :(

and the next is about an 70-75 mile trip!

Out playing again today, it was supposed to be the society 'semi-competitive' stableford game but after a kinda terrible game on Friday I decided to play with the usual group on the usual/familiar course instead...

Still didn't play great really, some nice shots but also hitting Irons/Wedges both heavy and thin, add onto that the chipping and putting game which is arguable a strength was just meh/bad, multiple 4 putts, not a great day. I did however finish well, I was going into the last hole knowing that if I did anything over par I'd be 120 or higher which I haven't actually scored so far this year on that course, but got a nice if a bit lucky drive (low on the face/low flight and *just* cleared the lake you had to drive over), then a perfect pitch onto the green left me with like a 4 foot birdie putt! Which I missed right by like half a centimetre, I even cleaned the ball, lined it up, took the flag out, tried to breath/relax, but nope :p Still, tapped it in for par and a 119, scraping my way to maintain that <120 for that course in 2023... Small goals.

Probably the one plus point, other than the last hole, is although my driver shots were a definite 'strong fade' if not a slice I just said sod it and started playing it, aiming way left and getting regularly into the fairway, not great but happy I played around one of my issues for now, just need to stop doing it now

On the other hand the weather was lovely, really nice to be out in it and who cares about the score :D

Forgot to add, the greenskeeper must've been in a terrible mood this morning, easily the hardest setup I've seen on that course, the yellow tees were pretty far back, basically next to where the whites would be (not been doing whites for a while oddly) and the pins were all evil, far back, tucked next to/on slopes, behind bunkers, just evil all around...

The weather was about the only good thing playing 12 holes earlier. Driving is killing me. Can hit it fine on the range but not on the tee box. Hit one good one out of nine! Think it may be a relaxation thing as on the range I'm not worried about where it goes so can relax.

I know your pain, driving has been a struggle for me for a while it seems, although at least mine is bad both on course and the range, I hear consistency is the key

update : well I spoke to the seller and going to give it until tomorrow to see how it pans out, if no further progress then I have asked for a refund. The seller has been great and I hate to do it, but he is insured anyway, so nobody loses really..

I do have my eyes on some Taylormade P770s, does anyone have any experience with them at all? Suitable for a mid handicap player?

I've hit the P770's before - personal opinion only here. Very long and fairly high flight for me, not the most forgiving irons in the world, and again, for me - felt a bit "springy" off the face, didn't have that lovely sweet feeling when you hit it well.

They were in X Stiff shafts mind you as well - But for me, look lovely behind the ball but didn't "do it" for me when I hit them.

Got 2 mates who play off 6 and 14 - both have the P790's. My mate off 6 hits them a mile and likes them a lot.

Rahm on an absolute tear at the moment - 93 under in his last 20 rounds of golf.

On that note...

What are peoples views on Tiger Woods' performance? Obviously I've not really followed much pro golf but funnily enough I knew who Tiger Woods was even before getting interested in golf so it was kinda interesting seeing him back and finding out more about his injuries etc.

Only watching the highlights and stuff on YT but seems like he did ok for someone with injuries that are clearly still troubling him (the leg/ankle specifically) and who hasn't played competitively for a while, but also not exactly setting the world on fire... Will he regain some form in time for the majors and put in some decent performances or will he be an one of those guys clinging on trying to recover their former glory but really just fading away, like Rossi in MotoGP...

Being fairly new to golf myself, the way I read the Tiger story without rose tinted glasses is, he was amazing at his time and was miles above everyone he used to play against and even now, he's still pulling off shots that the top 1% of golfers do.

Nowadays though, he's still a top-top quality golfer and even if you put the old Tiger in his shoes right now, he wouldn't be owning everyone on the course, he'd just be fighting for the top like he is now, maybe a little better - golf has moved on for several reasons, technology helps people learn, launch monitors, quality clubs, better coaching etc... But I still think he's playing really good golf, even with his injuries. The genesis invitational is at a super tricky course, so he can't just overpower the course like he used to and he's still got amazing irons. Really enjoyable to watch.
He's just one of those who likes to compete at the top level and always will, you could see he was loving life on the opening day, with who he was paired up with. I wouldn't say he was clinging on though, more like he's got nothing else to do, so why not play.

Would love to see more of him and I'm sure we will in the Masters this year.

Ahh Tiger....

Been there since day 1 with him - Grown up with him starting golf on the pro circuit and all the stuff inbetween etc...

Tiger is a once in a lifetime talent - Literally the best golfer I've ever seen (Nicklaus etc before my time) - He's done everything in the game, when he was on, he was untouchable. He scared the other players to death, he would literally win tournaments before people tee'd off as they just knew he was that good....

He fundamental changed the way professional golf is today - the money, the TV ratings etc - That was ALL him.

He's had his falls from grace - numbers affairs & mistresses, failed marriage, fused spine, car crashes whilst under the influence "allegedly" etc - Nearly died/leg amputated but he still has a burning desire to play golf on a competitive tour. He still wants to win. He said himself - he wouldn't play if he didn't believe he can still win.

He could have retired after the car crash - nothing to prove, billionaire status etc - But he just can't stop playing - he love the competitive nature of golf.

He's also appear to be way more comfortable being Tiger now, way more open to press/fans etc - Before he had this persona that he kept that he was untouchable - spoke as little as possible to press/fans etc. Now he's much more open/joking with other players and fans.

Just look at the video when he announced he was playing the Genesis - Other top world players hyped for him playing - they love having him in the field.

I think he's a bit different to say the "Rossi/MotoGP" thing - (another massive Rossi fan here) - Rossi could have retired but I don't think he had the same wealth etc that Tiger has....But Rossi's career did drag on a bit for sure

Tiger will show up at most of the Majors (Masters yes, Open yes) - PGA and US Open will depend on the course as he will struggle with the leg injury on very hilly courses.

All in all - Huge Tiger fan - love what he's done for the game of golf and some of the best most memorable moments in sports in my life time have been from something he has done. (both good and bad!!)

Yeah, the Rossi thing was about it dragging on a bit from a competitive standpoint...

I was actually all for Rossi continuing even if it was a bit odd to see but he was enjoying himself so why not keep riding/racing on the fastest motorbikes in the world, gotta imagine he'd be missing that now :p

With Tiger it was more a question of will he challenge for wins again, his weekend seemed a bit up and down, his good rounds were reasonably good (-2 and -4 iirc?) whilst his other rounds were a bit meh hence -1 overall, still damn good in the world of golf but not even close to challenging for the win.

I think I did read that he hadn't won there before so not really a course 'suited' to him?

And he was definitely hitting some great shots, was it his third round where he got pretty damn close to a hole in one on one of the par 3's? And obviously in the first round he outdrove Rory/JT something like 5 times?

But the Rossi put in the odd quick lap on the customer bike after leaving Yamaha but before retiring, didn't mean he was gonna win again...

^ You're aware that Rossi drives race cars for a living now? And very good he's proven to be for an AM driver.

As for Tiger I can't see him winning again. I know he had the surprise(?) win at the Masters in 2019 but there are too many good players around these days and after the accident I don't think he is physically capable of sustaining a challenge over four days. Maybe he should go and join LIV :p
