I decided to go the route of clubs and lessons, the missus said she would give me half towards what ever clubs i got as long as they wasn't silly money and that would leave plenty for me for lessons, managed to grab a set of 3-9 + sw & pw wilson big red II fat shaft for £56 +9 delivery seemed like an absolute bargain, in great condition and the reviews were nothing but great and stated ideal for high handicappers. i blame the obscure 10.30 finishing time on the low price.

I did do some research and i have bought the clubs now but does any one else have some thoughts on them?

There ok clubs, 1 of my mates used to have a set and they where pretty solid. The main reservation of buying these now is that they havent made these for quite a while so if any clubs need any kind of repair you will be stumped

Yeh i get what you mean, for there price though i wouldn't be totally disappointed if i had to replace one or two clubs in the not to distant future with singles form the bay, they seems in great condition and well looked after so im hoping they have a couple of years life in them and maybe if my game improves drasticly with the lessons ill get the other half to grab me a decent modern set for my birthday next year.

Time to buy a stand bag for the winter I guess. Was playing at the weekend and the ground was really heavy, made using my usual bag and trolley a nightmare.

TThinking I should get a carry bag and play with a half set for the next few months I think.

I have 1 of these push trolleys by Sun Mountain and can highly recommend it. Its very very easy to push even on soft ground.

I've got the ClicGear push cart, again, it's easy to push over soft ground. Main problem is that a lot of courses around here have trolley bans from mid-november until early feb. I'd be looking for a very light carry bag, empty it completely of everything but clubs/balls/tee's and then make a judgement call over whether i need to take waterproofs or not on the day.

Man up and carry all the time :p.

I have the Sun Mountain H2NO carry bag, it's pretty darn good!! (trollys are for girls :p;))

Trolleys aint just for girls I use my Trolley when I take my tour bag out or when it looks like it might rain. This way I can be prepared for every situation as I can carry a tonnes of water when its hot or lots of clothes when its wet and cold.

That being said I do like to carry and I have the same H2NO bag which I agree is pretty decent. I do however dislike the legs on mine as they always tangle up when I put the bag down.

The other option is to play with half a set of clubs you will be surprised how much lighter the bag feels with half of them gone :)

If I am dashing out for a quick 9 or 18 I will quite often just take a 3 wood and all of the odd or even irons and a putter. This also helps improve my skill levels because I have to play lots of varied shots for example if I a need a 7 iron I can either hit an 8 iron with a draw or the 6 iron with a fade to get my bog standard 7 iron distance.

Get a Cart or Carry your bag and save your back/improve your golf

Its a win win situation :)

I use half a set for probably the majority of my golf, alternating between odds and evens. I play lots of nine holes after work in the Summer and find my Mizuno Twister stand bag ideal for this. Having said that for comps at the weekends I use a full set with my cart bag and Trooper electric trolley, apparently using an electric trolley can shave a couple of shots off of your game and I'm all for saving shots! :D

Titleist Reverse Cart Bag
Titleist 909D3 Driver (Aldila Stiff shaft)
Titleist 909F3 15-degree Fairway (Aldila Stiff shaft)
Titleist 909H 21-degree Hybrid (Aldila Stiff shaft)
Callaway Big Bertha 1-iron
Mizuno MP-52 Irons 3-PW
Vokey 52-degree Oil-Can wedge
Odyysey DualForce Rossie II

Ironically, I just replaced my Mizuno bag with a Titleist bag and then replaced my Titleist 962s with the Mizuno irons.

Got the irons (used) from a pro in East London for £225 and they are beautifully consistent.

Played with them for the first time yesterday at the Woldingham in Surrey and shot my handicap despite having at least 5 3-putts! In every case my first putts were lacking in any kind of touch, caused by simple lack of play.
