Golf Thread

Had a lovely afternoon playing yesterday. Weather was glorious here in Birmingham and actually had a bit of rollout on the fairways!

Shot 51 with the new clubs, my lowest score since about 14! 3 putted on the 8th and 9th which was beyond irritating considering I was 2 of breaking 50... still, a lovely afternoon in all. It really is the best place to be when the suns shining and you're playing decent.

Picked up the Galaxy watch 5 pro a few weeks ago and been using the golf pad app to track everything. Really impressed with it and it's definitely helped with my approach shots.

What's the watch like overall? I was looking at getting one as I can trade in my old one for some money off.

Fantastic overall I'd say. Been holding off on getting a smartwatch because generally speaking the battery life on all of them aside from the dedicated sports watches have been terrible, but I can easily gets 3 days out of GW5 Pro even with heavy use (tracking a 30 min run daily, heartrate sensor every 1 min, push notifications on for everything etc.). GPS tracking seems spot on as well even on the greens, though that may be more the app/phones coordination rather then the watches.

It helps if you have a Samsung smartphone naturally.

Just to note also that I tried Golf Buddy first (the app that Samsung officially pairs with for tracking golf) but found it woeful. Horrible interface and constant crashes with even worse GPS accuracy.

nothing but problems trying to avoid a lot of sag with my netting! :(

Went on Amazon and ordered some "durable" netting, and will be using one target instead of two.

Still not tried the Rapsodo yet! Desperate to do so...hopefully tomorrow at some time!

A friend of mine went to Precision Golf for an iron fitting last weekend and said it was fantastic. He'd booked in for a 2 hour slot but actually got closer to 3 as there was a cancellation.

Very tempted to just bite the bullet myself at some stage and get down there. Take a big chunk of change with me and just get everything sorted and brought in one go. My only concern is that my swing could change a fair bit as lessons progress. Might leave it until next year (or the NHS paydeal gets agreed and I get that 6% payout... ;))

Quick 9 before work this morning since weather is better, again... a little more roll-out, but a bit wayward off the tee. Not much time to warmup, going out at 7.45am.
Almost missed the ball off the first tee  but kept the scorecard neat, with only bogeys and pars. Playing my first comp here this weekend, so looking forward to that!

Scottie to win Master - just can't see past him....

Homa/Young/Day/Conners E/w (top 10 with paddy)
Young, Burns and Sung Jae Im, all e/w

During last night’s coverage of the Masters it was suggested a long hitter would benefit from the weather expected over the weekend.
Would like to see Rory wearing the green jacket but Scheffler has the right mindset to triumph again.

I backed Young,Scheffler,Rory,Homa. Rahms charge back was just insane, also commend Rory for doing live commentary to the viewers especially in a major it must be distracting.

That live commentary from Rory was awesome, taste of things to come I hope. Kudos to him for volunteering.

If conditions stay like this we are in for some treats this weekend.

Fitz tee shot on the twelth was a delight. Hope he does well this year, never not rooting for him. Kind of impossible to dislike.

Helps that he's got Foster on the bag. Still waiting for that guy to write a book. I'd recommend people listen to his episode on 'Beefs Golf Club' if they haven't already. Guys a legend with some incredible stories.

Fitz has really struggled lately since his big win. Hope he finds his feet again soon.

Played this morning, first round under my new membership. Sadly not a lot to write home about, the highlight was closing out with three consecutive bogeys :( :p

Unfortunately the driving range doesn't open until 9am and my tee time was 10 minutes past. They could do with some nets so at least you could get a few swings in to warm up. As it was I decided to be very selective with my use of the driver to try and stay out of trouble and not lose so many balls. Opening hole on the Tower course is a short par three. A slightly shaky swing but my 9i found the safety of the green, only to three put for bogey (to be far I was a fair distance from the pin). Second I played safe of the tee with my 6i and made bogey. The another par three this time over water. For the second round in a row I chunked by 7i into the drink! Came away with a seven. Forth I again played safe off the tee only to leek my tee shot right into a big bush. Thankfully I found my ball but had to take a drop, another seven.

Then the fifth, the yellow and white tees are set back behind a pond. I was weighing up whether to take my first drive of the round, kicking myself for deciding yes. Topped the first one into the pond, reloaded and it was like an action replay. Very annoyed at losing two balls in this fashion when I should have stuck to my game plan. Came away with a ten. Rest of the front nine bar the ninth wasn't too bad. Out in 56 which could have been 50 were it not for the three balls I lost into the water.

Back nine at least I didn't lose any more balls :) Hit a few terrible drives on the safest holes including another one which I topped. Puts you so much on the back foot when you can't get a decent tee shot away. Hopefully my on course lesson will reveal where I am going wrong. Came back in 57 for a 42 over par 113! Giving @SKILL some competition for the worst golfer on this thread :p Playing again on Sunday, hope springs eternal.
