Winner came in with 32 points.
My self unfortunately started well but imploded.

I scored 15 points on the front 9 only to then score 7 points on the back with 5 NR :(

4 holes on the bounce I didn't score and from then on confidence was shot and lost my game big time.

But all good experience. Head up and onto the next

Try this next time...

Instead of thinking of it as 18 holes or even 2 x 9 holes.... Break it down into 6 sets of 3 holes.... Have a complete mental reset after 3 holes ready for the next 3..... Give yourself a small target over those 3 holes depending on the par etc....

So for me - Our main course starts Par 5 / 5 / 3.... I always aim to come out of those 3 holes no more than +1 as I can get very close to both par 5's in 2....

Then next 3 holes are tough par 4's all 3 of them... So I generally say to myself nothing worse than two 5's and a 4.....

That way - whatever happened in the 3 holes I've just finished - They are forgotten about and I've moved on to the next 3 holes mentally. It saves you on the 5th hole thinking.... "that's the round over as I'm X over par" etc.....

Worked very well for me last year - I really worked hard on the mental side of my game

Highly recommend this book - Very very good. Be a Player: A Breakthrough Approach to Playing Better ON the Golf Course

I played my first competition under 80 at the weekend which is a big milestone for me. I've broke 80 twice through the winter (only 3 times in total) so it shows improvement. Took at 20ft putt on the last however to complete the feat. I'm currently sat on 16.0 but have consistantly played below it through winter but due to our winter course not being measured I havent been able to put some cards in. Hopefully I'll have a good go at some comps in the near future before my handicap comes down or I start playing worse.

nice - handicap should come down nicely if your around 80's off 16....

I'm happy with 80 and play off 8.7!!!

Watched a bit of the Dell Match play yesterday - felt a bit sorry for David Thompson (playing Cam Young)

Thompson was -2 front nine, found himself 5 down!!! Cam Young was out in 27!! (9 3's) - Thompson lost 3&2 in the end....He was -6 when he lost....

Yeah I saw a bit of that, sometimes it isnt your day. I like the Match play, its nice to have something a little different.

Anyone stayed/played/eaten at The Belfry before? Rents B'day coming up and I'm looking at booking us all a package thing for the weekend. Partners will use Spa whilst gents play Brabazon and PGA courses.

I lived at the Belfry for a long stint while working nearby. Food in the main restaurant is OK but overpriced naturally. Good breakfast.

You would be playing the way better of the three courses. Derby is very poor. Personally I liked the PGA better than the Brabazon but it helped to be paying very low prices to play (evening rates).

If you have transport there are nice gastropubs nearby. Maybe worth considering.

If you had a free fitting, would you check wedges (I have a mixture of Vokeys) or your driver (TS3). Irons are recent and they don't do putter fittings.

Driver - Wedges are generally wedges... You rarely swing wedges at full speed so they don't need much fitting in my eyes anyway...

New wedges are next on my list and will probably need to get fitted due to being 6'5. My irons are an inch longer so I'm assuming it'll probably be the same for wedges as well but wouldn't want to risk just ordering them! :D

Fitting is recommended for sure but he was asking if you could only fit one - I'd fit driver over wedges...

But as a freak at 6ft5" ( :p ) - Fitting sounds like a good idea for wedges!

I've been called worse! :D

Need to really sort out my gapping first. Got a rough idea for each club but I'm sitting just now with 12 clubs in the bag so might try and fill the gaps.

I want to get my son a Golf trolley that actually fits his bag. A lot of the adult sized ones I see, expect the golf bag to be quite tall, and his isn't as he has junior clubs. So in my one it doesn't fit and falls out. Can you get them where the height of the top clasp/grabber bit is adjustable? A quick look online and I can't believe how much trolleys are. I was expecting to be able to pick something decent up for under £50 that's light and compact.

have a nosy on facebook market place etc - see what's around.

Otherwise have a look for "Masters 1 Series 2 Wheel Golf Trolley" - Ive seen this advertise for "juniors" but it's not clear like you say about the sizing between the top and bottom "resting" points.

Went out for a game today, had been holding off committing because the forecast was rainy and windy but there was a free spot, woke up and the forecast was for no rain until 2 and the tee time was 10 so no probs and off I trundled to Bristol.

The forecast was a lie!

Mostly just showers but some pretty heavy really, not what I signed up for. The harder (and boggier, especially after the rain recently) of the courses at Woodlands, I hit 116 overall but that was 62 in the front 9  It started off great with a 199 yard drive (200 for me is good), bit to the right so 8i next but got it 114 yards so again decent for me, I think the other 60 shots were the problem :p

Really though I hit some good shots overall, some nice chips especially, just got into more trouble than I should've done too often, really irritating. Back 9 was pretty solid, 3 of my 4 bogies on the back 9.

Thinking of playing 9 tomorrow, and got a round booked Sunday morning... And on holiday next week so maybe lots more? :D

Got to agree. PGA is actually a joy to play and the Derby is like a local municipal. Never played the Brabazon but can't see you'll be disappointed.

Food/Prices within club house is a bit meh and OMG. Overpriced for what it is really IMO. But the whole experience is worth going for. But as Mike has said, venture out unless everyone is happy to stay on site.

So after the disappointment of Wednesday back out on the course today. one thing I changed was my driver. Wednesday I switched weights around to see how different it played. Have to say it's a different beast with the weights forward. So today I moved them back to how my fitting was. 2g at the front and 14g at the back for a little more forgiveness. I struck it beautifully.

Other than the 3 x double bogeys I finished with an 81. Played some lovely shots. Greens have been cut and rolled since Wednesday and were in fantastic condition.
It's a frustrating game

In contrast to SKILL I've been hammering the pitch & put this week now it's 'free' as part of my membership (it doesn't cost any credits).

Wednesday and today both windy which was an eye opener on how much you need to club up or down, at least with the wedges! Really enjoying my 52° :) Still need more work on the 56°, especially around the green :p
