Good point about the drivers head size compared to tiny irons. I've recently gone to a bigger cavity backed iron after years with blades (Mizzy MP33 to MX200) and I'm just starting to dial the 200s in now. While they may not be quite as satisfying to hit as the 33s it's not half as bad when you don't quite get hold of it. For example, hit a slight toe with the 200s and it will still go maybe 90% as well as a middled shot, try that with the 33s and you're talking more like 50-60%.

Like you say there's hardly any tour players using blades anymore, so if they think it's fine to play with cavity backs then that's more than good enough for me!

MP33 oooooohhhh 1 of the sexiest irons ever made they will be remembered as a true classic

Oh dont get me wrong.... I dont begrudge anybody having what ever golf gear they want. The point I was trying to make is that many people are happy to spend countless amounts of money on equipment to improve thier game but completely refuse to go and have a lesson with a pro.

After all a good golf swing will work with almost any golf club but....no golf club can fix a terrible swing

The old adage that the dog wags the tail not the tail wagging the dog :)

I like having decent clubs and everything, but I always remember when I had one of my first few lessons when the pro would pick up my club (a kids sized club, a good 3+ inches shorter than the norm) and he pinged the steal generic driver 200 yards straight down the range no problem.

:)

The guy i have lessons off brings out his old persimon 1 wood and an old 80's blade iron when teaching osme of the finer points, really makes you concentrate but it's sooo irritating when he fires a drive off with the 1 wood further than you can hit with a new fangled driver!! :D

Off to Troon tomorrow for rounds on the Darley and Fullarton. Should be a good day!

I have played there and they are superb course for Municiples.

Darley is great fun however I would recommend you play Lock Green instead of Fullerton if you have the opportunity to switch. Fullerton is in the middle of Lock Green and plays very much like Pitch and Put course

just for the record

Lochgreen is the correct spelling!:p:p

And I hope it's drier than it was today!!

Just got back from a weekend at Bowood Park in Cornwall, 2 nights, 3rounds, £150.
Very nice course, great food, nice rooms all in all a very nice setup, highly recommend it.
Shot 23 first round followed by 38 and 38 !! Lost the overall by 6 points :(

Great finish to the fed ex cup last night.

Well done to Bill Haas for winning the lot! Tour Championship and Fed Ex cup. Deserved it after the shot @ 17th in the play off.

Shot of the year?? Will be hard to beat!!

Not long back from Troon. We managed to get all 3 courses played today! Darley was fantastic, Lochgreen was good, it was nice to pass by Royal Troon as well, and I quite liked Fullarton, its short and numerous par 3's were different and good practice.

3 Courses in 1 day..... where you running in between shots :P
