Really glad to see Rahm win, not cause the whole LIV vs PGA thing but more just 'anyone but Brooks' :p Plus Rahm seems such a genuine/likeable guy in all the stuff I've seen :)

Great win from Rahm, Better ball 58 from Spieth and Mickleson today, disgustingly slow play from Cantlay. Another Masters in the books but still love it.

Watching with the wife last night and she commented about how did I know where the flags are etc - I told her it's Masters Sunday, pins are always in the same spot and having watched for probably 30 years, you get to know it.

Got to say Rahm was simply superb. Shame Brokes couldn't push a little more to make the fight a little closer. But I believe the pace of play didn't help. Even watching I was so frustrated at Cantley. Can't imagine trying to keep your head following him.

I have a question which has been bugging me for a while as someone new to golf. Why do people when talking about scores say things like:

"Yeah I shot a 76 which was ok"

Which means nothing to anyone. It would mean someone to someone if you know the course they were talking about and played golf there regularly and knew the par, but I hear people talking about any course they played on in the same way, to people that won't know what the par is. Why would you not say "I shot 3 over" instead?

I guess it's a fair point but also par doesn't really differ that much, it usually seems to be around 70/71, sure some are 72 or even 73 and then there's a couple I've played on that are 68, but it's not exactly a huge range... Certainly for me I don't really care too much where my score is in relation to the course par but that's cause I'm waaaaay over it no matter what :p

You'd also likely specify beforehand if the course where less then 68 as they're a bit of a rarity.

More to the point, I want to know the person who thinks shooting 76 on any course is simply 'OK'...

I don't understand. Are you saying 76 is bad or good? that was a made up statement just as an example, the number could have been anything.

Google does suggest a "regulation golf course" will have a par of 72, but of the courses I play locally one is 70. I can see two others are 72 though so is it actually more standard than I realised? I literally thought each course could be anything from like 60 to 80 depending.

I don't have the figures but feel fairly confident in saying that most courses in the UK will be 72's and anything less then 68 would be quite rare. You get the odd par 3 course here and there which is obvs 54.

Therefore a score of 76 as an amateur would put you in the bracket of golfer just below 'scratch' (a golfer who shoots to even par on almost every course and makes close to no mistakes). 76 therefore is indeed a very good score by definition. 'Breaking 75' is often a marker of success for most pro golfers so you'd be just outside that if you shot 76.

Most amateurs would likely never make that kind of score consistently in a life time. Breaking 80 alone takes a great deal of practice.

Yeah, this... To expand I believe the average UK golfer handicap (for men) is around 17? So for them a score of 89, on a par 72, is 'net par'... So 76 is pretty damn good to most golfers.

Well, the new net arrived today! :D

Man it is heavy duty thats for sure, managed to get it setup so it takes about 3 minutes to set up / take down...hit a few balls, happy!

Now just waiting on my new iPad to come on Thursday to use solely on the Rapsodo, which im DYING to try out!

I've thought of making a couple of videos of progress for myself, since I try to get out a couple of times a week before work (7am-9am).
I've chucked an edit together today, took about 1.5hrs to do and serves as a good tool to remind myself of things to work on!

Started well...!
Critics welcome. :)

I can already see a bunch of things that look terrible, but I won't change anything that's working consistently, since I feel like I'm playing my best golf at the moment! Although this video is just a mock together of todays practice.
On the weekend, I shot a 79 at my new club (par 68 in winter - 11 over) in my first comp - 42 points), didn't win anything though, came 10th out of 180 players.

I'm in no position to critique others, but aside from the poor choice of headgear I'd say to work on your balance and weight distribution/transfer.

You fell off a couple of shots which can cost your distance and accuracy, unless your Scottie anyway.

Appreciate the feedback, thanks!

For me, I find that because I've always tried to be ground-up/body driven, I tend to leave my arms go where my body tells it to go, as naturally as it can. This leads me to being a little 'floppy' looking :D which throws off my weight and causes me to almost fall over.
I've noticed this a few times recently, where I've started to move around more over the last couple of weeks, unsure why, as I've not changed anything too drastically as of late.

I really do need to get my arms back in the swing a bit by the looks of things, at least to be a bit more athletic with it all. I'll see what I can come up with for my next outing.

Nice work....

Only couple of things I would say is maybe widen your stance a touch/flex your knees a touch more, as you do appear to loose your balance a couple of times on the follow through as you can look a little "stiff" if that makes sense.

Relax a little more over the ball, some of your chips were very "stiff" - a little flex in the knees /relax the arms a little more.

Also you appeared to putt very well over all....however your head is up and following the ball almost before you've hit it. Try and stay down/stop your head following the ball/stroke a little bit more if that makes sense. So swing the putt though impact but keep looking down where the ball was for a little longer.

10th with 42 points - holy christ.... That's a tough crowd.... That's insane scoring.

Thanks dude!
At setup?
Are you talking about the irons or wedges?

My putting has come a long way, I do seem to follow the ball don't I :D I managed 32 puts over 18 last week, it's seems to be one of my most consistent stats at the moment. I'll see if we can get that down a touch with a more steady head!

I was the 3rd team out on the day, when I came in and entered the scores into the computer, I was top of the leaderboard for my division. The joys of playing early though, had to wait so long to find out the scores and disappointment

@MarkA I'm also another who's not really in a position to critique but I'd echo what others have said about balance/weight transfer on some of your shots. Wee bit wider stance and bend the knees a bit more.

I was the same until I got a lesson last year and my instructor gave me a set of things called Force Pedals - one under the right heel and the other under the left toe helped me work out the weight transfer.

Great score at the weekend!

Great idea that @Mark A ! Bloody decent score as well.

Me and lady friend are off to Hill Valley for the weekend. Got 36 booked in over two days whilst she enjoys the spa. Courses look decent and forecast for the moment looks good enough. Just hope I can do the trip justice!

I owned 2 of those force pedals awhile back, went for the 'mini' versions on amazon and found they were not very helpful at the time. I later returned them, since they were like £35 for 2 pieces of rubber that go under my feet!
I hear half a tennis ball can do something similar, so i'll get back on with that. Using the ground better has always been a fundamental of mine, looking forward to getting better at that!

Thanks for the comment!
