^ You're aware that Rossi drives race cars for a living now? And very good he's proven to be for an AM driver.

As for Tiger I can't see him winning again. I know he had the surprise(?) win at the Masters in 2019 but there are too many good players around these days and after the accident I don't think he is physically capable of sustaining a challenge over four days. Maybe he should go and join LIV :p

Yeah, but that's like Schumachers motorbike racing career, just a jolly cause why not :p

Wasn't it rumoured that he was offered $700m for LIV? But like you said, he doesn't exactly need the money

I've not watched Full Swing yet but my mate just sent me a photo that has us in the background when Cam Smith is finishing up on the 18th

Played my first round since before Christmas on Saturday and really annoyed we didn't score it as I definitely had my best round. Didn't bother as it was cold, windy, and drizzly so thought the game was a bogey before we started, more just wanted to get out for a swing. Course was still normal tees and full greens but I'd hazard a good guess that I broke 90 for the first time but have nothing to show for it :(

Finally getting to grips with my new iron swing as I was taking divots regularly which isn't like me. Had an absolute beauty on one hole. Tee'd off and it faded off to the right and ended up on the next fairway. Probably about 140 yards away from the pin with two or three massive trees in front of me so I decided to be the hero and go over with a 9 iron instead of just punching through. Took a beautiful divot, cleared the trees and stuck it about 8 foot away. It was the third hole and didn't care what happened the rest of the round, that made my day.

New Mizuno driver fitting event at my local Affordable Golf next week - fancied going but then seen it was £25 to book. Seems a bit "off" to charge. Titleist didn't charge me for driver event etc

I know they are spending their time doing it but surely to promote your brand, charging for a Demo day/fitting is a bit odd.

I understand local pro charging as people would take the **** out of them for fittings etc. But for a brand to charge seems odd

Well..just back from a modest length of a trip to collect theses bad boys. Great price, mint head (very little wear and minimal chatter), good shafts and grips too.

Was worried at first about the head size, but tbh, its not much more compact than my current JPX 800's..

It was after much deliberation and what @booyaka said on them, before I pulled the trigger, as I was informed by American Golf previously, that the P770's are slightly more forgiving than the JPX 921 Forged..

Cant wait to get stuck into them, and not that I will be using it much I think :p , came in 4-PW.

I really do love the 770/790 series clubs, they look amazing!
I feel like I should be swapping my sim2's for these bad boys at some point.
Anyone know if there's much of a feeling difference between them?

Cheers!

My usual playing partner has a set of the P790 and I did hit a shot with one of the irons. Obviously they didn't have my preferred shaft in them, but they didn't feel too bad overall

Enjoy them

hey guys,

went to the range today to hit my new P770s, I have not been at the range for probably 4-5 weeks...and man..did i hit them terrible!

I have booked a lesson tomorrow (60 minutes) so I know what to work on and see where im going wrong.

My question is though, if the pro does think that my shaft / length are in need of changing, what do I do? I was considering booking a custom fit (£30) in Aberdeen once I have more information with my lesson tomorrow..

The shafts I have on atm, I think personally are not suited for me (they are the S400 Tour shafts), and I was thinning the ball quite a lot, (im 6"2) and when fitted a few years back for my WS D7 irons, I was 1 inch longer over standard.

If I do need new shafts, can I sell on the S400's? Will the fitting center "trade them in" against new shafts (if needed)??

Also : The grips are Golf Pride Z grips, brand new basically too.

14 hole Wed medal today +1 gross on a mix of winter and full greens. 37pts, the march continues lol.

So that's 145pts in 60 holes from the last 4 medals, the folks are going to be screaming banditry of the highest order I reckon :)

New clubs take some time to "feel" right - I wouldn't go jumping into anything just now.

I'm 6ft3" and play 1/2inch longer and 2 degrees upright - but that's me. Everyone is different. Clubs can be bent upright/flat usually a couple of degrees so that would easy to "solve" -

Shafts - S300 is standard stiff, S400 is stiff but a touch heavier - nothing outrageous. Personally - Give it some time before considering changing anything.

Yeah - you can "pull" shafts and sell them but in reality - selling the set is way less hassle, than selling shafts, buying new shafts, cutting them to size, new grips etc etc.

See how you get on with a lesson - Don't over think the shots today - early days.

My 8 weekly check in lesson today.

Swinging well, changes in path are really starting to show - first ten swings/hits today averaged 2.2 degrees on the path. If you look back 18 months, I was around 10 degrees over the top so big changes and starting to feel like a "normal" swing - i.e I don't need to overthink it now as it's starting to become habit.

What that has done however is massively jump my distances up as I'm delivering the clubhead in a much better position at impact, rather than trying to square up the face with my wrists.

Data from trackman (hopefully get it sent over tomorrow) - 6 iron has jumped up to average nearly 190 total average (around 183-185 carry) from around 175 max from my gapping session last year.

I absolute pured one of them - 199 carry with 205 total for 6 iron!! haha - lovely 100ft height as well.

No major increase in ball speed/swing speed or anything just delivery of the clubhead to the ball.

Next step is to get a proper pre-shot routine. Pro thinks it will help greatly with my overall improvements so far - I sort of have one, but I don't do it all the time.

Main things - do my "checks"/feels in the practice swing, and then once I step into the ball, just go, don't over think it. Need to put something in place over next 4-6 weeks that I can find is repeatable and will then become standard for every shot.

Will add the data when I get a chance but very very positive again today. Lessons have been superb over last 18 - 20 months. Think I've maybe had 10 lessons now but fantastic stuff, very basic, but really helpful.

Over the last couple of weeks playing I've tried to work on a few things.

Mainly being slowing my back swing down as I found myself over extending and getting back into bad habits.
What I also tried yesterday was to have an 80% swing and not to try and hit each ball full pelt.
There were times when I went back to my old ways but majority it worked and I didn't seem to loose any distance. It's extremely difficult to do.

Another thing I've been working on is second shot. To have the mind set that if I hit a wayward tee shot not to be downhearted and to focus on the second shot.
At the end of the day I'm an amateur so not all things will go my way

Also on a side not I walked off with an 88. This included a par 4 (7) and a par 4 (8) so lost 7 shots on two holes.
To come in feeling disappointed with my round shows how far I've come with my game where as 2 years ago I'd be over the moon to score in the 80's.

100%

You (us amateur's) will make bad swings/bad shots - but it how you recover from that that will bring your scores down.

Was a great example of this a few weeks ago - Got a mate off 28 handicap, He's terrible for hitting a bad tee shot, but then compounding the bad tee shot by trying to murder a 3w or 4i out of 2 inch deep semi rough etc. Thus compounding the original shot again.

He played in a "5 club comp" about 3 weeks ago - you could only take 4 clubs and a putter - so he took 3w/7i/9i/sw and putter - cause he could only play his 7i out of the rough etc - he had less choices/less things to think about and shot 88 - 28 for net 60!! Less to go wrong.

Simplify the game as much as you can....

Yep learning/accepting to take your medicine and focusing on getting back into position after a setback is a key.

I think also assessing the risk/reward of a shot (in terms of hazards etc.) and playing for the percentage shot or laying up short of the trouble is also a key thing to keep the high scores away

Exactly.
At my course one par 5 at 535y but plays uphill for ¾. Hit a drive and leave 280y in. For me I break this down to two clubs. Simple 7i - 170y leaving a nice GW - 110y into the green to get it close. Why at 280y would I try and smash a 5w or hybrid where more could go wrong. Just play it simple

Good video about how to think around the course.
Videos / tips like that just seem like common sense to me, but it still surprises me how many people don't actually think about course management when they play

I can't count the number of times I have played with people who aim directly at flags and then miss the green, or finish in the rough because the fairway has a dogleg etc

Well…I done what I should have done in the first place and taken advice from the forum here..custom fit irons!

I popped into American golf yesterday, took my P770s and had a chat with the chap working there, he was super helpful.

my problem was not the head, but the shaft..I was told the shaft was Uber heavy, and almost in the region of what Rory M would use! Hence why I couldn’t hit them.

so, I now have some D9 forged irons, and some WS wedges on order, hopefully here 2-3 weeks.

only thing that bothered me at the fitting, was shanking the ball into the launch monitor and having a even more expensive day! ..luckily I didn’t!

soon as they arrive I will update, but man, them paired with a nice non range ball (AG used Titleist ProV 1 balls) is night and day for feel and ball flight.

nice - I did say the S400 was a "heavier" shaft but good to see a proper fitting has worked well for you. Doubt you'll loose much on reselling the P770's so no harm done.

Enjoy !!

Out this morning - Winter greens as frozen over night - just two of us.

Nice and quick 18 holes - hardly bothered with my putter - moved on quickly. 2hrs 20 minutes and done. Perfect. Striking the ball great and even in the cold, ball going miles longer with the changes from the lesson when struck well. Will need to get another gapping session probably! lol
