Golf Thread

I owned 2 of those force pedals awhile back, went for the 'mini' versions on amazon and found they were not very helpful at the time. I later returned them, since they were like £35 for 2 pieces of rubber that go under my feet!
I hear half a tennis ball can do something similar, so i'll get back on with that. Using the ground better has always been a fundamental of mine, looking forward to getting better at that!

Thanks for the comment!

Yeah, seen quite a few people using tennis balls! I only have them because my instructor gave me a brand new set for nothing (bit of a shock when I Googled how much they cost!) so if he never, I'd have probably went down the tennis ball route. It is a fair whack of cash for what they are.

Tempted to get another lesson for driving/hybrids - still absolutely hopeless at it but only slightly better than before I had my first lesson. Shot my best score at the weekend and never once used my driver or hybrids so could probably start bringing the score down further if I can ever wrap my head around it!

Just got in from a very windy (puting it mildly!) lesson. Was due to be a on course one but we rescheduled yesterday given the forecast. Just as well as even though the pro bay is enclosed on three sides at times the rain was blowing in sideways!

Despite the horrendous weather it was very productive and I got a great new drill to help me get onto the right position at the top of the back swing. Was absolutely flushing my 7i by the end of the session :)

Nice weekend lined up.

Portland on Saturday and Carrick at Loch Lomond on Sunday.

Portland is basically Royal Troon's 2nd course/sister course. Played Royal Troon loads but never Portland. Loch Lomond is a rescheduled one from March time - prospective "new members day" (will give them some guff about being interested via my Ltd company)

Only 11 minutes form the Loch Lomond distillery also... wrong thread I know but it really is one of my favorite Highland tipples.

Going to order a couple of shafts to demo from tourshafts next week.

Thinking the Fujikura Ventus TR Blue

Generally around 108mph for driver swing speed, so it looks like either 7-S or 6-X using this guide.

7-S looks more beneficial I think.

Might consider - Tour AD etc but there are so many to play with in that range, it's are a minefield - so many options.

Curious...
What are you looking to gain from a new shaft? Dispersion I'd assume?

yeah - dispersion, a bit more "feel" - Stock aldilia shaft is not bad in my G425 but I don't have much "feedback" from it - It's a bit numb.....

Had a previous KBS shaft that I tried in my old g425 max - Loved it - felt great, knew where I was in swing on the way down but it was way too high launching but felt nice in terms of feel etc.

3 days demo of shafts for £30 with pre-paid returns and whatever adapter you need from Tourshafts.com - Great comms/messenger chat with the guy yesterday.

Just finished the most recent Rick Shiels pod where he talks about playing Augusta. Regardless of what you might think of him his enthusiasm was infectious. Even days after it's like a kid at Christmas.

Well, the new net arrived today! :D

Man it is heavy duty thats for sure, managed to get it setup so it takes about 3 minutes to set up / take down...hit a few balls, happy!

Now just waiting on my new iPad to come on Thursday to use solely on the Rapsodo, which im DYING to try out!

I've thought about getting a setup in our garden but I'm paranoid of the net failing or getting some rebound or ricochet that will break something. We have full width bi folds across our entire back and a cabin with glass in the windows/doors to the left.

I saw an old timer on the course the other day with my lad, and he seemed very wise and experienced. He said "If you get a chance, try to hit some balls, every day. Every day." :)

Went down our local tracer equipped range yesterday with my son. For a small 13 year old he hits really well. He's hits consistently straight. He even taught me how to draw and fade! Whilst I can't really fade at all with any control, I understand how I personally can make it draw now which is cool.
I got the driver out and hit some balls and I'm peaking at 274 yards with ball speed of 156mph. I didn't clock the club speed or any other stats. I'm so amateur and very inconsistent, but with that bass yardage, I feel like with some lessons I could get to 300. Is that a bit optimistic? I literally play with hand me down clubs from my brother and barely play at the moment. With my irons, I tend to thin them a lot so I think I have more of a natural driver swing than an iron swing. I'm 6ft2, skinny and over the hill. :)

274 with a driver in any direction is nothing to scoff at mate, especially for an amateur. Amazing that your lad can already fade and draw at 13!

Forget 300 yards...

Amateur's love to claim they hit it 300+ etc - Probably about 5% do.

274 is more than my last two year averages and I play off 8. I'm around 265/270 average - obviously a bit more in summer with run etc - but don't chase 300.... Zero point other than "willy waving"

I shelled out a little more for this netting than standard, it’s called "archery" netting, and it really is heavy duty.

dont worry about rebounds or such, the balls drop dead against this net..

I have everything I need now, I have charged and uplated my MLM2 Pro, so will update with my complete setup tomorrow, assuming the weather is decent. :(

But I like waving my dong booyaka. It's massive and obviously bigger than yours judging by your average drives. I play golf purely to be alpha around the course with my fellow golf chums.
;)

I know it's just a number but I was basing it purely off of the fact I'm a beginner and wondered if it was worth trying to add 20 yards. I think most people can add 10-20 yards judging by a few youtube vids I've seen where they get someone good to have a quick look at their swing.

You can add speed but it's a lot of work, doesn't just come easy.

With more speed comes more issues.... harder on the body, more to go wrong in the swing etc - honestly - if your hitting 270+ already - I would look at other area's to improve and spend time there rather than trying to eekkk out another 10/15 yards.

Just my opinion mind you

I know your right. It's the attraction of the 300 number which is meaningless as to one's ability to play good golf frankly. I should focus on being able to hit irons consistently. Which I can't. lol

Do what you love, since golf is a fun tool for most and not taken super seriously.
If you just want to go out and have fun, definitely learn how to hit your driver better.
Learn how to hit up on the ball, take spin off and learn how to get faster.

Not all of getting faster is speed training etc, it's learning how to use the body properly to propel your club faster.
For me, if I want to go max out, I add in a squat into to my downswing and this catapults my arms, but it's uncontrollable and it's very inconsistent for me, so I stay away from it on the course.
Learning these things can be fun and can help you reach these big numbers. Some of them transfer over to irons, so not all is lost.

If you do want to lower your scores massively though, do what booyaka mentions and methodically work through your irons/wedges/putting.

Funny you should mention this.
Look what's just arrived today for my Paradym.
