Golf Thread

was at www.golfontrack.com yesterday for a free fitting and went with driver. before we really got started though we had a good chat about my game, my misses and unfortunately we quickly proved that my problems with my woods are not fixable with new kit.

My swing direction with woods is between 10-15 degrees in to out! Essentially I'm subconsciously aiming way out to the right to cope with my ridiculous hook. We tried a couple of stiff and x-stiff shafts to see if it was to do with lag but they didn't help. I don't do it with my irons weirdly enough. So I need access to cool toys like trackman to help work on this to sort out my face angle to let me aim straight. Will probably join golfontrack although it's 30 minutes drive from me and nearly a ton a month.

Launch monitors with clubhead tracking are really cool/useful, I've mentioned before really liking my lessons/simulator hire (same place and equipment) for showing those numbers and being really tempted by the Garmin Appraoch R10 (in fact probably gonna buy one this coming week, maybe, probably, need to convince myself with some man maths :p)

15 degrees in-to-out is huge, mine was basically the opposite being 15 degrees out-to-in, that with an open face was my slice... Had lessons/simulator sessions and in the last lesson a couple of weeks ago I was really happy to see that I'd effectively fixed it, no worse than ~2 degrees out-to-in with it regularly being slightly in-to-out, which according to my coach is 'better'...

So basically yeah, get some time with a launch monitor, it's great :D

yeah - Consider some lessons...

I've gone from around 10 degrees out to in, down to around 2/3 degrees now after some lessons over last 18 months, 100% worth spending time/money on lessons rather than new gear as that won't fix the underlying issue...

78 Today (off yellows par 69)

6 over through 6 (lost ball in the mud on 5th)

Then only +1 for next 8 holes....

Then tripled 15th after duffing 3 shots in a row in the wet ground....

Then birdied 17th, par 18th.

So with a triple and a double on the card - only 9 over.... Strange round...

Oh - and my shotscope for the first time had a complete "mare" - Came home and all my stats show every shot as putter for some reason... missing loads of shots etc....

Maybe it's a sign I need to upgrade it to the new one.... :p:p

@booyaka Or get a Garmin with 'proper' tags :p

Just got back from the Sunday round, matched my best on that course with a 106 but definitely a tale of two halves... Front 9 I scored 47! Been a goal of mine for a while to hit sub-50 over 9 so happy days, then it kinda fell apart scoring 59 on the back 9... Think it was a combination of that mindset being on a good round, tired from poor/lack of sleep and also wasn't feeling 100% so didn't eat anything till just now, could probably dig up another excuse or two if those aren't enough

Kinda wish I could stop Garmin telling popping up the score with a pause/resume/end round dialog after 9 holes. So yeah that's both suggesting and criticising Garmin in the same post, equality innit :p

Overall good though, especially that front 9 but even the back 9 bar a few silly errors everything was kinda on form, driving was good hitting 200 a few times and 215 on one, plenty of fairways found, irons were solid if a little wayward at times, chipping was goooooood and putting was on form all day, 2.0 putts per hole average \o/

Looking at the stats also 54% of fairways hit and 22% GIRs, happy days.

Just a shame I didn't combine hitting the sub-50 9-hole goal with the sub-100 overall goal, but getting there :)

New bag ready to go for tomorrow.

Had it in the loft for a few months - still muddy out there but why wait!

White towel in winter, oh you sweet summer child lol

Where'd you get the headcover for your driver from? I'm looking for something non-branded.

Not a proud one today at all. Walked off after 4...

Decided I'm not going back to a course until I can perform better of the tee. Bored of having nothing to fall back on and needing to save catastrophic tee shots just to tie a decent score together. I'd have broken 50 months ago if it weren't for this.

Back to lessons and the range until mid to late spring I think. Hopefully be in a better place by then.

Tough times - Leave driver at home - try 3w or even 5 iron for now - just for some confidence.

To be fair - shotscope has been excellent and spot on for last 18 months.. no issues with tags/watch.... Just today a total breakdown in communication somewhere between watch/tags etc

Just to be clear that was somewhat tongue in cheek :) I do like the Garmin ones and think they are technically better than the Shotscope but considering they cost more than the Shotscope incl tags they bloomin well should be

quick question guys, i had a Rapsodo MLM a few years back but sold it as it wasnt getting much use..

Now I really want to get my skills dialed in now, im considering getting the MLM again (not the revised 2.0 one).

Now I mentioned to @booyaka about a Garmin R10, but its double the price, so looking for something that is a little cheaper, and want to know what people who have used / got one think.

The price is so compelling now from HotGolf, and am really thinking of pulling the trigger, it will be solely used at the driving range, not in a garden net (which im sure dispersion still deosnt work anyways).

Cheers guys!

I've been semi considering an iron fitting for this season as it's been about 8 years since my last, coupled with a few swing changes in that period + a long term issue with my spine.

Spoiled for choice up here as we've got a Scottsdale golf opening soon, and I noticed there's also a Club Champion just opened.

Anyone heard any reports about Club Champion? I think they have a good reputation in the US

I wouldn't say there's any harm in going for a fitting and see what's what.

Also, is the Scottsdale Golf opening in Falkirk or nearby?

I changed my irons last year after an 8 year gap. So personally I highly recommend it. I got fitted by the Titleist Tour guys when they were holding a free fitting event at my local golf club.

With Scottsdale opening near by that will burn a hole in your pocket
I've got a fairway fitting with them at their performance and Build Centre on Thursday
