For the lols I just checked, seems the top 3 golfers in the world all use different balls :p

Scheffler uses the ProV1
Schauffele uses the Chrome Tour
Mcilroy uses the TP5x

indeed - all different but when you take a larger sample size.... it's pretty staggering....

Brand # of Tour Players
Titleist 95
Srixon 8
Callaway 8
TaylorMade 8

Dashed out after work, shot a new PB of 38 (+4) on the front nine of the Tower. The ball lives on! That's two full rounds plus a couple of half rounds. Holding up well bar the sap now on it after I flirted with the trees on the 2nd :p

I’ve tried a lot of different balls and I hate to say it but ProV1’s never let me down and do everything well. AVX being my actual favourite as I generate a lot of spin. Because of that, high spinning balls like a ProV1x and other competing models are a big no for me.

Last comp of the season this weekend aside from some Turkey Trot fun ones.
Playing the best I can atm. Just need to remember to take my time, plan and execute 72 perfect shots. ;)

You get used to feel, don't let your brain be the limiting factor. If you're results are better with certain balls, then go with them, be openminded.

Had an e-mail from the club this morning advising winter rules (lift and place) would be in effect from the 1st October. Seems a bit premature to me as fairways were fine when I was out on Tuesday, anyone else?

I agree :-)

I did try a bit ago to compare a few different balls in a sim with a GCQuad and tbh my variance was way way higher than any variance between balls so impossible to really tell. Saying that it was probably a year ago or more and my ball striking/consistency has changed drastically... On a tangent I was thinking I should get back in there for a proper gapping, I've gained like ~25 yards per club over the last few months it seems!

Sounds a bit premature yeah, I played yesterday and today and no real mud balls tbh. Worst was today but that was after a bunker shot, otherwise nothing to mention/note.

Been absolutely hammering it down here for the last 4 days. Ball has stopped running on the fairways, buried in green, so I hope they change our rule soon.

On that note...

So yesterday played in a fun little comp at my local, 9-hole 'one club challenge. Not something I've really heard of elsewhere but teams of 4 (randomly assigned) where player 1 has to use a 'wood' (hybrid allowed apparently), players 2 and 3 can choose whatever and player 4 has to be a putter. From there it's alternate shot, simples.

Does mean if player 3 holes out on one hole then player 4 tees off on the next with the putter, which did happen to us on the 8th :p

I took an 8 iron and slotted in as player 2, thought that'd be good with the par 3 lengths but I didn't actually do a single tee shot, and only did ~4 'full shots' so it was mostly chips/putts or like 90 yard partial shots. Was good fun though.

Today I played the 'new' (about a year old now) White course at Cumberwell Park followed by the par 3, we're going there with the society the weekend after next and wanted to get some practice in having never played it. Really quite a nice course, some trees still need to develop but nice layout, tricky at places but rewarding and found it quite fun. Par 3 was decent too, nice variety of holes from ~90 yards up to ~160.

Scored a 79 (again!) but obviously with the par 3 that was +17 gross, still decent, kinda feels like bogey golf should be my aim still but realised after it won't count for my handicap (score differential of 22.5, worst counting score is a 20.8 it seems) so I guess I need to adjust my view on the scoring :p

Moar golf today, although a bit of an adventure :p

So had the usual place in north Bristol booked but with the rain they decided to close but one of the group found a tee time for Thornbury that could work so we got that and I headed out. Got a message on the way that the M5 was closed because of flooding, I don't go on the M5 though so fine right? Wrong... Should've taken about 1 hour ended up almost 2 hours!

Course was dead when I turned up though cause the traffic was so crazy I think a lot of people were very late so my mates managed to stay back letting groups through until I got there, I rushed to get everything ready and run up to the tee to get started so it was 'only' ~20 minutes later than we should've tee'd off.

That first hole was a bit crazy though, rush to get started, top the tee shot, lose my phone out of my trolley and thanks to my Garmin watch it told me and gave me directions back to where it thought it was and I did find it but just a lot going on! Ended up with a double bogey for my trouble.

Rest of the front 9 was really solid though, ended up +5 through 9. Unfortunately the back 9 was a fair bit worse, still not terrible at all but no pars and 4 doubles. Total was an 89 (+18) but being a harder/'proper' course I think it'll count so happy days.

Then did the roll-up on the way home, some good, some bad, got 15 points with two pickups so meh, could've been decent.

27 holes is a lot of walking though, feet hurt :p

Got a bunch more golf to come too... 9 holes tomorrow and 18 both Sunday and Monday

Great news, my ball lives on :D Despite a few ropey swings it stayed faithful to the end. It even cleaned up in the early holes with the morning dew helping to remove the tree sap I'd inflicted on it the last round. There may be the faintest of nicks on one of the dimples but otherwise its in excellent condition still. Giving it a close once over I've just noticed that a few of the dimples have letters embossed on them, don't know what that is all about

As for the golf like the weather it took a while for the my game to warm up. Started off with three doubles, largely thanks to some wayward putting and an unlucky lie after my tee shot at the 3d (in the fairway but right on the lip of a bunker). Ended up going out in 50 (12 pts) but coming back in 41 (19pts). Highlights of the round came on the last two holes. A lovely birdie on 17 where after a poor tee shot, my one bad shot with my 7w all round, I stiffed the pin with my second (6i). And then with my approach into 18 from 85y with my third shot to make par. It left me middle of the leader board today, 39 pts looks like the wining score from someone playing off 4 so a very good round gross.

Couldn't have felt better practicing, but as per usual, comp pressure, teeing off into the sun at 8am and to many swing thought ruin any chance I had. Walked off after 9. Had other thing do and was at my HC by the 8th.

Day 5 of 6 completed :p

Todays game was definitely a bit meh. Overall it was 92 (on the course I shot 79 last Friday...).

Irons were decent, chipping was ok, drivers/woods were pretty bad and putting was either amazing or terribad. Like 4-putt bad. But also 2 really tricky greens/putts done in 1.

Kinda trying to take the positives out of it really, I did hit some lovely shots (including those 2 putts!). And it's kinda nice to have a 'bad day' like that, almost, it's a score that not that long ago I would've been happy with but now is a bad day at the office.

Also need to accept that I'll always have off days and I kept my mental state pretty good throughout, even playing with someone that regularly annoys me I could generally keep my head in a good place.

Tommorow it's an away day at Dunstable Downs, bit of a trek but should be good :)

My brave ball called it quits at the 4th today :( Approach shot landed on the backside of the bunker front left of the green and it must have bounced left into the ditch and bushes separating the hole from the 16th of the other course.

Of course its replacement quickly got lost a few holes later :p. Leaked a 7w short right of the 10th green in some light rough, really surprised I couldn't find it but I guess all the leaves that are now on the ground didn't help in picking it out. One to forget today.
