Applied :D

Anyone else having trouble with the application form ?
When i open the word doc it's all gobbledygook :(

Played in the 2nd round of a Matchplay comp at the weekend, my partner had a back operation and was unable to play, so it was 1 v 2 !!
Format was a random draw for partners, low handicap and high handicap, i'm the high playing off of 18, the comp itself was 3/4 hcaps and we were playing with 18 temps !!
I was one up from the 2nd until 9th, missing a chance to go 2 up on the 7th, i lost the 9th (par5) putting my 2nd shot (3wood) under the trees on the right, was always struggling from there as the low hcapper i was playing against was down the middle all the way and we all getting shots.
Kept it 1 down until the 14th (S.I. 1) which the low hcapper birdied in spectacular fashion, so 2 down, the high hcapper birdied 15 too !!
So 3 down with 3 to play i was thinking Fosters and dry roasted or plain peanuts ? :) On to 16 a 165yd par 3, one went long the other rightish, i hit a nice 6 iron slightly shortish, chipped and putted for par, they fluffed putts so i'm now 2 down with 2 to play.
The 17th is a long par 4, i smacked a drive straight down the middle and long, next a rescue to 6 foot and putted in for a very rare birdie on that hole, 1 down with 1 to play !!!
18th probably the hardest hole on the course, although the SI doesn't say that. Hit a drive slightly to the right, just in the second cut, next a 3 wood which i pushed way right (worse shot of the day, i think nerves got the better of me), pitching wedge from a horrible lie, chipped up but it hit a soft bit and stopped really quick, so i was left with a ten footer to take us down the first.
Putted it, bang on line and stopped literally ONE INCH from the cup
Lost on the 18th -- Gutted.
Worked out i went round in something like 81, which is one of my best rounds ever !!
boohoo lol

I went for the titliest 910 d2 9.5 ahina shaft stiff
its keeping my drives a bit lower which is better for me

Also just bought a john letters 60 wedge forged
possibly one of my best buys ever cracking top notch club and jes giving me real confidence around the greens

Nothing new (yet) - new bag to be ordered shortly.

Superfast 2.0 is almost new as i only got it at the end of last year and played with it twice!
Got room for another club - likely to be either a 20 degree hybrid or maybe another wedge between my 52 and 60.

How's everyones bag looking?

Nothing new really, apart from a silly driver head cover that replaces the original worn out Callaway FT5 one. Haven't changed anything for a while now, I'm probably the happiest I've ever been with a set of clubs.

Ok so here is my bag for 2012. In the spoiler section there is a more in depth look at my gear for anyone interested :)

  • TaylorMade R11 driver with Mitsubishi Rayon Fubuki Stiff (real not OEM), 9 degree loft, open face
  • TaylorMade RBZ 3 wood with Mitsubishi Diamana Blueboard Stiff (again, real not OEM)
  • TaylorMade R11 Rescue 4 hybrid, Matrix Ozik Altus Stiff.
  • Titleist 503H 22 degree hybrid/driving iron.
  • Ping G20 irons 4-W, green dot: 1/2" long, 2 degrees flat, reg flex.
  • Titleist Vokey Oil Can Wedges: 48, 52, 56, 60 degrees.
  • Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2.5 or TeI3 putters.
  • Nike VR Pro Limited Edition Tour Bag

I dont carry everything at all times, but this is what I would consider to be my set, I might drop the 4 or 6 iron, 60 degree wedge or driving iron depending on the course and conditions.

:)

My R11, absolutely love the shaft, it has made such a difference to ym accuracy and power off the tee, even the stock stiff options were quite whippy. It looks killer too! :D

My metals, I think I might add a new 2 hybrid to my lineup next week as I feel I am missing something in between 3 wood and 4 hybrid. I didnt really buy into all the RBZ hype initially, but oh my...this thing is actually a rocket. The Titleist hybrid I picked up for £20 in the bargain bin! Apparently Rory used one during last years Open. I must admit I dont really use it a lot but its relatively long off the tee and easy to control.

Love my G20 irons, very long and very forgiving they really get the ball up on a nice flight path. Tempted by either i20's or AP2's as my next set mind, always looking forward!

And everyone needs a good set of wedges, this is where the scores really come from. Cant really say enough about the Vokeys from Titleist, absolutely fantastic bit of kit. If you are really looking to improve your scores then you want to be carrying at least 3 wedges.

And finally I have 2 Scotty Cameron putters, both relatively classic blade putters, I have tried broom handles, belly's, and all the crazy mallets ones...give me a good old blade any day.

My shoes, love the Adidas ones, Adipures have to be my favorite.

Thanks for reading and have a good season!

Entered thanks for the heads up.

New stuff in the bag, apart from the R11 Driver and new Burner 2.0 irons, the only other thing is a TM Rossa Lambeau putter second hand off a mate, not used yet though.

Guys, seriously considering a 1 iron to chuck in the bag as an alternative to my driver at times. Any ideas where to find a decent one?

you'll struggle now to find 1 irons - get yourself a 16 or 17 degree hybrid - much more forgiving - you can use it much better from rough and they are great.

I used to love my 1 iron but since hybrids/rescue clubs appeared they are not really used.

Thanks for the tip. I really like hitting irons, hence why I was considering the 1 iron, but a hybrid may well be better all round as you say. Any particular brand to go for or are they all much of a muchness?
