I play with Titleist 695 blades at the moment and I think they are awesome but if you aint hitting dead centre they can be tough to score with.... but the there is no bigger grin factor in golf than striping a pure 3 iron blade

The main thing to weigh up when deciding to play blades or cavity backs is how much you want to move the ball through the air. Blades are much easier to shape the ball with but as a result they are more difficult to hit arrow straight shots

Got my first lesson tomorrow at a World of Golf range. I decided to take Golf up recently, been to the range a few times and played a couple of rounds with friends and to be blunt, I suck!

*** are offering a free course of 6 beginner lessons (group) which is a pretty good deal I think, proper PGA Teaching Professional too. Got to pay for range balls but hardly the end of the world.

Features of our Beginners Golf Course include:

Six weekly lessons, one hour long, learning golf with one of our PGA Qualified Instructors.
A step-by-step guide to the basics of golf from the grip to the full swing, using a variety of clubs.
Learning the basics of golf rules and etiquette as well as the different techniques in completing a course.
A round of golf at a local golf course to put your new skills to the test.
Free loan of 7 Iron
Rules of golf booklet and information pack

Price = Free! Click here to book!
(not including the cost of range balls).

That's a fantastic deal  Good luck for tomorrow, I think everybody who's first taking up the wonderful game should have a set of lessons. The problem that a lot of people have is they play for years and inevitably getting into lots of bad habits, then when they finally decide to have a few lessons the Pro ends up changing their entire swing and everything feels totally alien. Best to ingrain the right swing, stance, grip etc etc from the start. :)

Yeah that's my thinking, they also do a "Fairway" card which is £20 but for that you get a free 7 iron, a £20 voucher against the intermediate lessons (group of 4, six sessions, video analysis etc etc) which makes the cost of the intermediate lessons £40 and 50% extra cash when you top up your range card (use to pay for range balls). Can't see where they are going to make their money tbh if they are giving away a free 7 iron even if it's naff?

I'm assuming you are going to the one in Clydebank Windle? It's very good there, best range around in my opinion!

Yeah it's an impressive setup. Was impressed by the lesson today, he spent about 20 mins going over grip and stance then the rest was taking shots with the 7 iron whilst he walked up and down helping folk. There was 8 in the group but he spent a reasonable enough time with everyone.

He's fixed my grip as I wasn't doing it quite right and helped me work on my stance which really helped. I'm quite tall and always feel like I'm bending over too much and can feel the strain in my back so he helped me get a better stance which was more comfortable, made quite a big difference to my accuracy and swing straight away.

I couldnt agree more. This is with out doubt very good advice...

It amazes me when I see players week in and week out struggling with their game yet refuse to spend the £20/£25 pound for a lesson with PGA Pro.

I have to laugh when they stand there with the latest £250 driver and £600 irons only to play like complete muppets :)

Had a great weekend on the course this weekend. My handicap has slipped throughout this summer up to 4.7 (Playing 5). However on Saturday I managed to shoot 73 on my par 72 and come in with 40 points. Then on Sunday we had our final Major comp of the year and I shot Gross 76 net 71 and won both the Scratch and Handicap comps.

I have practised pretty hard recently and it kinda proves to much playing and not enough practise is not good for your game.

Were they board comps? Well done on the scores though especially the 73.

What do you mean board comps?

But Saturdays was a social knock. (If there is no comp on at the club the we through the balls and play team games for fun)

Sunday was a club comp. 1 of of our 4 major comps for the year

Our golf club away day on Friday there @ Strathaven Golf Club - cracking course, great condition, superb club house and good food.

Golf was interesting to say the least. In the morning it's a full handicapp stableford. I unleashed the new TM Superfast Burner 2.0 on the first tee and proceeded to hit 2 balls OB miles right!:eek: Not the best start and didn't get any better!!:(

First 6 holes - 4 points:(

I was ready for calling the pro up and getting back my old G15:eek:

Anyway next 6 holes, 5 par's and a birdie for 17 points!:)

Last 6 holes, 3 par's 3 bogies for 12 points and 33 in total which was enough to win it (only 13 people playing)

Must have been about 10000 to 1 to win it standing on the 7th tee!:D:D

Also won the texas scramble in the afternoon as well:D

One thing with the Superfast Driver is i found that i needed to swing a bit slower with it (despite having a stiff shaft) and it goes well with a slower swing, maybe a bit more control as well.

I do like it because when you get one out the middle of the face it goes for miles!

Nice Comeback :)

The Driver is 1 inch longer than most thats why its goes so far if you want the control back what you had with your previous driver choke down an inch untill you get used to it

Lol, yep, all the gear no idea! See those sort more or less every week at our club :D

On another note I've just been fiddling around with the options on my SkyCaddie home page and it's quite amazing what stats you can keep track of  Here are my stats since the 12th of May this year (32 scores). Lots of things to work on at the range over the Winter.

I have probably the busiest period of golf coming up in the next couple of months that I've had all year. It starts this Sunday with the monthly medal then a Greensomes the following Sunday followed by a 2 ball better ball the week after that. As soon as that's all out of the way the Winter league starts! I can't wait, have been playing some good golf recently, I only hope it continues.

Meh, i take a differnt view on this. Just because they arent of a brilliant standard means they cant buy decent gear? Is decent gear only the province of the 'elite', going by that standard most people should be driving around in crappy cars as only Lewis Hamilton should be driving supercars, Matt Neal driving sporty/quick saloon cars etc. At the end of the day if they want to spend their hard earned on new clubs let them, it makes them happy! (plus it fills the 2nd hand bins with nearly new drivers/irons that aren't "suited to their swing" or rather their crappy swing isnt suited to them despite being told countless times to spend money on lessons rather than new clubs!! :D)
