Just got back from a lunchtime 9 holes, do like that although I feel my afternoon isn't going to be all that productive

I dunno if I posted but I recently bought a new bag, a TaylorMade Quiver pencil bag, and decided alongside that to only take 4 clubs, the 3 Hybrid, 7 Iron, Pitching Wedge and Putter. It was quite nice to basically have no decision to make, and having a lighter bag was nice even if I'm not a massive fan of the straps really.

New putter seemed to work well, other than one hole which went horribly wrong somehow, and one or two where I just under-hit it on a long putt so need to just get used to that bit of it. Felt like I had confidence where the damage to my old putter kinda bothered me.

Overall a 54, not great at all but also better than a bunch of my more recent scores, and I wouldn't say I played well really.

Another game tomorrow, a proper 18 hole course, kinda tempted to use the same bag/carry/club selection, or maybe just add like 2, a proper wedge (56 probably) and the Driver but still leave the rest at home...

One bonus of only taking a few clubs to play is it forces you to learn how to hit different shots as you will often not have the exact club you want for the shot

Yeah, but at the same time there wasn't any pressure on it, not like it would if I intentially decided to try something 'weird' if that makes sense? I had a ~50 yard shot to make today, ordinarily that'd be 56 or 60-degree depending how I'm hitting it but the PW was the only choice so I just had to do it :p

Finally bit the bullet - joined my local club. 18 and 9 hole courses, trackman range, reciprocal use of other courses under the same umbrella (BGL?). £101 a month, happy with that. Aim for this year is to get myself an official handicap - also to keep away from playing summer hockey and ruining my back any more than it already is :o
Looks like a good course, nice to have a full par three course. If I'm looking at Google maps correctly the 2nd hole looks interesting, a double left dogleg?

But having no pressure on it and trying out those different types of shots can give you confidence to then hit those shots when it does matter

Hey guys,

just ordered a cracking deal on some Puma golf shoes. They are spiked, and would like to use them at the driving range, and I believe that the spikes (even though plastic) can badly wear the mats..

can I just game without the spikes? I mean there is still gripping on the bottom of the shoes..?

If they are removable I'd assume there would be some other gripping on the sole. I see folks wearing golf shoes at the range all the time but I personally wouldn't wear spiked shoes on a mat as I've jarred my knee previously due to too much grip/traction on my shoes

If I'm doing a long range/matt session I'll just wear trainers tbh, if I'm just doing 20-30 balls warmup before a round I'll use my spiked shoes, not had a problem so far...

Yep, you're right. You can cut off the first corner from the tee, then it's uphill to the green once you get around the first dogleg:

spikes??? in 2023??? lol

Couldn't tell you the last time I had spikes on golf shoes. Got UA and Puma (two pairs) and none of them have spikes on them. Wear them all year round without any issues.

Maybe where you live makes a difference, but I wouldn't wear spikeless shoes all year round - I have a few pairs of Puma shoes in a mixture of spiked and spikeless and they are the most comfortable brand of shoes I have worn

I've a pair of spiked shoes and wear them depending on what course I play. If during the winter is going to be a bit softer under foot then spiked all day.

Otherwise it's spikeless all year round. Can be used on the range too obviously.
Personally I wouldn't remove the spikes just for the range. Maybe you should invest in spikeless as the weather is improving and spiked shoes will be uncomfortable on the hard summer ground

Rahm on an absolute tear again at Bay Hill - over 7 shots gained on the field in just Rd 1. crazy stuff. He's relentless at the moment - bet he wishes it was the middle of the major season already!! haha

@TheCSSDoctor ahh nice, thanks for that!

Did you get a tool with yours??
No, but I had a couple lying around the house from always having spiked shoes anyway, and you can pick them up for next to nothing these days I would have thought - I can't remember ever getting a tool with a pair of shoes to be honest.....maybe you did in the long distant past, but certainly the last few pairs I have bought didn't include one

If you look at the spikes, you should see 2 small holes in the base of the spike which the tool sits in to loosen them off - always fun trying to replace worn spikes when they are full of dried mud or tiny bits of gravel :D
