I play with Titleist 695 blades at the moment and I think they are awesome but if you aint hitting dead centre they can be tough to score with.... but the there is no bigger grin factor in golf than striping a pure 3 iron blade
The main thing to weigh up when deciding to play blades or cavity backs is how much you want to move the ball through the air. Blades are much easier to shape the ball with but as a result they are more difficult to hit arrow straight shots

Good luck for tomorrow, I think everybody who's first taking up the wonderful game should have a set of lessons. The problem that a lot of people have is they play for years and inevitably getting into lots of bad habits, then when they finally decide to have a few lessons the Pro ends up changing their entire swing and everything feels totally alien. Best to ingrain the right swing, stance, grip etc etc from the start.
