Looking at getting some waterproof trousers , don’t want to spend over £50 if possible because I’m looking to get some waterproof shoes too. Anyone have any suggestions? I went to the local American Golf store, but they didn’t have a lot of choices and the cheapest were £60

I got the Stromberg Weather Tech trousers on sale earlier this year but I'd have no problems spending the full £60 on them - I find them great. Keep me bone dry and cool at the same time.

well, I had my fitting yesterday for my driving iron..there was a slight change of plan.

it's now a D9 forged head (like my 5-GW), but a 4 iron with a graphite shaft and going to be bent slightly stronger for a bit more penetration. Plus it becomes multi purpose to use off the fairway swell as off the tee (which was my primary target).

The best bit..saved £40 against the driving iron. I was real happy, not just to save the money, but that American Golf were fitting me, for ME. Not to pocket some extra cash which they could easily have done!

Out again last night and although I didn't break 90, played some more brilliant golf by my standards.

Didn't shy away from driver this time as I'm adamant that I'll get it working and a very good decision - didn't lose a single ball off the tee with 13 swings of it. Luckily, the two I did slice a bit landed on opposite fairways but not that far onto them with good lines back in. Hopefully it'll stay that way! Even managed to break the 300-yard mark with one.

Par'd 5 of the holes with 3 on the trot, one of them I was over the moon with as it's definitely my kryptonite hole on that course.

Had an 8 on a par 5 - 4 of them being absolutely awful putts, and a 7 on a par 4 after landing on what should definitely been GUR. Both completely avoidable but meh, it happened and there's nothing I can do about it.

Finished with 94 (previous best was 103) so 22 over but I could have probably taken at least 5 shots off that if I was consistent. Think it's time to get another lesson with my irons to (hopefully!) tighten my game up more!

no such thing as "waterproof" shoes... They may claim to be waterproof but in soaking wet/rain conditions any shoe will get wet. Just get a good brand/shoe that fits like Footjoy/UA etc

I've got these - 1st class - highly recommended.

Got an extremely rare fortnight off and going to spend as much time as possible on the course.

We 'fixed' my transition on Monday and been hitting some bombs at the range the past few days. Turns out my hip clearance was no where near exaggerated enough and it was costing me about 20/30 yards in my long irons and creating a vicious duck hook on bad shots.

Got a 3 hour short game session tonight and my teachers taking me to visit one of the people responsible for PGA certification next Wednesday at the Belfry, supposedly a friend of his. Think he's quite conscious of the fact that my game still has some ways to go before we think about applying, so in the mean time wants to do as much as possible to keep my interest up. He's a good soul. Doing most of this for free as well.

Back from Friday Golf, with holidays I've not played or practiced in just under 2 weeks so wasn't sure what to expect, it went pretty well I'd say :)

Scored 105, best on that course is 103 so nothing spectacular but reasonably solid. Actually started out great but a couple of horrid holes messed that up, front nine was a 55 in the end but the back 9 was solid at 50, par'd the last hole for the first time. Par 5, pretty long with 'two lakes' (really one but two bits 'stick out' into the fairway if that makes sense) got the green in 3 and two putt for just a regulation par, all good. My first putt was damn good though, way away from the hole at maybe 25-30ft and just line and pace was really good so got it within 1ft, got a gimme but putted it anyway to get that par 'properly'.

In fact generally my chipping and putting was solid today, really nice when that works. Even early on some simple straight putts just felt good where you see the ball rolling end over end and it just drops in the centre of the cup, simply things and all that :p

Got another game booked tomorrow, weather looks, well, rainy and a yellow warning for wind so yeah... Could potentially do the weekly club comp, stableford but given others will have done it mid-week on easier tees/pins and without the weather warnings I might not bother...

Playing on a course tomorrow I haven’t played before Duxberry GC, in Chorley. With the weather forecast to be very wet I had no choice but to get a pair of trousers and shoes, spent far more than intended. It’s going to be a slog tomorrow :(

How was it?

I was out earlier and it was actually ok for the most part, some rain but mostly light and fairly long periods of dry and even sun, better than I'd hoped. I say mostly because on the 16th hole it absolutely poured it down

I wasn't sure but decided to do the club comp after playing well yesterday, Saturday tees + weather didn't make it particularly easy and frankly I didn't play as well as yesterday so meh, not gonna win :p

Did hit some nice shots though, in particular were two drives, got to the 12th tee and faced with a rather healthy headwind so decided to break out the 'white' tees (I use the graduated tees, normally pink which is 57mm but got some whites which are 51mm, shouldn't make a difference but seems to...) With the white tees I generally seem to leak right/slice a bit more but it does go lower so used it and I think because I was so aware of needing to close the clubface I hit a really good strike. It 'only' went 198 yards but into that wind it wasn't bad at all, honestly feel like if there was no/less wind and the ground was dryer like it was before all this rain that would've flown way over 200 and run probably up to the green/300+ mark, it felt so good.

Then on the 13th I did similar, slightly different angle but still mostly into the same headwind and again a great strike that went 208 yards this time.

Did you play Duxberry? It is a nice course, one I will play again.

Our tee time wasn’t until 2pm, so we missed the worst of the weather, light rain fell periodically, but we did get hit by a heavy shower about the 11th.

As for the golf, I was as inconsistent as in previous round. On a plus I used my 3 wood wherever possible with mixed results.
Because we were unfamiliar with the course we made a big mistake on a hole on the back nine, played to the wrong flag, and therefore didn’t score, then my app decided to play up on the 17th, so I didn’t score on the last 2 holes.

If anyone is looking to buy a pair of golf shoes, the Skechers I purchased were extremely comfortable and kept my feet dry throughout, definitely recommended them.

Amazing how much my clubs courses have greened up with all the recent rain. Fairways have gone from burnt out and firm as concrete to green and softer underfoot. Greens are now more receptive, nice to have my 7i hold a couple instead of running through and off the back :p

Even managed a new PB on the longest hole across the two courses. 600 yards with water lining both sides of the fairway from around 250 yards up to 20 yards or so short of the green. Hit an not so great drive which finished on a slope up by the ladies tees which are much further forward. Then hit a very nice 3w gripping down the shaft. Followed up with a tactical 9i and then 7i onto the front edge of the green. Two putted for a six!

Nah, not Duxberry, down south at Woodlands just north of Bristol. Just you mentioned you were out as well today :)

Comfort wise I'm also really happy with Skechers, I didn't get the same model but a cheaper one as my first set of shoes and they are definitely comfortable. Unfortunately I've had issues with 'quality', basically the liner inside the back/heel area gets unstitched or ripped open on that model, had it happen initially and the shop replaced them free of charge but the replacements are doing it a bit already which is a shame. Not gonna bother trying yet another replacement, and they're still usable so yeah. Possibly worth looking for but hopefully just an issue with the cheaper models :p

Out today - Shouldn't have bothered.

Hit it all over the place, dreadful golf. At least sun was shining.... NR'd on 18th - Think I would have been about 87 or something.

Need to find practice time - literally had none for months.

At the moment in the long game I'm playing some solid/consistent, yet unspectacular stuff, it's going well.

The short game and putting is quite erratic at the moment, for example yesterday I had a few brilliant mixed shots off the green which were basically tap ins to save par, and then a few chips and pitches that I didn't get within 25ft and a couple of daft 3 putts.

I want a solid/consistent and unspectacular short game lol

I think I'll get some practice in when the kids go back to school and hopefully it'll lead to a decent finish to the season

I went round our local with my son and his mate the other day. We did a 3 man scramble. I started off thinking I wouldn't enjoy it as much as keeping my own score, but I think the whole round was actually quite enjoyable as it took the pressure off knowing 1 in 3 of us will always have a decent shot usually. We played tactically in attack vs safe and went round level par. Usual handicaps are 9, 24 and 28 (me). Shows how much your score comes down when you scramble. It probably did help that I actually played some of my best golf ever and actually probably would have gone round in about +20 myself as a single. But anyway, an enjoyable day finishing just before the rain came.

I've noticed something about my wood shots. If I setup to fade/slice, I can almost always repeat that shot fairly reliably. Obviously I lose distance. If I setup to hit straight, probably about half of my drives hook left. I just need to find a sweet middle ground.

The thing that I majorly improved on which I am really happy about, is my irons. 5 and below I still find very hard, but everything else was flying nice. I dropped a couple of approach shots right in next to the hole. I would say we used my approach shots on roughly half of the holes. :)

I was kinda the opposite when I did a scramble, but maybe that's the people, I played with a mate, his uncle and a random.

I thought I'd love it, my golf is very variable from 'great' shots to shanking it OB :p But I basically found that I wasn't 'invested' in the result because it wasn't 'my score', sounds really selfish and I guess it is but hey :D

Never EVER after a good shot, especially when your playing partners compliment you, tell them what the secret is to doing that shot. The next time you have to do a similar shot, the golfing Gods WILL make you look stupid.

Today on a par 5 after a good drive and approach, I played a lovely 30yd wedge for an easy tap-in birdie. On the very next hole (par 3), similar shot, skulled over the green, then duffed the next one, then again skulled over the green. Gave up after five - FIVE - chips.

yeah its a cruel beast golf.

im having trouble with my launch monitor atm, so im a bit ****** off, im hoping its just a replacement or something needed, as im getting terrible, terrible numbers from it.

Played at my local 9 holes earlier, and also played same course yesterday, two quite different days really :p

Yesterday my mate who's a bit weird wanted to come along for a walk, which is fine, he has no interest in playing golf but hey. First tee the group ahead waves me through, it was a two ball and I was in no rush so ignored them but then they just hung around and waved again, I had no interest in playing through but kinda had no choice, made an utter hash of that hole and kinda bled into the next. Kinda got better afterwards and hit some really nice chips and putts but was just generally meh after that start.

Today there's a two ball in a buggy ahead of me at the first tee, they ask if I want to go first but I say I'm happy chilling and in no rush so off they go and I follow them around all 9, much happier doing that tbh, waited a bit occasionally but all good. Still not a spectacular first hole but it's kind of a tough par 5 so that's fine, sliced the drive on the 2nd tee but made a good recovery and then just kinda settled in nicely. Came so close to a birdie on the par 3 7th, on the green off the tee with maybe a 15ft putt which ended just an inch to the left of the hole, pace was absolutely perfect. Par'd the 8th as well.

57 yesterday, 50 today, bit of a difference, almost a shot a hole :p
