Golf Thread

@booyaka you dont happen to use Awesome Golf with the R10 do you by any chance?

I ask because, I contacted AG customer service, and they told me, once I get my new launch monitor (R10) to install the AG app, log on then get in touch and they would transfer the licence from the Rapsodo MLM2 over to the new one..

Now, I have done this, and connected my R10 to my iPhone and iPad (not running the software on both at the same time obviously) and it seems to load into the app fine, and when I go into settings it says lifetime licence and has a tick next to it??

Should I still contact AG and find out more? Or just "use it" and see how I get on?

Think I used a "free" trial once... 7 days or something - don't use it otherwise. Sorry

Popped into my local AG yesterday to see if they'd put out there ex demo stock yet. Very limited so far but it's out there so might be worth a check if you've got one near by.

Nearly walked out with a set of snakebite wedges but thankfully the partner had me see sense...

yeah, those SB wedges do look good, and at £79 each, a tempting price!

Courses remain closed. Looking at the rainfall figures for October it's no surprise, over double the monthly average where I am!

yeah, same here, i popped up to my local course for the range, all shut up, no cars, no pro.

Hopefully be open over the weekend but I wouldn't bet on it! :(

Aye, same with my local. Been trying to ring and book a tee time all week for Monday, no answer, no message and nothing on site stating it's closed. Pretty poor showing really.

to be fair to my course, you do usually get e-mail updates on all the goings on at the club, from the course to social etc..

Yeah, that is poor in this day and age, my local is closed and got an email but they've also updated their facebook page/feed (which is also on the website home page) to say it's closed.

The course north of Bristol is open though, they seem to stay open no matter the rain/mud for good or bad... Only seen it closed when everything froze over at the end of last year, even then I played once when the lakes were all frozen (but greens 'ok') which made things interesting :p

Went out and played today, weather was decent with it just starting to rain at the end. Shot 99, really tried my best to throw away the sub-100 but was just too damn solid in the first 14 holes

Annoyingly on the 15th it's a fairly long par 3, pin at the back, into wind, I hit my 5w and absolutely flushed it with a slight draw and it found a clump of trees never to be seen again. On the one hand it's 3 off the tee, on the other it was a really lovely 5w on any other hole :p

Just being able to play right now would be good :p last week and a half a combination of health (stupid bug/cough), weather and an annoyingly selfish/impatient **** meant I've only played once :( My local course is closed because of flooding and with a forecast of (and currently) constant rain that's not changing for a bit yet...

But anyway, some lofty goals for when I can actually play:
  1. Practice more, get some 1-on-1 lessons, improve consistency more than any distance/speed targets
  2. Break 90 (current best of 112, was gonna put 100 here but hey, got a year, how hard can it be...)
  3. Try new golf courses, both local (Celtic Manor, Bowood House, Cumberwell Park to name but 3) but also further afield, maybe one or more mini-roadtrips or even abroad

Comps is a good one, may do that as well, although I kinda am by joining a society (first game on the 22nd) which is kinda competitive, it'll be my first time playing Stableford as well.

Also seeing @booyaka going over his I thought I'd dig through and find my early year goals...

  1. Pretty happy with, feel like I've got a good relationship with a coach for 1-on-1 stuff, and a bit more goal-based practicing rather than just hitting balls. Could probably do more practice though.
  2. Not yet!? Best is the 94 last Friday, yet to actually beat 46 over 9, so not looking all that close but at the same time it feels like the game is trending nicely. Got a trip to Marrakech for golf in early December that is probably my best hope.
  3. Done a bunch of new courses, Bowood is still on the to-do list, as is further afield really
Also done a fair few comps, and just entered the Winter Greensomes Knockout at my local so good times :)

Not been on the course since the start of October because of the weather on the east coast up here. Been that bad that my local range had to close because they couldn't get the wee tractor out to collect the balls. Can't remember a day when it hasn't rained.

Hopefully it'll dry up a bit for Friday. Few of us are off work so going to see if we can get onto one of the St Andrews courses.

On Seafield course today - shorter course. Good nick for this time of the year.

Another 71 gross - 6 for 65. (Par 68) - Solid golf again. 2 birdies, 5 bogies, 11 pars.

Driver is still out of the world good for me - Hoping this lasts into next year :D :D - So long and high and straight - game changer for me.

yeah, weather here is Aberdeen today has been real nice.

I went up to the range today,, hit 80 balls, hit some crackers considering I haven't played in 4-5 months!

im hoping the weather stays fair tomorrow, and try and get out to my net, I still haven't had a chance to use the R10, the weather has been crazy for a while now over the UK!

Booked a lesson for 10am Monday, just to see if I can get some consistency together.

So yesterday I decided to actually wash my shoes, felt for a bit as winter came in that my feet had been getting more wet than they should do, turns out the outer waterproof bit had split on the inside of both toe boxes, so that'll do it... Skechers quality is so bad.

I bought the first pair about a year ago but then after ~4 months got them replaced as the inside of the heel had split, the heel had split again but I'd decided to just keep them until they died but as they failed in a new way I took them back to the shop and they agreed to give me credit. Got some Adidas mid-boot ones for an extra £15, feel reasonably decent so far.

On that note, out for a round today, decided to carry as the weather was good and I kinda like it oddly :p

Not a great round, very 'hot and cold', scored 103 overall and quite disappointed after 2 sub-100's in a row  Had some solid holes but 2 pickups and a 9 doesn't help the score.

I did achieve one thing though, over the many rounds I'd par'd (or better) all but the 12th hole. Par 4, SI 2, not overly complicated but a horrible green, evil slopes that can lead to way too many putts. But today I hit a lovely drive (in general today my driving was a solid A- :p), hybrid to pin-high but just off the left of the green, bit of a weak chip left me with ~4 ft with a healthy break on it but read it nicely and hit a good putt and it just fell in via the side door :D

Garmin now says my ideal round is a 64, par 70, 6 birdies. Now I just need to execute and hit a new PB by 30 shots

Got to the driving range yesterday, first time I'd swung a club in three weeks. Absolute dross, as if everything I'd improved during the summer had vanished. In better news at least on of the courses has 14 holes open today, of course more bad weather forecast from Wednesday onwards so no doubt it will be closed again by the weekend :p

Managed to get out over the weekend a couple of times, and considering the weather in the southwest, the courses played extremely well! Very strong winds on the cliff edge, playing directly into it was...interesting!

This is the first outing I've had where I've felt that I've able to put my lessons properly into practice, and it is the most I've enjoyed rounds in a long time. Score isn't any better yet, but I need to relearn all my club lengths - What used to be a duffed 6 iron is now a good 9 iron/pitching wedge. Led to some pretty embarrassing misses, but I've never been so delighted at being heartbroken.

Always struggled with getting height driving the ball, so tried a couple of adjustments to that too, setting up a lot further behind the ball than I ever did before, and again, huge improvement.

Typical that the enjoyment is at it's highest once the available light is at its worst!
